Richard Slade is a wealthy businessman based in New York City. He started out in real estate, but after becoming intrigued by computers, returned to college to learn more about them. He eventually transfered to MIT, where he earned degrees in software engineering and computer science. During and after his schooling, he completed a number of internships, eventually gaining a job as Junior Programmer for the New York branch of Microsoft. However, after several years, Richard decided to strike out on his own.
In 1999, at age 42, Richard Slade created Sladesoft. It was originally just a crew of ten progammers working out of an old abandoned coffee shop, but over the last ten years, it grew to be a major local company. Now they create software for many companies in and around the New York area, ranging from security programs to user interfaces to business tools and related software. It started out with ten staffmembers, but now that number has increased to about 300.
Richard has two daughters, both in college. I need someone to play them. I will play Richard, as well as a young programmer. I need someone to play my char's best friend and partner. The idea is that the two daughters and the two programmers end up together.
The two male chars are students from MIT, recently graduated. In total, 16 graduates were accepted into an internship at Sladesoft. They formed two man teams, and the idea was that the eight teams would compete on various projects for three months, and on the first Monday in September, one team -- two programmers -- would be offered fulltime jobs, while the others would be sent on their way. Our chars landed the jobs because of their brilliant design -- the DAC software. Digital Avatar Companion lets you create an avatar and give it one of a hundred voices. Once the avatar is designed, he becomes a sort of living PDA. He can communicate with you from your desktop, laptop, and cellphone, if you choose to install him on them. He helps you remember events, guides you though various problems, and can even contact 911 in an emergency. His AI is so good that Richard Slade personally congratulated our chars and welcomed them to the company. In fact, he was so impressed he greenlighted a more advanced version of the software and put the two as the project leaders with their own staff of fifteen.
It is now late October 2009. Our chars have been working away on their new project for nearly two months. The boss adores these guys, but how will he react when he discovers that they were flirting with his daughters at a Halloween party?
So, yeah, the story can start off with it being Halloween. Our chars have been working almost every day since they became project leaders, and Richard orders them to take Halloween weekend off and just relax and have fun. I looked at my calendar, and it says October 31st 2009 is a Saturday. So maybe we can start the story with it being Saturday morning, the girls run into the guys at a Starbucks, think they are cute, and invite them to the Halloween party later that night at their sorority?

Kevin's parents, Nathan and Samantha, divorced when he was very young. Nathan was a high ranking Army officer and moved away after the divorce, eventually landing a permanent assignment at the Pentagon in DC. Kevin has always had a strained relationship with his father, who would constantly badger the boy about his video games, comics, and action figures, and how he needed to grow up.
Lucky for Kevin, he got along with his stepfather wonderfully. A few years after the divorce, Samantha married Victor, a coworker of hers -- they were both journalists for the New York Times. To Kevin's great delight, Victor loved video games, comics, and action figures too. The two spent a lot of time together, and Kevin's high school buddies said he was the funniest and coolest stepdad ever.
Kevin was a very bright kid, and graduated high school at the top of his class. He earned a scholarship to MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), where he spent four years. After receiving high honors and a degree in software programming, he and his best friend went on to work for Sladesoft after successfully completing a summer internship.
It's up to the person who plays Kevin's friend whether or not they knew each other prior to MIT.
