The Kingdom of Belvoria was abuzz with the wonderful news that Prince Kaleb, son of King Artuthar was getting married in less than a week. He had met his soon to be bride once at a ball his parents had arranged a few months before. They seemed to have hit it off, though that was just a plus for the couple. Both their parents had arranged the whole affair, the future of the kingdom of Kelvor being at stake. The rumor was that her father was sick with some sort of incurable disease and didn't have much longer to live.
However, the news had reached a small bands of bandits who thought they could take advantage of the whole situation. For them, it seemed like a good way to earn some easy coin if they kidnapped the princess on her way through the long road between the kingdoms. There were only four of them, but they felt pretty confident they had a major payday on their hands.
It was a day's ride by carriage from the spot that they had chosen to setup the ambush. It took them a little work, but they had laid several logs across the road which would require a bit of time to clear off. There were also a couple of bear traps hidden beneath the logs to catch anyone clearing them out. Satified, they took up positions in the bushes on either side of the road, bows and swords ready for the time to strike.
