OOC: Sorry but this is a closed thread, and the players know who they are! I invite you to read along, and comments are always welcome!
How I had gotten him to meet me in Boston's Logan airport I'll never know! At first he said he had obligations to fulfill, but I managed to break down his resolve when I told him I really wanted to see him - and a few descriptive ideas as to what I would like to do with him didn't hurt, either!
And now, there he was, stepping out of the tunnel from the plane that had just arrived from Atlanta. He was just as he had described himself - a little taller than average, dark hair, well-trimmed beard. Not looking nearly the age he said he was, but rather looking much younger. He stepped into the waiting area, his eyes scanning the chairs and people, trying to see where I was. I dashed out from behind a column, and before he knew what had happened, I was in his arms, my hands on his face, my lips giving him an exuberant kiss. He seemed startled at first, then a smile lit his face as he realized what had just happened.
"Chele! There you are! So tell me what all this secrecy is about, will ya?"
"Nope, uh-huh. It's a surprise, Ari! And, you will be happy to learn I'm not alone in this endeavor! C'mon!"
I grabbed his hand and began to hurry through the airport, Ariosto barely able to keep up while adjusting his luggage. As we made our way through the parking lot, I walked with confidence to the Expedition, and we climbed inside.
"Chele, tell me -"
"NO! Ari, you will just have to trust me on this one, okay? You will love it, believe me!"
I heard him sigh as I fired up the engine, and pulled from the airport parking lot. Crossing the bridge and winding my through Boston traffic (YUCK! But the city is beautiful!), I eventually wind my way into the countryside, and soon we are in New Hampshire and then Vermont.
The countryside passes by us as a winter wonderland. Surrounded by the magic of nature, the beauty of what snow can do. We eventually came to the Canadian border, and slowed to get through customs. After speaking to the authorities about the nature of our visit, we were on Canadian soil and heading slightly north west.
"Okay, Chele, I've been quiet for the past few hours, but you didn't say anything about Canada! I want to know what is going on! Please?"
"Ari, you are so impatient! Really, you will like this. And don't you think it is beautiful here? Gosh, look at the beauty of it!"
"Yes, I agree that it is beautiful, but I want to know where I'm going!"
"We are heading to a little out of the way place. It's got everything we need - nice comfortable bed, huge fireplace, lots of food, fine wine, good music. You'll love it!"
I felt his eyes on me, almost glaring. Laughing, I thought of what was in store for him! I'd love to see his face when we got there!
Driving through several small towns, and then going out into further remote areas, I turned off the main highway. Stopping the huge SUV, I put it into 4 wheel drive for the last few miles of the trip. The road we were on was never plowed and was virtually impossible to drive without a 4x4. Slowly, in the middle of a clearing filled with snow, a fair sized cabin came into view. Lights in the windows and smoke from the chimney gave it a cheerful, welcoming glow against the cold ice and snow that surrounded it.
Pulling up and into the garage, I shut off the engine, and smiled at Ari in deepening gloom.
"Well, we're here! Let's grab the luggage and get inside, huh? Got a surprise waiting for you!"
"CHELE!"
"Can it, Ari! You'll find out when we get inside," I laughed at him.
Climbing down, I go to the back of the SUV to start unloading.
