Harley Lopez a college cheerleader for the university baseball team is cheering on the team during their final game of the Freshman season. When the team's underdog player.

Malcome ruth a young man with Spina Bifida and must use a wheelchair to get around, wheels up to the plate after taking a few practice swings he was ready for business.

The pitcher threw his first pitch Strike one! he threw his second pitch strike two!

on the third pitch Malcome hit the ball hard Crack!! He dropped the bat with his left hand and rounded the bases as fast as he could.

when he reached the spot on the baseball diamond between the 2nd and 3rd base's his wheelchair tipped over pinning his left arm and shoulder on the ground.

the seconds ticked by but he was unable to get up off the ground when it was obvious that his fellow player's were not going to help him up, Harley threw her blue and white cheerleader pom pom's to the ground, ran over to him and helped him up.

once he was up he finished his run and made it to home plate the umpire shouted "Your Out!"

Malcome wanted to protest his ruling put he was to tired and his body was to sore. So he returned to the dugout at the end of the game, his team lost and his fellow players blamed him for their loss.

Some cursed him some yelled some gave him dirty some spit and a couple hit him but he just sat their quietly wiping the spit and sweat off of his face.

Harley walked over to the dugout and sat down beside him and tried to cheer him up. "Despite what your teammates say you did a good job today oh my i better take you back to my dorm room and clean up your face its really beat up."

Then she pushed him into here dorm room and began to clean him first she washed the dirty spit and sweat, then she cleaned up the cuts and scraps with disinfectant once they were clean she put bandages on them.

"There good as new not brand new of course. can i make you something to eat? you look hungry.

Feeling feebly and weak, like she was only looking after him because no one else wanted tone, he replied meekly,

"No thank you, I am not really hungry. But thank you for helping me. Normally I am more stable around the bases, but something happened today."

He looked away from her, his face red, partially from the cuts and scrapes, but also because of embarrassment from wiping out in front of the whole school, and the popular cheerleaders.

"Aren't you going to get in trouble just leaving the game like that though miss."

It was then he realized he didn't even know her name

"My names Harley and your very welcome i am happy i was able to help you.

And no i won't get in trouble if anyone asks i was simply helping someone who needed help. And their is no need to feel embarrassed Malcome everybody makes mistakes that is what makes us human.

"I know that people make mistakes, but I seem to have a magnifying glass over me, if you haven't noticed," He said gesturing to his wheel chair.

"Anytime I make a slip of the tongue or do anything wrong at all everyone just starts to laugh and criticize me for even trying."

He was warming up to Harley, she was very pretty, and it didn't hurt that she was a cheerleader and one of the more popular girls in the school.

"But speaking of, what was the reason you did come and help me. Not that I don't appreciate it, I do, but I just figured that everyone just was going to stand there at laugh at the guy in the wheel chair trying to play baseball"

"To be honest my grandpa told me when i was growing up "Harley when you see someone who needs help you must help them."

"Also just because you're in a wheelchair does not mean you can't do things and regarding those people who make fun of you they're just a bunch of morons who don't care about anybody but themselves."

The last part brought out a smile from Malcome. "I agree they are morons, and it is refreshing that there is someone out there who doesn't feel that it is my fault for being here, and for trying to be normal. But I do think I will take a sandwich, if you don't mind that is. If not I can just head to the cafeteria, they should still be serving dinner."

" Your very welcome Malcome One sandwich coming up." Harley grabs the sanwich supplies from her refrigerator lays everything out on the counter and proceeds to make a sandwich for her new friend.
"Here you go Malcome one sandwich." then i pull out a kitchen table chair for you so you can sit at the table."

I wheel over to the table and begin to eat.

"So what are you thinking for a major?"

"well i love taking care of people so i was thinking about majoring in nursing." How about you? what are you thinking about majoring in?"

"Biology, in general. Don't know about a specific discipline yet, thinking something to deal with microbiology. Maybe Laboratory diagnostics but I don't know. But I guess that means we will be seeing at least a little more of each other."

I smile at you shyly, trying to not let my nerdy nature come out

"Yes we certainly will and i think you would be great at that who know's maybe your biology work may lead to a treatment or cure for a disease or lots of disease."

then i smile at you in return

"I doubt I will get to be that important. I am just wanting to help others in a way that I can. I may not be able to physically care for anyone, but if I can help them with knowing what is going on inside them, I think that is about as good."

"I think that's very noble and hey you never know in life maybe you will find a few disease cure's you never know. you just have to keep your eye's and mind open. by the way i think your a very bright intelligent man."

"Not trying to be brass but how do you know? I mean as far as I know this is the first time we have ever met. I know we didn't have any classes this year, at least I don't think that we did. I will admit that I was in the corner and background for most of the year."

"Honestly i can tell by look at you that your very bright and intelligent. and no we did not have any classes together. I think i would have noticed if a nice looking guy in a wheelchair came into one of my classes."

That last part made me blush very red. I had never had a girl look at me twice, let alone tell me that I am handsome.

"Uh, thank you Harley. But do you think your boyfriend will like me being here this late, or you calling me handsome?"

I ask, partially asking to make sure that she is single

"I don't have a boyfriend and you are a very handsome young man. To be honest i have never dated very much i have always been way to busy with my studies and with cheerleading."

I smile, at least I am not the only one that is not experienced.

"Well at least I don't have to worry about some jock coming to beat me up because I am talking to his sexy girl," I say, putting the last little comment to test your reaction

"If some athlete try to harm you for talking to me i would give him a beating a very severe beating. Their is now rule or law forbidding a cheerleader from talking to anyone that she wants to talk to. and even it their was rule forbidding i would simply break it."

and thank you for the sexy comment.

I smile, blush, and look down, " Thank you Harley." I then looks up and see the clock, "It is getting late isn't it?"

I don't know when you like going to bed or anything, also I am finding myself in a more awkward situation every word that comes from my mouth

"Your welcome Malcome and yes it is getting late i will take you back to your dorm room. let me get the kitchen cleaned up first." Then i clean up the kitchen grab my purse and i say "Are you read to go Malcome?"

"Yes Harley I think I am," with that I wheel out of your room, down the hall and we are off toward my dorm.

"This is a beautiful night, isn't it?"

"Yes as a matter of fact it is i think it is the most beautiful friday nights i have ever seen in my life."

I look up at you, I make a side comment, "and the most beautiful sight is beside me"

I turn and look at you

"Oh thank you Malcome that was very sweet of you to say." And after a long journey we reach your dorm room. "Malcome i realize that we just met but would you like to go out on Saturday?"
