For those people who sent me feedback on "The Coffee Shop" series of stories asking when part five would be posted, the answer is as soon as I am finished writing it. (grin) While it may seem like a long time between posts of new parts, please understand that writing a story of more than 200,000 words takes a lot longer than one month. Thank you everyone, who did send me feedback. It was most welcome. Of course, like most of the writers here, what I would really like to get is some positive public comments and good votes on my stories. (grin)

Once a story has been written, comes the task of proofreading it, which in itself can easily take a month. Often as I am writing I will go back and change events that happened in earlier chapters of a part, which is why I do not post the story in chapters. I wait until the story is finished to my satisfaction, and then I post it.

Regards,
Canadian Cowboy.

Isn't this the wrong way round?

Telling readers to be patient is as big a sticking a finger up as I can think of.

Sure, you want to write War and Peace or seven chronicles of Harry Potter - fine by me. If J K Rowling announced, "Fans be patient, you really don't understand the technicalities of proofing or copy editing we'd have told her to naff off.

If you started posting a major work, you should have planned the timetable. This sounds like premature ejaculation. Don't start posting until you knoe you can fulfill expectations. 200k words is asking a lot from readers - think how much of their life they have to devote to you.

We want to read a story - however many chapters - and are realy not interested in the writer's problems.

Interesting viewpoint that I had not considered.

Hi Elfin.

It is an obvious truth that readers of a story are not interested in the writer's problems. If I were a professional writer and this was my job, then yes of course I would be creating a timetable and working towards those goals. This is not my job, nor it is my life. It is a hobby, one of many, that I allocate a portion of my time. I do not have a timetable as to when the next part of my story will be posted. I write when ideas come to me, and when I am inspired. This is not an excuse, just a simple statement of fact.

When I receive feedback that 'complains' about the delay between postings of parts of the story, I have to chuckle, for the very reason that you mentioned earlier. The reader has no idea what has been going on in my life that might lead to a delay in posting the next part of a story. I can understand their interest in reading the next part of the story, and that they would like to see it as soon as possible. I consider such interest to be flattering, as it indicates an appreciation for my efforts.

I fail to see how asking for the reader's understanding in the delay in posting the next part of the story is "sticking a finger up". It seems obvious that I have offended you, and possibly other readers of my stories. It would seem that an apology is in order. So, to any readers of my stories who were offended, pissed off, or made angry by my first post in this thread, I offer my sincere apology for offending you. The intention of my post was to let the readers of my stories know that I am still working on part five and that I am committed to posting it as soon as it is complete. Clearly I did not communicate this point very well. I hope I have clarified the situation to your satisfaction.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post, Elfin. Sincerely,
Canadian Cowboy.

You might want to write a complete piece before posting any of it. Then you don't have the readers complaining you're taking too long. Submit a chapter every so many days until it's all posted.
