Growing up in a small town was rough sometimes, but there was one time of the year that the town came alive, when the rodeo was in town... It wasn't just any rodeo, it was the biggest one in any of the surrounding states, tourists came from all over to watch and participate. Kali was just looking forward to there being something to do for a change. She had gone away to school but unforeseen circumstances had brought her home to the dusty old town.

She finished her outfit with a cowboy hat on top of her long dark hair. Her skin was a golden glow from being in the sun helping on a large family farm most days. She wore a jean skirt and tank top with cowboy boots... Your typical rodeo outfit. Tonight was Saturday, there was only one night left after tonight before the town "turned back into a pumpkin" she grabbed her keys and headed to meet a few friend to watch the rodeo. As they all entered the arena she couldn't help but to check out the Cowboys all straddling the fences waiting their turn.... There was just something about a bull rider....

I was atop the fence post waiting for my turn on the bull I had drawn to ride in this round. I swept back my dark brown hair and turned and I noticed a group of girls entering the arena. One stood out in particular, a cowgirl with long dark hair and boots to match.

I nudged the rider next to me and said "Now that is the one that I would like to ride."

My name was called for the next ride and I hopped down to make my way over to the chute and climbed up the outside as the bull flared his nostrils and began to rattle the wooden rails holding him until I could climb atop him.

Kali and the girls walked over to the side to watch as the next rider was getting set to ride. He was a good looking guy and Kali's attention was drawn to him. She watched as the bull rattled the chute as the rider prepared himself for a long 8 seconds. She Didn't realize until after the fact that she had been holding her breath.. The bull was intense and Kali had no idea who would be crazy enough to want to ride on top of it.

I climbed over the rail and settled on top of the bull. I would the rope around my hand and signaled that I was ready. The chute opened and the bull leapt out and began bucking back and forth. I held on with my right hand and kicked my legs back and forth to try to stay balanced. The bull began to spin around and I heard a loud pop as the rope broke.

I was flying through the air spinning head over my feet. I tried to land on my side and felt my shoulder hit the ground first. I managed to look up and see that the bull had been herded over to the exit gate. I felt my shoulder go numb and managed to sit up and wait for help.

I looked up and saw the group of girls from earlier watching. I saw the girl with the dark hair from earlier and gave her a thumbs up to indicate that I was okay.

her heart was racing as she watched the rider tossed like a doll and then when he landed on the ground she bit her lower lip until he looked into the crowd and gave the thumbs up, it was funny- it looked like he was giving it right to her. She smiled, finally relaxing. "That was crazy!" She said to her friend as they made their way over to grab beers and watch the remainder of the rodeo.

I went to the medical area to get checked out and found out that I had a bruised hip and shoulder and that my rodeo was over for the night.

I decided to get a beer and watch the rest of the rodeo. I went up to the bar and was texting on my phone letting all my friends know that I was okay. I did not see the line in front of me and bumped into the person standing in front of me.

I saw that it was the girl with the long dark hair. I smiled at her and said "sorry, I did not see you". I began to wipe off the dust on her skirt wear I had bumped into her. I did not realize that I was wiping her butt.

I turned red and said " the least I can do is buy you a beer".

She was next up in the beverage line when she felt someone ram into her, she turned to give an annoyed response when she realized who it was, "oh- umm... It's alright, seems like everyone is bumping into everyone, but I wouldn't turn down a free beer." She felt him brushing her ass and she laughed at him when he realized what he was doing, "it's all good. Don't worry about it." He was even better looking up close! "You alright?- I mean, that was a nasty ride you had earlier."

She laughed at my embarrassment as she asked me if I was alright and I replied "Yeah, I'm okay, just a bruised hip and shoulder. But the rodeo is over for me."
The Bartender took my order of two beers and we sat down at a table and I held out my hand and introduced myself, "Hi, I'm Donnie Brisco and I am bull rider, among other things."

Smiling I accept the beer, "well good, makes it a better time when I know someone didn't suffer a serious injury for my entertainment." She took a seat at a table with him. "My name is Kali... Ballerina... It's nice to meet you."

Donnie

She introduced herself and I smiled at her name and replied "You certainly don't look like a Ballerina, not that I am complaining mind you. So Kali, what is there to do around here on a Saturday night? Besides watching the rodeo of course."

She laughed, "not much. The rodeo is the most excitement we get thru here... We have a bar/dance "club" that plays country music that is about it... We are pretty lame in these parts."

She laughed as she told me about how there wasn't much to do around these parts.
I smile at her and said 'That sounds terrific. Traveling on the Rodeo tour, we don't get much of a chance to go out. We are usually stuck at the hotel or at the arena.
Would you like to go dancing?"

She smiled and took a sip from her beer, "you're up for dancing tonight?" She smiled and shrugged her shoulders, "sure. That would be fun."

She accepted my invitation for dancing and I told her "let me get out of these dusty clothes and grab a shower. I should be back in about 30 minutes."

I finished my beer and took off for the back area of the rodeo to change clothes and shower.

I rejoined my friends to watch a little more and filled them in on what had happened. When she saw him return she let her friends know and they all looked over and were elbowing her telling her how lucky she was to snag a good looking guy who wanted to go dancing.

I made my way back to the bar area and saw Kali with her friends. I went to the bar and got two more beers and sat down next to her. I offered her a beer and said we could go now or stay and hang out with her friends and watch the rest of the rodeo.

She accepted the beer and took a sip. They agreed to finish their beers and then duck out, that way they caught most of the show but avoided the crowds as they were trying to leave.

We finished our beers and I followed her out to her car and got into the passenger side.

I smiled at her and laughingly said " okay Kali, go ahead and take me for a ride".

I laughed at his comment, "hey- I think you've done enough riding for the night." J smiled as I drove to the bar. It was bound to get busy since all the country fans were already out at the rodeo. She parked the car and smiled at him- "you ready?"

They got out of the car and I led him inside, there was a fairly large amount of people inside already, the music was playing, people were dancing and the booze was flowing. I grabbed his hand as I maneuvered us thru the crowd to an area that wasn't as crowded.

She drove out to the bar and led me by the hand towards the back. The bar was already crowded despite the rodeo still going on.

We found a table at the back and I ordered two beers for us.

As I sipped my beer I smiled, "so when do you leave town?... I know it's hard to try to have meaningful relationships when you spend so much time away... I leave in a week and will be gone for two months...

She told me that she would be leaving town and be gone for two months. I told her that the rodeo finished up on Sunday night and then we head out for the next rodeo on Monday morning. And yes it is hard to have any relationship with anyone who isn't in the rodeo during the touring season.

I drank my beer at her and said " so that would mean we wouldn't being seeing each other again for the foreseeable future".
