Last season we had a large number of artistic challenges that were open to any and all artists working in any and all mediums. To say the least we got a great deal of very interesting and fantastic art.
Unfortunately these challenges got somewhat out of hand in their frequency. I believed then, as I do now, that because of the frequency, the artists rarely got to do something that was integral to the original concept of the challenges; They rarely got to push themselves to explore and expand their personal artistic boundaries and abilities. It was obvious in many of the works that, because of the very short time in between the challenges, the artists were falling easily into what they knew best to start and complete the challenge. That took away some of the meaning behind having a "challenge" at all.
So now, I'm curious. Should we restart the challenges with greater emphasis on them actually being challenges?
I'm thinking that there should be a bare minimum of five artists participating in each challenge, so I'll open this forum with needing to hear positive responses from a minimum of five different artists. Any less than five artists and I think this should be a dead idea. Any less than five artists participating in a given challenge and the challenge dies instantly.
Once we have, IF we have, a minimum of five artists who wish to take these challenges, I'll outline the rules for the new challenges and open them up for discussion.
I'll wait. I'm paid by the hour.
