*The book that lay before you is one that shows much extravagence...what with its gem-encrusted cover and dark silk ribbon bookmark. It has no title...simply words within, written in a flowing, enchanting script. The first page seems to leap out at you, demanding to be read first before all others. In fact...none of the other pages can even be viewed, until the page before them is read. And so, the first page begins as follows...*
"Tonight, I find myself awakening after many millenia. To me, it seems I've only been asleep for a short time, though in all reality many, many long years have passed. The world seems to have changed....those dark days before written history seem to have faded away, and mankind now sits upon a throne of opulence, narcissistically enjoying his own reflection in a mirror of his own design. Humans, it seems, have become more self-absorbed and self-loving as they ever have been. I can only wonder what sort of things had occured during my repose to bring them from humble, cowering creatures afraid of their own shadows, praying to false gods and deities alike to help them understand the things they could not, and explain the things they were unable to explain.
I myself could have been considered a deity back in those times...though now, I am not so certain. Mankind seems unwilling to believe his supernatural upbringing..he has come to denounce all those things that held him entranced and in fear. Things like ghosts and demons are now just silly ideals to be portrayed only in Hollywood, or by little children in absurd, stereotypical costumes. He has lost sight of the true nature of things, preferring instead to live safely holed-up in artificial bubbles of comfort and routine. The supernatural is thought of as an occult ideal and not taken seriously, except by people who are deemed crackpots or those "eccentics" who believe that the spirits of the dead can communicate from beyond the grave.
And some of them are at least partially on the money. But I don't feel like getting into a silly debate about the possible existence of supernatural beings when I -am- a supernatural being.
My name is Lillith. I've had many names, through many mythologies and texts throughout the world's written histories. Each one holds its own version of what it feels I am and should be. None of them are really close to the truth. I'll leave it all up to you, who read these words, to decide on what and who you wish to believe. I feel I have no reason whatsoever to explain the truth of my being to creatures who couldn't possibly understand it. I am an immortal..I am Endless. There is no death, there was no life for me. I simply -am-. Like the sky and the rocks and all the planets in your solar system, I am here.
I can hear you wondering now, "Why would someone so powerful like you be stuck in a realm like this, where she is unhappy with the current state of affairs?" ...My answer is pure and simple enough. I am bound here. Let's leave it at that. I cannot travel to other places, other realms of possibility and realities. I am stuck here on Earth because this is where my banishment from the Garden of Eden placed me.
For the past several thousand years, I have been sleeping. ..Yes, sleeping. You are probably thinking I'm out of my mind...but I assure you I am as sane as anyone else could possibly be. I have been asleep that long because for me, time passes differently. You could be born, grow old, and die before you'd see the end of a millenium or the beginning of another. For me, however...I could close my eyes for a moment, and miss an entire millenium.
So for me...a light nap is sleeping through a few thousand years..and to me it's just like taking an afternoon nap is for you. Time passes differently for me. I never sleep because of this, except in very rare situations. Then I sleep for eons.
Tonight, though..I find myself awake after having slept through the last few millenia. I feel refreshed...as one would most certainly imagine. I also feel incredibly aroused and, for lack of a better term, horny. Can you imagine how it would be, to go through a few thousand years without getting any? Talk about sexual tensions. I have a sex drive that would extend clear across the globe a few times and still have room for one last jaunt halfway. I suppose that is what woke me up....or maybe it was the fact that I'm getting tired of satiating my desires in my sleep. Whatever the case...I have awakened once more..and though this time the world is very much different than what it used to be...I'm pretty sure I can still do as I always have with not much trouble.
So I'm going to put down my pen, now....and perhaps go out tonight...and pursue a few of the darker desires that you humans like to call "sins". For yes..I am a creature of Sin...Lust and Deceit ...those are the sins I represent. Tonight, I shall see what mortal man I can lead into temptation and eternal damnation...it was a challenge once before, the last time I was awake. Men were cautious and superstitious...they feared women, some of them..claiming them witches and demons. We shall see if thier foolishness is prevalent in today's world."
