The cat tales thread

One of our neighbors raised German Shepherds. Invariably the "teenaged" pups would get out of their kennel and find our Siamese cat. A bit of fun would ensue and we'd find the poor thing cowered under our car. After grabbing the cat who was patrolling the area around the car so the dog couldn't escape, we were then able to coax the dog out from under the car. :cattail:

Cats are very much creatures of habit; they like their routines.

On Sunday, when I get home from church, I'll take off my church clothes, sometimes use the bathroom, then change into house clothes, at which time I'm expected to lie down on the bed for a while so that Doc can curl up on my chest and be cuddled for a while.

But yesterday, we came home and my husband had gotten to the head first and he stayed there for a long time, so I changed and went downstairs and got on the computer. Later on my husband and I wanted to conduct some business that really didn't require the help of a cat, but Doc must have been stewing all afternoon because he hadn't gotten his cuddle, so he jumped up on the bed and would not leave me alone. Even when my husband went downstairs and threw some kibble into the cats' bowls, which brought the other two running, Doc stayed put. We had to break out a pouch of Upstream Dream, which he absolutely adores and which we tend to save for when he needs to be medicated because we mix liquid medication into it, before he'd come down and quit bothering us.

I have an electric throw rug on top of my bed. Through the cold weather it was never turned off and always had a covering of cats. You could pick the really bad days by the number of cats. Five meant it was truly appalling.
Normally my crew don't get on, but in really rough weather four of them stake out corners of the rug and the fifth gets the middle. No one touches anyone else, but a truce is called (until Harry does something stupid anyway )

Ziba loves heating pads. When she had surgery to remove the blind cord she swallowed, the vet put a heating pad in her convalescence cage. She loved it. When we brought her home, she found my son's bed, which at the time had a heated mattress pad, crawled up onto it, and slept there for hours. Since then, as far as she's concerned, any heating pad brought into the house is HERS.

Yes, I have turned on the heating pad for her, although she doesn't deserve it. She's the cat who pisses on the floor.

So Ash has taken up a new trick. Usually at night I'll shut my bedroom door, however it sticks a little and usually don't shut it all the way, just till I'm sure it won't swing open itself. Anyways, now when my alarm goes off, I can pretty much guarantee within the next two minutes I'll hear a thud or two before the door goes flying open. She's figured out that if she hits the door, she can open it. Thus allowing her to say hi to the alarm [she makes a sound very similar to it] then perch herself on the bookcase to watch the world go by.

At the moment, we have 7. If you'll remember, I posted in another thread about the stray we took in. Well, she had 7, yes that's 7 kittens. We lost one of them about a week or so in... never was quite sure what happened.

So now, we have one momma cat, and six kittens that will be six weeks old this week. Getting close to time to find homes for the ones we aren't keeping. Originally, we were only keeping one kitten, but my hubby finally gave in to my daughter who had been begging him to keep one more. So, we will have three total. The kittens went mobile last week. Before that, they were content to stay curled up with each other in a box. Things have been quite interesting since they decided to start exploring, lol. They are really cute, but I'm ready to cut the number down to just what we are keeping.

It could be worse. She could decide that she needs to dance on your head at midnight. :D

lol oh if there is a cat that would do it...its her. When my dad stayed overnight during my cataract surgery it was hilarious. The first night, she woke him up while she was playing with his feet. He went to move his feet and she full on attacked them.
The second night, he awoke to her walking over his face and a mouthful of fur.

I'd really like to have our cat stop playing psycho when I'm in the shower.

Keep seeing the paw playing with the curtain.

LOL Ash, if someone leaves the door open, will actually join you in the shower. Ironically she doesn't mind getting wet if its of her own volition. However, try to give her a bath on purpose and it quickly becomes claw city.

Since her litter, food and water are all in our bathroom (yes, it is a huge bathroom) the door is usually left cracked.

After her psycho routine, she seems to love rubbing against my wet legs and leaving wet fur on my legs.

My cats are certain I need help with my bathing, but I evict them first. They wait right outside the door, just in case I might need help.

I have 2 beasties.

The boy, D.C. (That Darn Cat) is a solid 12+lbs, 2 1/2 years old, who is solid black with yellow eyes. He has his moments of enjoying being held only long enough to be tossed onto the bed following my morning shower as it means time to mark me with his scent instead of soap. He will rub, hold, grasp, bite and scratch to get me to smell like he wants me to smell.

I think he is part dog, as I can be kicked back watching a movie and he'll climb up in my lap and spin 3 times before laying down for lazy afternoons. If it's nap time, he'll join me on the bed, cuddling up to a foot for his pillow and we're down for a few hours. Now pre-girl, we'd play fetch. He'd bring me a stick, I'd toss it, he'd go get it and bring it to me. If he'd drop it out of reach, I'd motion reaching for it, then he'd grab it again and drop it closer and we'd start again. He doesn't mind baths, just absolutely hates being toweled off following.

When he doesn't get his way, he opens the cabinet doors, only to slam them shut, repeatedly. Shoot him with water you say, been there done that, he loved it and would do more to get the 'water treatment'. Hence the nerf dart gun, this did nothing but give him more toys to play with. So what scares him from trying to break the cabinet doors? The most evil and vile thing ever created, the pillow. He sees it, and he's looking for a new postal code.

The girl, Kitt (Kitt and Kaboodle) is 8lbs, 1 1/2 years old, a straight up Tortie with a tiger stripped tail, who has brown eyes. She despises being held, tolerates it just barely long enough to toss her onto the bed. She has taken to the morning shower routine of meowing at me until I'm out of the bathroom, then proceeds to rubbing against my legs as I'm trying to dry off, then will rub wet fur against dry legs. She doesn't mind the bath like the boy, and also hates to be toweled off following it.

She is very much a princess, thinks it's her way every time. When she wants to be petted, she's all for it, when she isn't, beware the fangs and claws. Now you can't feed her fast enough, have to open two cans of food and she is meowing her head off the entire time. If she sees the boy in my lap and she's in a mood, she will climb up and step on him before laying down on top of him. She gets highly offended when he attacks her for doing this as if it is her right to step on him. Now when it's cold enough, she'll step on the pillow beside me face and nuzzle me to lift the covers so she can climb under and snuggle up for the night. When she is doing something wrong, just mention her name and say, "No" and she stops in her tracks.

Now both will see me off to work in the morning, and greet me at the door in the evening. They have a pretty good sense of when the alarm is due to go off and they'll start making noise before it so I'm pretty much awake before it goes off as they don't like the sound of the thing. That kinda sums up my beasties.
