The Dragon’s Den (Now Hiring)

This is an rp about the employees of a geek shop. comics, action figures, video games, trading cards, roleplaying material (D&D, White Wolf, Shadowrun, etc.), geek attire (shirts and hats and pants and stuff), as well as two special sections: Little Tokyo in the back corner, which has anime and manga. And in the back, hidden from immediate view, the H-Zone, a room full of hentai movies and adult manga. Below is a description of the shop.

There is no parking lot, since it’s on the main road, so it’s parallel parking, lol. However, employees will be told to park in the alley behind the shop. The alley door leads into a hallway. At one end is the manager’s office, at the other end is a lounge, which has a few tables and chairs, a soda machine and snack machine, a fridge and microwave, and a time clock for when people start answering the ad. About the center of the hallway are two more doors -- one leads out to the main store; in the corner by the front doors is a long counter with three cash registers. Behind the counter lies a glass case with the more expensive products, like game consoles and such. The other door off the back hallway lead to a small room that is the H-Zone. Customers may only enter this room accompanied by a clerk.

So, my character is a young man who has just returned to the Pinellas Park, Florida area. After he graduated high school, and then failed to get into Harvard University, he left Florida and traveled up north to Wyoming where he joined Burlington Northern, a railroad company. He spent the next four years traveling all over the Rocky Mountain Region, repairing old tracks and assembling new ones. He saved up a big chunk of money from doing this, then resigned and returned to Florida. Once back in Pinellas, he set up an apartment and rented a building on Park Boulevard. He stocked it up with all kinds of things considered geek, named it the Dragon’s Den, put up a “Now Hiring” sign, put an ad in the paper, and opened the doors in mid-June. In the week since it’s opened, the shop has gotten a surprising amount of customers, and the owner anxiously awaits someone to see the sign or respond to the ad.

My character is Robby Logan, he’s 22, and below is his character image.

Reply to this with your characters walking into the shop with their resume. Hours are Noon to Midnight.

Name: Amy Rogers
Age: 21

http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/7272/026cb0.jpg

Description: Amy is 5'6", Brown hair, brown eyes. She has fairly tan skin, very fit and athletic, with a decent chest.

Amy walked into the store and looked around a bit, as if she came in to look around and perhaps buy something. She pushed her hair behind her ears as she walked up towards one of the counters, hoping to find someone there. But the seat was empty, so she set the ad on the counter and looked around some more. Hopefully the owner would come back, and she could try to get a job.

She looked in through displays and noticed all sorts of objects: comics, figures, manuals, cards, etc. It was like a geek's dream come true to work here or even shop here. Out of the corner of her eye she caught someone moving around in back so she called out.

"Hello? Hi, I was wondering if I..." but she stopped as he disappeared again.

"Oh," she sighed but chipped up as he came forward. He did not fit the description of the kind of man she'd find owning this place. She blushed slightly, and offered her voice again.

"I heard you were looking for help." She said.

It had been a fairly busy Monday. Today marked one whole week that his store had been running, and Robby was very pleased with the profit he’d made thus far. He was running back and forth between front desk and the back room to keep the shelves stocked (he has a storage closet in his office where he keeps what isn’t on the shelves). Suddenly, coming back to the front, he noticed a very attractive young woman waiting for him. Ah, so she needed a job, as she said.

“Yes,” he said with a smile. He was wearing blue jeans and a grey t-shirt, with a blue shirt over it, open and unbuttoned with the sleeves rolled up to just below the elbows. “I am looking for a few extra hands around here. Do you have a resume? I never got around to ordering employment applications,” he said with a laugh.

The owner smiled at me as he made his way forward. He was dressed fairly casually, just a simple pair of jeans and a few shirts on top.

"I am looking for a few extra hands around here. Do you have a resume? I never got around to ordering employment applications."

I shook my head. "I'm sorry, but I don't have any formal documents or anything. I can give you phone numbers to previous establishments I've worked at though." I responded. I kicked myself in the foot for not bringing a resume anyways.

