The Engagement (Open)

Name: Gracie
Age: 25
Brown hair, Green eyes
5'7 Slender/Fit

OoC:
In her younger years, Gracie had been a rebellious beauty. She'd been a rough and tumbler, until she met Marcus. She knew she couldn't live the high life forever, so she decided to settle down. After a year, he proposed, and she accepted. Marcus and his family was wealthy and conservative, and Gracie had to change everything about her just so his family would accept her. He was boring, but he was safe. He provided her with security. She convinced herself that she would learn to love him. But he had no sense of pride - his father ridiculed him and his fiance without regard and Marcus said nothing. The sex was boring and she hadn't orgasmed yet. Gracie longed for her old life of whiskey, guitars, leather jackets, and motorcycles. This longing desire is what made her vulnerable.

Her soon to-be mother-in-law had gotten her a job at a law firm. She had some experience and a little bit of college behind her, making her a good legal aid. She felt like she was more of an office clerk than anything else.

One day a gentleman came in wearing a pair of faded jeans and carrying a leather jacket - a rare occurence where she worked. She guessed his age at around 28 or 29. She saw him walk into her boss' office. After about 15 minutes he left with a smile on his face. She asked someone who he was and what business he had there. Apparently his grandfather was some kind of millionaire and had given every single dime to him. The firm was handling the paperwork. He was tall, dark, handsome, and intriguing, and found herself hoping he would come in again - soon.

When I kept my appointment at the attorney's office I came up to ther receptionst's desk and announced my arrival. While she called my lawyer I was seated looking at her and quite imporeessed with her manner and appearance, and thought how nice it would be if she were with me for a few billable hours as they referred to it in a lasw firm

Our meeting went well and everything was going smoothly, so I left andf agaiin looked at her as I exited but she was involkved talking wityh another clerk in the office and I didnbt get an opportunity to talk to her.

But, she had my name, so as soon as I got outside the office I called on my cell phone and she answered "Dewey Cheatem and Howe. Gracie speaking. How may I help you?"

I told her I had forgotten something and needed to come right back.

When I again approached her I saw a diamond on her ring finger, but no wedding band so I asked if she was free for lunch.

Marcus slowly stirred the fruit yogurt as he went over the new proposal. He stopped ever so often to catch the glasses slipping down the short bridge of his nose. Reading over numbered sheets and faxes and proposals had taken a toll on him. Without his glasses he only saw shapes and blurred figures.

His assistant Melinda came in, smiling warmly as she dropped the mail onto his desk. She was a pleasent girl, barely out of her teens, with a slim and slender body. He'd hired her on the spot, because her resume looked incredible.

His eyes never even trailed her long stockinged legs as she left his office, instead he checked the final numbers, crunching them over in his head. He didn't like the looks of this at all, they would need to have a meeting over the new financial stability.

He made a note of it on his new ledger. What a wonderful new ledger, organized and curved. His fiance had boughten it for him. She knew how frazzled he got during tax season. He had everything in here, names and dates and appointments.

He paused, smiling at the golden lettering of his name at the front, before eating another spoonful of yogurt.

She smiled softly but avoided his eyes. She collected the packet he had requested with haste, stapled it, and handed it to him.

"There you are, Mr. Durham." She said. She specifically used her left hand to show that she was otherwise spoken for. Usually men would catch on to that kind of thing, but she had been forced to use it a couple of times.

"And I'm sorry, but I have to refuse that invitation. My fiance is expecting me and I'll be leaving in a few minutes."

Honestly, she hated the truth. She didn't want to go and listen to Marcus ramble about figures and numbers. She wanted to accept his invitation. But she knew she couldn't. Before she would've jumped at the chance to date such a gorgeous man - what with his dark black hair and blue eyes, and especially now that he'd inherited such large sums of money. But that was the old Gracie.
