Throughout all of human history, the extinction of the human species, as well as some others as an indirect result from that cataclysm, has never been as possible in any other century than it is now in the 21st century. Given the chaotic state of today's world, I doubt mankind will make it to the 22nd century.
Although I'm sure that many Thousands species of animal, insect, and marine life will.
In my opinion, this is very likely to be caused by a pandemic super-bug, or biological weapon blamed on a "natural" mutation of pre-existing viruses, released intentionally by the shadow government as a means of greatly reducing the world's population to bring about the new world order. It won't cause extinction of the species. So it isn't "the end" per se.
