The Challenges ...

Last season we had a large number of artistic challenges that were open to any and all artists working in any and all mediums. To say the least we got a great deal of very interesting and fantastic art.

Unfortunately these challenges got somewhat out of hand in their frequency. I believed then, as I do now, that because of the frequency, the artists rarely got to do something that was integral to the original concept of the challenges; They rarely got to push themselves to explore and expand their personal artistic boundaries and abilities. It was obvious in many of the works that, because of the very short time in between the challenges, the artists were falling easily into what they knew best to start and complete the challenge. That took away some of the meaning behind having a "challenge" at all.

So now, I'm curious. Should we restart the challenges with greater emphasis on them actually being challenges?

I'm thinking that there should be a bare minimum of five artists participating in each challenge, so I'll open this forum with needing to hear positive responses from a minimum of five different artists. Any less than five artists and I think this should be a dead idea. Any less than five artists participating in a given challenge and the challenge dies instantly.

Once we have, IF we have, a minimum of five artists who wish to take these challenges, I'll outline the rules for the new challenges and open them up for discussion.

I'll wait. I'm paid by the hour. :D

Hahaha!!

Can you give me an example of one of your previous challenges, HnH?

I'm not sure about this, unless it can be done on a scale of only sround 11" x 17" at most. I've got quite a few other drawings (commissions) in progress.

At that time the rules were: A piece of subject matter would be given; Everyone had one week to produce a piece based on the subject given; The pieces were to be erotic, non-erotic or either depending on the person giving the subject; At the end of the deadline the person conducting the challenge would post all the entries in a new thread and voting would be done by anyone on Literotica who wished to vote; When the voting was done at the end of the next week, the person with the most votes hosted the next challenge and chose the next subject.

I loved the challenges and some of my favortie pieces ever came out of them.

I say please do bring them back, and I'd even post sure to lose stick figures to make sure there were five poeple going.

Is your definition of art limited only to the erotic drawings? If you're including photography, I'm in.

I'm gonna sit this one out so that I can watch the whole process unfold. If I feel comfortable, I'll do the next one. ^_^

The previous challenges were open to all mediums. I don't see whay the new ones shouldn't be. The person hosting a particular challenge decides on erotic, non-erotic or both.

This isn't a challenge, sweetie. This is just discussion. If you go through the Artist's Corner you'll easily find a whole slew of the old challenges. There were many. Too many.

Not all the previous challenges were open to all mediums, but the majority were.. Just had to check.

As far as erotic goes, they can be erotic impressions, yes? Interpretive flowers, etc..

I don't remember any mediums being left out. Just a lot of mediums not being used. Which mediums are you refering to?

Interpretive was used several times. I don't see a problem there either.

That's two. And several of the previous challenges included erotic and non-erotic in the same challenge. I'm sure we'll see more of that if this gets off the ground again.

I understood that this thread wasn't a challenge, but I kinna wanted to stay in the background for the one you eventually decide on. I'm a bit nervous, and would definitely need more time than a week to do anything that I felt worthy to enter.

I'm thinking the new challenges should be once a month. The burn-out factor was far high with the previous series.

If that's a "yes" then we have three. Can I get a confirmation from the judges on this response?

THE AH thread is hosting an "ugly avatar" week and while I like my thumb being my avatar, I was thinking of something kind of picasso like...

It'll change to my halloween thumb next week.
