they're having a tough time of things lately, what with these pesky hearings and such. So when Bill Barr and, especially, Ivanka are up there saying trump didn't win, they're filling that void between reality and their beliefs with new, outrageous theories.

One post that spread widely this week suggested Barr was paid by Dominion Voting Systems, a company targeted by Trump and his supporters with baseless claims of vote rigging. “From 2009 to 2018, DOMINION PAID BARR $1.2 million in cash and granted him another $1.1 million in stock awards, according to SEC filings. (No wonder Barr can’t find any voter fraud!),” the post read.

Wrong Dominion. Barr was paid by Dominion Energy, a publicly traded company headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, that provides power and heat to customers in several mid-Atlantic states.
Jordan Sather, a leading proponent of the QAnon theory, claims both Barr and Ivanka Trump lied during their testimony on Trump’s orders, part of an elaborate scheme to defeat Trump’s enemies by confusing Congress and the American public.

“I can just imagine Donald Trump telling Ivanka: ’Hey, go to this hearing, say these things. Screw with their heads,'” Sather said last week on his online show.
Many posters say they don't even believe the hearings are happening, but are a Hollywood production starring stand-ins for the former president's daughter and others.

“She looks different in a big way," one poster asked on Telegram. "CGI?”

this is what happens when a cult has conditioned its members (victims) to believe its lies and the truth surfaces to conflict 100% with what they've been taught.
they're so invested in believing, it's truly mentally AND emotionally difficult for them to make some sense of it all. Some will be able to step away and regain clarity; others can only find inner balance by embracing the lies and turmoil, doubling down on what they feel safer believing. kinda like religion.

this... sather embracing traits of that disgraced ex-president, traits that–should it have been a democrat ex-president speaking, Obama for example–would have had him screaming into the mic about unpresidential behaviour, mockery of our American republic democracy, heinous way to play and lie to the great American public yada yada yada

the very fact that he 'can imagine' trump saying it, almost praising it as a strategy instead of not automatically rejecting it as wrong, is the perfect example of cognitive dissonance.
