Metropolis:

Lois Lane was on the scene of yet another attack on a high rise in the city of Metropolis. It seemed that a red beam hit the building and cut it like a laser. As like all the other times just when things looked their worse Superman shows up to save the day.

Grabbing the building I set it down to the ground and melt the concrete around it making a new foundation for the building. Quickly looking around there are only a few people with some minor injuries, nothing life threatning. I fly up to Lois.

"What happened?" I ask

"Eye witnesses say that sometype of red laser shot out of the sky from that direction." Lois replied.

As soon as as pointed I flew off in that direction to find out who was behind this. As I did I let out a call to GL and other Heros to try and help me with this mystery.

Green Lantern

I had just finished cutting the ribbon at the newest Home Depot near the Metropolis mall. It was amazing what people would do when you saved a their property from being destroyed. I smiled at some of the cute female associates as they literally fought to get my attention. One particular one caught my eye and I was about to step to it when my pager went off. Damn.... I thought I had told the Justice League computer to only page me inthe case of an earth threatening disaster. So much for some female company to keep me entertained.

Excusing myself, I moved to some open space in the parking lot. Using my ring, I created a field of propulsion below my feet and flew towards the coordinates that the computer had sent me. I was not at all suprised to see Superman coming closer in my vision. I waited for him to stop in midair. "Ok, exactly what is the problem today? I was about to get busy. "

I stopped in midair and described the situation to GL.

"Some kind of beam came out of nowhere, noone saw a ship or a being or anything and pretty much cut through the bottom of the skyscraper for the First Bank of Metropolis like a hot knife through soft butter." I told him.

As I was on my way to meet GL I had been going through the normal list of evil doers that would try something like this. Luthor, Darkseid, Joker, Sinestro, Eclipso the list could go on and on. Or mabye this was a new threat all together.

"Lets go see what we can find. Lois told me it came out of the sky in this direction." I told Lantern and I started to fly off in the direction.

Green Lantern

I stopped for a second absorbing the information Superman had given me. At least it was not a yellow beam, one of the things that I feared most. Red I could deal with. I had no definite idea who could have done it, though there were plenty that had that kind of expertise. I followed Superman as he took off towards the direction the laser came from.

Wonder Woman

She had just finished rescuing the young children from the burning orphanage. Two of the toddlers were still in her arms as she came down for a landing on the ground and handed them to the harried worker there.

Amid the profuse thanks that came from everyone, she heard her com link beep and turned to analyze the message sent by the JLA computer. Waving away the thanks, she turned and took off into the skies again, following the direction that the computer had given her as Superman's location.

It wasn't long before she met up with both him and GL and she nodded as she fell into flight pattern with them.

"What's wrong?" She asked and looked puzzled as she was filled in. "It must be someone of power to have a weapon that strong. They would also have to have many resources to finance it. We are talking a powerful foe, here."

Superman

"I was wondering about finance also, and there are only 2 people that I can come up with that would have the money to make a weapon if this is what it is. One is Luthor and the other is...." My voice trails off as I dont even want to say it, but mabye it is a possibility.

" The other is Wayne, who would have enough money to make a weapon with that power. Wait a sec!" I said and stopped in mid air.

"If we keep this flight path up, guess where we will end up at? The JLA Watchtower" I said and looked at GL and Wonder Woman suprised.

She looked from one male to the other and said,"And we haven't heard a thing from the rest of the league. I think we are being led into a trap."

Superman

"It could be a trap so we need to keep our guard up and be on alert." I told them as I sent yet another JLA message to Batman.

Where are you Bruce? I thought to myself as the Watchtower came into sight. Just then a yellow flash streaked across the sky almost hitting the Watchtower as it flew off into space.

"That came from behind us." I said as I looked around and debated to myself weather or not to follow that streak.

Green Lantern

Green Lantern nodded to Superman. "I think you should go follow that streak . Its yellow, so my power would be suspect. I think Wonder Woman and I can handle anything at least for a while. Plus, you are the only one fast enough to follow that streak. " Green Lantern waited to see what Superman would do.

Aquaman

After sliding out of near by ocean, he sees Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and Superman. He waves them down and looks at them causiously

Catching sight of Aquaman before she can answer the other men, she moved down to hover over him and explains the situation.

"We think the rest of the JLA might be in trouble. Care to give us a hand?" She asks.

"I'll help out as best i can, I'm sure my fellow sea creatures would be glad to help out"

Bruce Wayne

"And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why if you work hard, stay in school and really, really apply yourself, you'll be able to be successful in all of your endverors. Thank you and congratulations, Gotham High Seniors 2004."