“Hmm,” Robby thought, then motioned her to follow him to the back. He grabbed a wire bound notebook and a pen and led her to the lounge. “If you could just write down your name, birth date, social security number, address, phone number, and about your past employment. Before I can process your W-4, I need a photocopy of a social security card and some form of ID, though.”

Amy follows Robby into the back, and sits down in one of the chairs.

“If you could just write down your name, birth date, social security number, address, phone number, and about your past employment. Before I can process your W-4, I need a photocopy of a social security card and some form of ID, though.”

I looked around in my wallet and found a few ID's and handed them to him, while filling out his requirements for emploment. I pushed some of my hair back as I wrote down my information.

"Name...age...numbers...employer..." I said as I filled them out. "Done." I said cheerfully.

“Okay, but...” Robby said after a moment. “How is it you have more than one ID? Are some of these fake? When you get a new ID, the old one is supposed to be voided with a special hole puncher...”

"Um, one is an old school ID... it says on the top. Besides, I have a driver's license, that's one ID. Then my SS Card is another form of ID so that's two pieces. I also have library cards, credit cards, receipts, etc."

“Okay,” he said with a smile, took the driver’s license and the ssn card from her, went to his office to make a photocopy and brought back a W-4 form, as well as a few other papers and laid them in front of her. “If you could just fill out your tax forms, I’ll be out front. Let me know when you’re done. Oh, btw, you’re hired.” he said with a smile then vanished to the front.

Smiling I began to fill out to the best of my knowledge all the forms. I hated doing this kind of processing, but it was required I suppose. After a good deal of thinking, the result of which her brain hurt, Amy finally finished. She sighed to herself as she stood up.

"Oh, he went up front." Amy slapped herself. Making her way up she handed him the forms.

"So what do you need me to do first?" I asked.

Chiaki Young
21
5'6"
A bouncing around college student that's seen more days outside of the class room then not. She's a self proclaimed 'school girl' living off her daddy's money but then again, she's got her fair share of issue. Just wanting to get out and experience the world.

--------

Chiaki stepped into the shop, she noticed the 'Now Hiring' sign in the window and almost jumped out of her skin. She wanted to get herself an after school job, something to do on her own time and get away from the constant political lime light her father seemed to create around the family.

As she entered the shop she resigned to looking around, checking out the various novelities and geek materials that made her mouth practically drool. But where was the anime and manga... ahh there it was. As her eyes trailed tothe small section interestingly designated 'Little Tokyo', going over she looked over the various selections stopping at a few to read some of the introductory material before setting it back on the shelf.

Seeing the girl was done with her papers, he led her back to the lounge, letting the other girl who had just entered know he would be right back, grabbed her papers and led her to his office. He did a quick look over, laid them on his desk, opened a drawer in his filing cabinet, pulled out a blank time card, wrote her name down on it, and handed it to her. “Slide this into the time clock in the lounge and then put the card in the rack on the wall next to the clock. Use this method to sign in and out each day. Once you’ve clocked in, come back out front,” he said with a smile, then walked back out and up to the other woman near the Little Tokyo section.

“Anything I can help you with, ma’am?”

Amy nodded as he handed her the card.

"K." she said in a cheery voice. Robby smiled and made his way up front. Taking a second to look around, Amy decided this was a decent place to work. So she made her way back to the front as well.

Anna Saropoulos
Age: 24

Anna is the daughter of a Greek restaurant franchise CEO, so her future is more or less granted as the one to succeed her father in the business. However, she has not been spoiled at all, and her family lives in a relatively humble way. Ann has been brought up to get along with everyone, and she's as gentle and kind as can be humanly possible.

Anna has also been taught to be independent, and so she works as a waitress at a fine five-stars restaurant. Although her father's influence helped, it is also true that such a job suits her just fine, and Anna sees it as a good chance to mold her character a bit more, not just being kind, but helpful. This also helps her being independent, because the income she gets from her job goes towards paying her own appartment. A nice, comfortable one with everything she could need. The only luxuries Anna allows for herself are beer and wine, sometimes a somewhat strange outfit (she likes to experiment), and romantic movies and novels.

