Foods that appear to be nutritious could actually be destroying your brainpower. The culprit? A common ingredient slipped into many "healthy" foods, including baby food, applesauce, and oatmeal, a breakfast favorite. Researchers at UCLA found that ingesting foods and drinks containing the ingredient high-fructose corn syrup for just six weeks caused troubling changes in brain function. "Our findings illustrate that what you eat affects how you think," says Fernando Gomez-Pinilla, PhD, a professor of neurosurgery and integrative biology and physiology at UCLA. "Eating a high-fructose diet over the long term alters your brain's ability to learn and remember information."

Healthy food doesn't have High Fructose Corn Syrup in it.
I rarely drink it, but when I do drink soda, I drink Pepsi Throwback.
 
I gave up sugar and almost died. Well, that's kind of an exaggeration but I sure didn't get any smarter.
 
Does anybody remember where that thread was about snowballing? Is this the right forum?
 
I gave up sugar some years ago.
Not only did I lose weight without really doing anything else, but I also started sleeping better, my skin became way better, my taste changed (ended up giving up salt too, as my taste became more sensitive), I became less 'fidgety' and able to completely relax, and yes I do believe I became more able to concentrate and therefore smarter.
Sugar stimulates the exact same part of the brain that gets excited by cocaine and heroin.... essentially, the more you have the more you want. Addiction at it's best.
Some doctors believe that sugar is the single most addictive and dangerous substance out there. Others believe it is sugar, and not fats, that is responsible for the obesity epidemic (noting hidden sugar in tomato sauce, etc).

This explains a lot about the stupid activities I see in social websites, schools, and traffic. Everyone is suffering from 'high-fructose corn syrup' brain damage. Someone needs to warn Congress about the effect those sugary diets are having on their ability to resolve anything.
