Griffin Porter closed the thick oak door to one of his only real secrets deep along the back wall of his basement of his rather elaborate home. He picked up the thick Masterlock and slid it into the clasp that would add a visible symbol to others to steer clear of this place. As he went to set the lock, the door bell of his front door chimed and he dropped the lock in place, but walked away to greet his guest, oblivious he hadn't actually locked that door.
He tugged on the blue pinstripe suit cuffs as he reached the top floor. The catering team that he had hired for his party he had planned was busy going about their plans preparing tables filled with a variety of seafood, steak, and chicken buffets. Tonight was a very special night. He worked for the Pal Alto Marketing Company and was the regional manager for district 12 of the Continental US, which consisted of Washington State, Oregon, and Idaho states. He led a team of 25 sales men and women who had been scattered throughout all three states. During the last quarterly meeting the CEO had had with the entire company, she had announced that District 12 had closed out the most sales bringing in the biggest company profit, for the first time ever beating out District 11 which had been all of California and District 1 which was all of New York State. It had come as a shock to everyone to hear the news and so to celebrate, he had invited every one from his team to his home to enjoy a good meal, booze, and to allow him an opportunity to give out a few awards of his own including the esteemed top sales person of the quarter.
Sharon Gentry, his own personal executive secretary opened the door to greet some of the team as they walked in! He had hired a couple of aides to collect coats and hats and provide refreshments while dinner was being prepared.
The first couple to walk into the room as Paul Wiseman, one of his Seattle salesmen who walked in with his wife Nadine Wiseman. He smiled and walked over to the couple saying, "Paul! Welcome! Nadine... aren't you absolutely stunning! Come on in! You both know the layout, help yourselves." He shook his hand and hugged her as they smiled, offered their coats to the aids and headed inside.
Guest after guest began to arrive. He had even hired two valets to park the guest's cars which also added to the the ambiance. He had been promoted into this position making 7 figures a year because he had been one of the hardest working salesmen in the industry for the last 10 years. He was quite happy to welcome his team in one couple at a time. Music began to play out by the pool, conversation and festivities began to fill the air and everything felt... right.
He was about to turn to head towards his guest, when he heard the door chime once more. He turned to see Sharon go to open the door...
