I like to smoke weed. The following is a result of my smoking one night, and finding my self at the computer... nothing much more to do, after all... I was on the road for my job, and in a hotel room. I don't like to "go out" in a strange town... please tell me what you think... Postive feedback makes me write too!
It's a story about how/when me and my soulmate met.

It seemed like any other day, I was a customer service representative for a mediocre long distance company. The shift began at 3:30 in the afternoon, and the drive to work was a hectic one. I had already passed 2 traffic accidents on the busiest stretch of the “main vein” connecting Pasco and Pinellas counties. In the 12 miles that I had to travel to get to work, and was hoping that I would not have to sit in traffic to await the arrival of yet another Life Flight® helicopter. I arrive a few minutes early for my shift, I always tried to get there early, as I had to ready my workstation, and the snarling traffic on the way to work didn’t help.
After I stopped by my manager’s desk I went to my own in order to boot up the computer and prepare to punch in. The next few hours were uneventful, aside from the occasional irate and or disgruntled customers. “You over charged me for international calls” and “Where is my free month of AOL?” These were all too common concerns, but these things I took in stride, as I had dealt with customers just like these many times in the past. It was almost time for my break, and I raised my hand to get the attention of my “in-charge” Denis.
As he walked over I saw her. A beautiful woman, wearing skintight jeans that left little to the imagination, and WOW no pantyline! She looked a lot like an old girlfriend of mine, well not really a girlfriend, but someone I once took to dinner and a movie. I got approval for my break time, and since I had just given up the cigarette, I decided to take a walk to the bathroom, and then stop by the soda machines for an ice-cold Mountain Dew. The soda was a well-deserved one, but ice-cold, not so much. I checked my watch.
‘Ten minutes left. Breaks seem a little longer since I quit smoking.’ I thought to myself.
I stopped by a table and spoke with a fellow “peon” about the book that he was reading, and I asked him.
“Dude, who is that red-head in Special Services? She’s sitting up front.”
“I don’t know who you are talking about.” He replied.
I checked my watch again, and made my way back up to my desk.
As I sat back down I saw Denis was assisting another representative, and I waited for him to finish up with them and called him over.
“Dude, who is that?” I asked pointing toward her.
“You mean Sherry?” he said.
‘So her name is Sherry, nope, it’s not who I thought it was’ I thought to myself.
“Sherry?” I asked.
“Yeah, that’s Sherry, Rose’s roommate.”
“Damn dude, she’s HOT! And a redhead, you know what they say about redheads don’t ya?
He merely grinned as he walked away to help another rep.
The rest of the night was pretty much uneventful. I muttled through the rest of the night, dreading the drive home, and what was awaiting me when I got there.

The next day, I awoke, unusually refreshed.
“Wow, I dreamed about her, a girl that I don’t even know, and I had a dream about her.” I said aloud, only because there was no one else home.
I Arrived 3 hours early for my shift, two reasons come to mind, I didn’t like being at home, and I had to find out MORE about this Sherry.

When I got there, I picked out a desk close to where Rose was sitting; I couldn’t wait to get on the phone and raise my hand, because I wanted to grill Rose about her roommate. Sure enough, I had a question, or the customer wanted to speak to my manager, or something, I can’t really remember, as my brain was clouded with thoughts of Sherry. I wanted to ask Rose about Sherry, without being forward, or presumptuous, I danced all around asking her, and somehow we ended up talking about my new Video camera.
“My roommate needs to have her daughter video taped for something.” Rose has said quite pointedly.
There it was. She brought her up. I played dumb.
“Who is your roommate?” I asked.
“Sherry.” “She works nights now.”
“Oh, the redhead?”
“Yeah, that’s her.”
“I’ll do it, tell her I’ll do it, no charge, just tell her to buy a 8mm tape.”
‘I’m in.’ I thought to myself. I was beaming. I felt like I had just won the lottery.

It wasn’t long before Sherry came in. She sat down in the desk right next to mine, she had a really nice top-of-the-line telephone headset, I was jealous, and I wanted one too. That made a good icebreaker.
“Hi Sherry, I’m James, I want your phone.” I said, as I put out my hand.
“Hello James, you can’t have it.” She said extending her hand into mine.
‘What soft skin she has, and damn! She smells good’ I thought to myself.
“You smell good.” I smiled
“Thank You.” She smiled back.
She was dressed to kill, a thin almost mini number, I wondered who she was trying to impress. I was hoping that it was me.
Somehow we managed to get our breaks at the same time, and she had said that she was going to walk over to the store for coffee, and asked me if I would go. I happily agreed, and could only think about how I wanted to put my arm around her. But I didn’t I wasn’t sure how she would react. I kept my hands to myself.
A week or 2 passed, and we had been talking about many different things, most of which we had in common. One of them being that we both liked to watch professional wrestling. I had offered to let her borrow a recent pay-per-view that I had taped, on the condition that she returned it to me. A few weeks passed and I had not seen any evidence that she was going to bring the tape back to me.
“Are you finished with that tape yet?” I asked
“Yeah, follow me home and I will give to you.” She replied
I thought for sure that she was joking, as she had said the same thing a week or so earlier.
Tonight was going to be the night that I took her up on her offer, as the night neared an end; I asked her if I could walk her to her car.
“Sure.” She said, “I’m not parked far, but sure.”
We stood out by her car and discussed many things for nearly two hours, and she said to me, “Come home with me and we can talk more, besides, I still have your video tape.”
I was overjoyed, “OK, but are you going to bring me back here?” I said.
“Follow me over in your car goof.”
I felt dumb and happy at the same time. I nearly killed myself trying to get to my truck before she left, I didn’t want her to drive off, and leave me sitting there.