As of late, Anna's little sister (about 15) has started taking a liking to manga and anime, and Anna, being a responsible sister, has decided to go a bit deep into this after a bit of prodding from her father so they know what her sister is exactly watching or reading. She doesn't know too much about this world, though, so she might need some help...

Ann stood in front of the store, in her black jeans, green top and jacket. Truth was, she was unsure about going in. She had heard many things about 'geeks', but Ann didn't like to be judgemental. So she stepped in confidently, and grinned at the sound of the little bell. That sound was always nice.

There was a girl looking at the displays on the "Little Tokyo" section. Ann instantly liked that name. It sounded cute, appropiate, and had a kind of exotic feel to it...

Seeing the man talk to the brunette Asian girl, Ann turned to the cashier. There were three high-school kids talking to each other, and eyeing some videogames behind the counter. Ann grinned, and walked over to them. Stepping beside the trio, she had a look at the games. Some reminded her of an ad or two she had seen on TV, but most were completely foreign to her. The kids spared a glance at her, before arguing a bit more hotly about the consoles. Apparently, there was something called P-es-three that was too expensive...

The store was bustling with youth. It wasn't the largest store around, but Amy figured that it took in good business. She had just been hired, but she wasn't sure what her job was exactly. She scratched her head slightly and pushed some of her hair back behind her ears before standing next to the register. She waited for her boss to fill her in on the days schedule.

Chiaki smiled brushing her hair from her face. "Oh I was just looking." she commented but then smiled brightly before turning to look at the man. "I um.. was wondering if you are still hiring. I sorta came by on a whim." she said softly biting her lip nervously as she looked back toward the display.

"I've worked in sales before so I'm quite familiar with it but sadly I do not have resume on me currently. I was just wandering around and happened to see the sign in your shop." she pointed to it then looked back at her feet feeling decidedly unprepared and uncertain.

“I just hired a girl, but I could use a second hand. Please, follow me,” he said with a smile, let Amy know he’d be right back, and then took this girl through the same process as he had Amy. Then, he gave them both a brief rundown of the LCD Touchscreen Cash Registers, and a quick tour of the shop. Then, returning to the front desk, Robby noticed a few kids still arguing about the prices of the new Playstation 3. He smiled and walked up to them.

“It’s possible the prices may change when the console is actually released, though I doubt it. I heard they kicked it back to November 2007. Even if you reserve it now for the displayed price, I assure you, if the price drops, I’ll refund the difference. But... I don’t know if it will. It’s $599 for the PS3 with a twenty gig hard drive, but for sixty gigs and wi-fi, it’s $699, and I think it won’t change much. But hey, it’s the friggin’ PS3! For that price, it’s gotta be something wicked.” he sniggered as the kids left the shop, still arguing with each other. Then, he noticed a very attractive woman browsing Little Tokyo. He told the girls to put to use what they learned and keep an eye on the register, and to yell for him if they needed help. He walked over to the drop dead gorgeous woman with the short dark hair and blue eyes.

“Hello,” he said with a smile. “You look a little lost. Anything I can help you with?”

Ann turned to see the young man addressing her. He probably was, if not one of the employees, then the owner. Ann had heard this store was open not too long ago, but had a great selection. That was what made her decide for this one.

"Hi. Nice to meet you. And yes, I am a little lost... truth be told, I am not much into videogames and Japanese fiction..."

Ann had also heard people sometimes got angry or annoyed at people calling the Japanese works 'cartoons' or something else, so she opted to go for a more diplomatic way of talking. Her voice was soft and as soothing as a pillow as she talked. To her credit, this was something she did effortlessly, and not out of interest.

"Uhmm, well, you see, my little sister took a liking to Japanese animation as of late. There was this series on TV last week... I don't remember the name. I think it was about a teacher falling in love with a student... So, she liked that a lot, and has been watching it with a passion!" Ann smiled. Passion was a good enough description of how her sister reacted to it.