The audience at the graduation ceremony stood up and applauded. Bruce smiled and waved as camera flashes went off. Bruce shook hands with Gotham High's principal and walked off the stage. He was on his way to his seat when his cell phone vibrated in his pocket. Bruce excused himself and made his way out of the auditorium.

"Wayne here."

"Master Wayne, there is an emergency that requires your immediate attention."

"What is it, Alfred?"

"I'm not sure, sir. But your JLA communicator has been beeping for the last twenty minutes."

"All right, Alfred. Bring the car around right away. You have my other suit with you, right?"

"Of course, sir."

"Good."

It wasn't long before Alfred arrived. Bruce climbed into the back seat of the limo and quickly changed into his Batsuit. Reaching into his utility belt, he pulled out his communicator, flipped it open and made a call.

"What do you want, Kent?"

Superman

"Thats a good idea, GL. Ill go after it." I tell him as I fly off trying to catch the streak.

"It seems to be some kind of trail, like a comet's tail." I tell the others through the communicator. Just as I end my sentance Bruce Wayne comes over the com.

"What do you want Kent?" he asks

"There is a situation and we need you at the Watchtower as soon as possible." I tell him not letting on my suspicion of him.

"I cant catch this thing, its at the speed of light somehow." I tell the others and stop and head back towards the rest of the group. Hopefully this wasnt a trap to get me away from the others, I think to myself as I head towards the Watchtower.

Batman

"Hrumph."

Batman clicked off his communicator. "Alfred, I'm afraid I won't make it home for dinner tonight."

"Pity, sir, I was going to try out a new stew my niece ahd sent me."

Batman clicked another button on his communicator, activating the beacon for the Batplane's autopliot to lock onto. He didn't like the tone in Superman's voice. It was almost accusing. Almost.

The Batplane appeared overhead. "Later, Alfred."

"Goodbye, sir. See you at home."

The sun roof to the car opened and Batman grabbed the lowering rope to the plane which reeled him up quickly. He sped off towards the Watchtower.

Green Lantern

Green Lantern watches as Superman flies off. As he is about to continue towards the Watchtower, Wonder Woman spots Aquaman. He follows her to talk to Aquaman. After the two of them converse, he decides its time to go to the Watchtower. Not one to always go with the herd, Green Lantern uses his powers to fly towards the Watchtower. As he gets closer, he checks all around for signs of a breakin. Finding nothing, he waits for the others to get there.

Superman

I fly back to the Watchtower as fast as I can, just incase it was a trap. As I get there I see no fighting going on. I enter the tower and head to the meeting hall where Green Lantern is seated.

"Im going to check the sensors and see if I can get a lock on whatever flew by." I tell him as I start to check.

"Let me get your thoughts on this, just you and I. Do you think that Batman could, or would do anything like this?" I ask GL.

I look on the monitor and see Wonder Woman and Aquaman headed up to the Watchtower. I check the sensors and see that Batman is almost there as well.

"If it was him, what in the world would be his motive?" I ask aloud not only to GL but to myself.

Batman

"What would I need a motive for, Kal-El?"

Batman walked into the control room and right up to Superman. His cold, calculating eyes locked on to Superman's.

"What are you accusing me of?"

Superman

Hearing him as his batplane landed, he did not catch me by suprise.

"Im not accusing you of anything Bruce. We were just trying to figure out who or what would be capable of making a weapon, if it is a weapon, that could cut through a skyscraper like a hot knife through soft butter." I tell him bluntly.

"Luthor and You are the only people I can think of that would have the resouces needed to make a weapon like that. Your company did build the Watchtower Bruce, you could have had it done, but I really dont think you did and I dont think that Lex did either. Im wondering if this is the work of some unknown threat that we have never faced before." I tell them.

Just then the Watchtower sensors start to blare that there is an intruder inside the Watchtower.

"Sector a5!" I yell as I fly off in the direction to see just who or what has gotten through our defenses so easily.

Gl was suprised to see the genuine sparks flying between Bruce and Superman. He knew the two were always holding some form of informal competition, but this was ridiculous. He was about to say something when the alarm went off.

The Flash

As they entered Sector a5, all that could be seen was a blinding red and gold streak cutting a path across the floor of the cavernous room.

Suddenly, a line of dust particles made its way right towards them. In an ear-splitting squeal, it came to a resounding halt right in front of them.

"Hey guys! I don't mean to sound like a party pooper or anything, but if we don't update these defenses pretty soon, I'm not even gonna break a sweat getting in here anymore!" said the Flash.