The drive to her house was a short one, all the way across the street.
I followed her into the driveway, and shut off the lights and set the parking brake. As I got closer to her car, I saw that she was just sitting there, country music blaring. One of her favorite songs was playing on the radio. We went upstairs to her condo that she shared with Rose.
Sherry opened the unlocked door and removed her high heels. Wanting to be the perfect gentleman, I asked her “Do I need to take mine off?”
“No, c’mon up.” She replied
I followed her up the darkened stairwell, and into the dimly lit dining area of the condo.
“Wow! Nice place!” I whispered.
“It’s actually Rose’s place, I’m not even on the lease, I rent a room from her. That’s Rose’s room.” She told me, pointing to a closed door on the other side of the dining room table.
The kitchen was small. As she opened the empty refrigerator, with a look of hope on her face the light from the refrigerator fell across the dirty dishes piled high in the sink. She mumbled something about Rose’s kids eating cereal out of her University of Kentucky coffee cup, as she washed it out, and put it in the dish drainer. I made my way to the couch, and sat quietly for a few minutes.
“I’ll be right back, I am going to change clothes.” She said
When she returned, she was wearing a pair of nice denim shorts, and a T-shirt. “Damn! She looks good even dressed down.” I thought to myself.
She sat next to me on the couch. We stared at the blank TV set for what seemed like an eternity, and finally asked, “Do you have cable?”
“No, we used to, but they shut it off when I refused to pay for a movie that I didn’t even order, I think one of Rose’s kids ordered it. And I won’t pay for it.”
“Oh, I see.” Was all I could seem to get out.
“Let’s go sit out on the balcony and talk.” She said jumping up and sliding the door open.
I followed her outside. The balcony overlooked the spot where I parked my truck and the yard along the side of the house. Not a large yard, mostly overgrown with weeds and pineapple palm trees. As I sat on the patio furniture I could feel the dampness as a heavy fog had already set in.
“So, what’s going on with you at home?” She asked.
“Well,” I said, “You know how when you do without something long enough, you just don’t want it anymore?”
She nodded.
“That’s what is going on with me at home. I’m not happy there. That is why I work so many hours, I just don’t like being there.” I delivered this statement with conviction.
“So, are you planning to leave her?” She asked.
“Yeah, I mean, don’t get me wrong, I still love her, as she is the mother of my child, I just don’t like her very much. We don’t get along, and we can’t raise a child in an unhappy home.” I told her.
She again, nodded, agreeing with me. We talked and talked about all kinds of things. I shared the important parts of my childhood, my experiences in the Navy. She told me about the day that her mother passed away, about her father, and about the 15 year relationship / marriage that she wanted out of in a bad way. And she told me about her current boyfriend. I was crushed. But she also had told me in the same breath that she really didn’t want to see him anymore either, as she had this feeling that he was becoming to attached to quick, and hadn’t really helped her out much. She was further along with her wishes with that than I was, as she had already been separated for almost a year, and how I envied her, I could only dream of being separated for that long. And at that point I decided that I really needed to make it a reality.
“Where is your bathroom?” I asked.
“C’mon, use the one upstairs, we don’t wanna wake Rose. She has to get up and go to work tomorrow.”
I followed her upstairs, not once taking my eyes off of her behind. (I was still looking for that elusive pantyline.) Oh, how I wanted her to be mine.
‘Would I get a slap in the face if I tried to kiss her?’ I thought to myself. ‘I won’t push it. That would be way out of line.
As we entered her bedroom, she pointed to the left. “That’s Jesse’s room. The bathroom is right through here.”
She bent over to pull the chain on the lamp that sat on the floor beside the desk. The room was empty, except for a bookcase, a desk and a dresser. She went into the bathroom and closed the door that led to Jesse’s room, and turned on the light. “There you go.” She said.
I entered and did my thing, and washed up. And came back into her bedroom. She turned off the light and I followed her back downstairs to the balcony. This time when we sat down she sat closer and put her leg across mine. I checked my watch; it was nearing 3:30 am. “I really should be getting back home.” I said.
I saw the look of hurt in her eyes. ‘This is too much fun, but I really need to go’ I thought to myself.
“O.K.” She said.
She walked me back downstairs, and to my truck.
“See you tomorrow?” I asked.
“Yes.”
I was a happy soul. I don’t remember the drive home, but I know it didn’t last very long. Tomorrow would be another day, another exciting day.
The next day was somehow different, I was a happier person and it must have shown. When I got to work, I sat next to Wendy, a day shift rep.
“What in your life has changed?” Wendy inquired.
“I met someone.”
“Really? That’s awesome!”
“Good for us both.” I grinned.
“I hope it all works out for you, you happiness is what is important.”
“Do you know that feeling you get when you have found the ‘Right’ one?”
“Well, I know that feeling, now. I am going over again tonight.”