"I would like to know more about that kind of programme to know which ones are good for her, and which aren't. Truth is, I am kind of... romantic, myself, and I could see myself get hooked on on those. So, what series would you reccomend to me?"

Ann blushed a bit, thinking the way she talked... it did sound like she was coming on to him. Hopefully, he wouldn't take it the wrong way... although he wasn't ugly. At least, he didn't look ugly to her. And he had an air of confidence to him... Ann thought he looked like a very reliable person, and judging people was not Ann failed at often.

“A teacher falling in love with a student... you just described about a hundred different anime titles,” he said with a laugh. “Hmm... One of my favorites is Chobits. It’s a series about a young man who failed to get into college and moves to Tokyo, to attend cram school, and ends up finding a broken down persocom. Uh-- A persocom is a human looking android. Person, Computer, PersoCom. So, he activates her and ends up falling in love with her, and she actually seems to return his feelings. It’s a great series. It’s funny, one of my friends thinks the main character, Motosuwa Hideki, looks like he was designed after me.” he said with a laugh.

“Maybe, if you’re not busy, we could discuss other anime titles over dinner?” he said with a charming smile.

OOC: Yes, the anime dude I used as Robby is in fact Hideki, lol

After receiving a rather quick lesson on how to manage the store, Amy felt rather... out of place for a moment. That was soon dealt with, as customers began to file in and look around. She did her best to answer their questions, which varied from "how much does this cost", "do you have any of these in stock", and "can I have your phone number." After pulling out a few sales, Amy sat down on the stool behind the counter and sighed. Boy, this job wasn't going to be easy.

Love with a computer person? That was really, really geeky, but Ann had an open mind, or at least tried to. Besides, it sounded kinda cute. And being a computer, they obviously wouldn't have sex, so...

“Maybe, if you’re not busy, we could discuss other anime titles over dinner?” he said with a charming smile. That pretty much interrupted Ann's thoughts, and her mind went blank.

"Uhhmm, yeah, sure..." Ann hadn't really intended to say that, but she went into automatic mode and blurted it out without really controlling herself. The realisation hit her hard and fast, though, and she blushed. Dinner? Why dinner? Was that a friendly invitation, or a date? Inwardly, she cursed the outfit she had chosen. It showed her mid-riff, but then for no reason, or just to feel safe, she had put on her jacket. Maybe she was clumsy choosing clothes?

Oh dear... "Aaahhh... but... well... mmmhhh..." Ann tried to decide on something as she put a hand to her chin, thinking things through. Ok, so he wanted to have dinner with her. Didn't sound too bad, and they were going to talk about anime for her sister. Talking about her sister probably would reduce the libido. And if nothing else... ah, what the hell. He was kinda cute.

Ann smiled back at the young man, as she relaxed. Her blue eyes fixed on his, her dark hair looked like an aureola around her face, and her slender neck came out of her open jacket with natural grace. "We haven't introduced ourselves yet! I'm Anna, but please call me Ann. And you are?"

“Oh, silly us. Nice to meet you Ann, my name is Robby. Robby Logan.” he said with a smile, shaking her hand gently. “So... is it a date? Say, seven?”

OOC: Sorry, short post, tired, lol

It WAS a date! Ann was surprised Robby would want to date her this fast. What did Robby see in her that made him take such a decision? This was quite sudden!

"W-w-well... Ok, fine by me..." Ann pushed her hands into her jacket's pockets to stop Robby from seeing her nervous, fidgeting fingers. Seven o'clock, she'd be out of her job by then, and she could ask a friend to cover for her. This really was too sudden! She didn't know anything about Robby, and Robby knew nothing about her! Although the date would of course be a good chance to solve that, but still...!

"Uhh... I... I have things to do... I'll be back at seven, Ok?" Ann tried to smile, but it was a quivering, kinda intimidated smile.
