...I want it! What is it that makes those stories that receive the prestigious "H" Emblem so special?

All I can figure is a combination of solid plot elements, lovable/believable characters, and engaging, vivid, descriptive action....but there's got to be more to it, hasn't there?

Anyone who's gotten this award...or perhaps the ones whose duty it is to bestow it...help me! How is it won?

Any story or poem or essay that has at least ten votes with an average score of 4.50 or more earns the coveted H next to it. As to how that comes to pass, some or all of the things you mentiion and, most important of all, not pissing off the trolls too much.

You're confusing the 'Green E' Editor's Choice with the 'Red H' voter's choice. The editors have no control over the Red H and it is the only story flag you can lose (if your score drops below 4.5.)

The Editors' Choice flag is a purely subjective award and what might earn a Green E one day might not earn it another day -- i.e. there might be a better story posted the same day.

I have, not bragging, a Green E, in fact several. Although I don't think the story they gave it to is written all that well, the plot is unique and must have piqued the editors interest.

Beats me. I have a handful, and except for ones given a series in which getting a green E was one goal of writing the series, the rest have come as a surprise on stories I didn't think as good as many that didn't get it. I think there's a large element in it of the luck of the day of the editor actually looking more deeply into the story for some reason rather than just passing it on to the list quickly because of the heavy volume of stories needing to be processed.

Right. It was the original poster who has mixed up "editor's pick" with the "H" (reader's pick).

The first story I wrote got an "E", I think mainly because Laurel or Manu must have thought it was a great debut for a new author, but as I look back on it now the writing is atrocious to me.

However, I am proud of the "E" I got for my story "Kitten Love", it's my favorite of the stories I've written here.

Same here...When I saw that "E" beside my first chapter I was very surprised. Then when the next 15 chapters also had the "E" I was really surprised.

The one the "E's" is my second favorite story. The story I thought might get and "E" didn't. But that's show biz.
