You can read about it here and here. The Deep State is a grouping of some -- not all -- federal agencies, plus some private corporations, mainly in Silicon Valley. It remains in some measure of power, doing what it does, regardless of the outcome of elections. What it does is mainly maintain the boundaries of the Overton Window to exclude from serious consideration anything that falls outside the "Washington Consensus" of neoliberalism in economic policy and neoconservatism in foreign policy.

As for Trump's relationship with it, see here.

The Deep State has been around at least since the middle fifties...in what is close to the modern form.

i'm pretty sure it's kingorfeo, so no, he does not shut up. ever.

The whole goal of the Deep State has always been to amass as much wealth and power into the hands of a few elites as possible. Nothing more than that, no big sinister secret.

Ironically, their biggest benefactor has been Donald Trump- even if you argue that he was NOT Putin's puppet, then he clearly was a puppet of the Deep State. Under his watch, ever-increasing amounts of wealth tricked upward, from the poor and middle class, towards the already wealthy 1%, and all the while he strove for unchecked and unlimited executive power. Even going so far as to openly attempt to thwart the democratic process. This was always the goal of the Deep State.

Those of you who claim to support Trump because he was fighting the Deep State- Wake up!! Trump IS the Deep State- personified and incarnate.

He is everything they have always wanted and always represented. At the very best, you could argue that his presidency may have led to some infighting among the Deep State, different factions (just like in "The Government" you had your liberals and your conservatives) but he was, and is, a product of and an executor of the Deep State.

Isn't every state administrative?

And? You all are upset about how Trump supporters tried to thwart the will of the people and here are unelected government bureaucrats with enough power to do so and will if they don't agree with what the people want.

That does, indeed, constitute a problem. Especially WRT economic policy. The "Washington Consensus" is apparently broad enough to accommodate Trump's or Bush's economics, Clinton's or Obama's or Biden's, but Sanders' or Warren's would be right out.

I think the executive branch bureaucracy pretty much equates to the deep state and that it, in fact, functions as an even keel for continuing government services to and protection of the people. Only in the Trump regime has it been significantly hampered, to the detriment of American society.
