Is it possible? Yeshmmnmm said:The more I look around at the world, listen to the news, assess the overall quality of entertainment these days, etc, etc (don't mean to be such a downer here), I can't shake this sinking feeling that we're entering or already entered (around 2003) a sort of Dark Ages.
Is it possible?

If we're headed into a Dark Age, it's not because of the common people's entertainment. It's because the people that make the important decisions are decadent swine.

Oi-vey.My favourite author suggests that a good start on change would be to shut down the Chicago School of Economics.

But you can't take a shit in the West without an acolyte of the Chicago School telling you've done it wrong, how to do it better and charging you for the privilege of them showing off their superior knowledge.
I'm sure they'd find lots of other places that would snap them up. But it would free us from from the web of sophistry they've wrapped us in.

My favourite writer compares them to the Bolsheviks. There aren't a lot of them and they're driven by a simple, economically deterministic philosophy.
Their first step was to hijack the language. This made it difficult to discuss anything, but especially economics on any terms other than the ones they set. You can't argue with them because they've won before you even start.
Their second step was to gain power by hiding their revolutionary intent by hiding behind a 'conservative' front. Once they got that power, they took the gloves off.
None of what's happened over the last few years has surprised me. History rhymes.

When this happens, the world will contract, living will become intensely parochial, the suburbs will turn into slums or abandoned areas, and the US might become Balkanized, i.e., break up into several autonomous or semi-autonomous states.
