Matilla could tell that her Lady was not happy. She had been her maid long enough to know that for sure.
Princess Dhryna Kyrie Kree of Avarey was there against her will. Not that she had any say in it. Being a princess, she knew that her sole purpose in life was to be wedded, to cement relations between two worlds (said new planet being Nexus), and to provide heirs to said new alliance. Nothing else. She had no say in such.
Her entire life to this point was to remain chaste and yet, upon her arrival to her betrothed she was to be wedded, bedded and bredded by a toad of a man named Snigford Ramus. The man was a toad!! His big, beefy hands frequently flopped around his large, overweight body. His face was toady, with a large underbite and huge flat nose that looked like he had run into a wall. Really! Their children will most likely be just as hideous looking. She shuddered.
She didn't have any choice. She was called from classes to attend her parents where upon her father, the King, announced her betrothal to her, allowed her to kiss his ring in "gratitude", then had her escorted into the waiting space ship where her maid awaited with her trousseau and a number of guards to prevent her from attempting an escape. Her father knew her well.
She knew she had to go to Nexus. No more classes and fun. She was 19, and her life was now officially over.
She looked at herself in the mirror. Funny, she didn't look almost dead. She had sky blue eyes - unusual for her planet and certainly striking when paired with her long red hair that hung in heavy ringlets down her back ending just above the swell of her hips. Her complexion was fair and clear with fine features. She stood at just about 5'6" which made her of average height on her planet. But this made her a bit taller than her future husband.
She stood there letting Matilla finish the preparation so she could attend dinner with the captain. She knew her father - she had no chance of bribery with the captain.
The com interrupted Matilla in her preparations.
"Please inform Her Lady Kree that dinner will be delayed until we can determine if we have a problem. "
