Joe Quick is an up and coming lawyer at your father's major law firm. As I have been there for a few years we have met from time to time and flirted a bit. Mindful of your father however, I never explore how far to take it. Your father has taken a liking to me and in many ways views me as the son he never had since his only children are you and your younger sister. He will often talk around your house about me and the "flavor of the week" that I am dating at that time.

This weekend is the annual cookout at your family's summer home and I know I will be running into you and once again we will be back together flirting.

As I pack a weekend bag and load it into my new navy blue Ferrari 458 Spider I am distracted by the noise of my cell phone constantly going off. It appears the news of me breaking up with my girlfriend of two months has gotten around to my friends. Texts of "wtf?", "she was so hot", "thought this was meant to be" flood my phone, some serious and some just trying to be funny. I lock my house and back out of the driveway putting the top down to enjoy the sunshine.

Looking smart in a light blue button down shirt, khaki shorts, tan loafers and gold Oliver Peoples aviator sunglasses I look down at the large Panerai watch on my left wrist and realize I am going to be late, as usual.

The name Jesse Storm should be synonymous to law genius because that is what my father is. Unfortunately, I'm not as good as my father expected me to be, and neither did I take the profession he wanted for me. I don't want to be a lawyer, so I didn't become one. My sister did so he is much more proud of her than he is of me because I became a nerdy programmer...at least behind my desk. Beyond my desk, I'm a different girl altogether, always looking like one of those party girls who have fun nights out at the club.

And I honestly hate clubs. Conversation was impossible and everyone just rubs bodies together no matter how much distance they try to create.

My sister, Anna, is very talented, but also kind of a slut, so I don't understand how my father still prefers her over me. I am doing very well in building up my own empire apart from him, thank you very much. But more importantly, how the hell can he prefer Joe over me? I'm the daughter. I mean, really. The only thing my father hasn't done is to erect a monument in the middle of the garden in honor of Joe. Which might up be soon, considering that he's now inviting the guy to a family cookout.

I'm sure Anna will be gushing over him again and try to get him in bed with her--and I honestly kind of get why she's doing it because, let's face it, he's hot. But that's not my business. They're the co-workers, though Anna's in the lower ranks still learning the ropes, so she can't really make a move in the office. They have more things in common than Joe and I do.

I check the time on my computer and sigh. Nope. I am not going to hear the end of it if I'm late. I remove my glasses and put on a pair of contacts. I remove the hasty bun on my head and let my hair cascade beyond my shoulders. I look into my closet and change out of my sweaters and into a pair of shorts and a tank top, before finally heading out of my room into the living room.

"Jesse," my father, Rick, calls out from taking stuff out from the refrigerator, "He's going to be here any moment. You best be at your best behavior."

"I'm leaving him to Anna. She likes him," I say following him out to the garden and helping him carry some of the stuff.

"No. You're the older girl, you get married first."

I roll my eyes in response. Really? This again? I should have bought that condo unit in Florida and moved out.

After the long drive from the city to your family's summer home on the ocean I pull my Ferrari into the driveway, the sound of the engine immediately announcing my presence. I notice the vehicles of several of the senior partners in the driveway and am relaxed that at least I won't be the only work person here.

I park my car at the front of the house and step out, my 6'2, muscular 210lbs frame filling out my outfit nicely as my tanned skin looks as though I have already been out on the beach. I grab my weekend bag and the bottles of wine I brought as a gift and head to the house.

I chat with several of the senior partners who are just getting there. Predictably they are all in their 50's, white hair with wives who are the definition of old money. Heavy set and dripping in jewels. The men all portly and white haired or balding, driving their sensible Mercedes sedans.

I arrive at the front door where the housekeeper opens the door for me, I hand her my bag and thank her for opening the door. I nod and smile to others I know as I head to the kitchen with my gift of wine.

Entertaining all of the cookout's guests has always been the part of being his daughter, so a little respite every now and then is preferable. I politely tear myself away from an aunt and uncle and headed into the kitchen to get a breather.

It's these times that I envy my very young cousins who have nothing else to do but play and have fun. At least, I don't really have to impress the senior partners like Anna is doing. I don't need their stupid promotions.

I get a glass of water and as soon as I gulp it all down I see the person I hoped had an accident and can't come.

And he is drop dead gorgeous.

"You're late," I grunt, folding my arms beneath my breasts. "Dad's waiting for you outside."

I smile a cocky smile towards you. "I'm not late Jesse, I'm fashionable" I say holding up my gifts "plus I brought wine!" I say walking over to you.

"Good to see you again, you look well" I say, unsure if I should hug you or extend a hand for a hand shake. We had always flirted a bit, it came off more of a back and forth bickering but when you had a couple drinks it showed that it was more flirty. Your sister on the other hand wasn't nearly as covert.

I raise my eyebrow at the wine and take it from you, unable to resist brushing your hand as I twist the bottle in my hands. "This should be a 2011 Leeuwin Estate Chardonnay or you're going to disappoint me greatly."

My eyes flicker toward you once and stop myself. I can't be flirting with you! Ugh! What's wrong with me?

And why the hell do you have to be such a delicious eye candy?

"You don't think I know you by now?" I say smiling, my body electrified at your touch. "I wouldn't want to disappoint you Jesse" I say turning the label to show you your favorite vintage. "Nothing but the best".

I look over your shoulder and out the window into the beautifully landscaped yard. "Looks busy out there, what are the chances I can escape now?" I say looking deep into your eyes, half joking and half serious

"Good." How the hell did you know? Are you really paying attention to me? Goodness! The man has a girlfriend, Jesse. Get a hold of yourself!

My eyes catch yours and for a moment I don't speak. Ugh! Stop looking at me. I can't think straight. I realize my heart is beating fast and I cover it with a smirk. "You are not going anywhere until dad sees you. He's going to kill me if I keep you all to myself."

Which is not true at all.

But I walk back into the garden, wine in hand signalling to father that you're here. His eyes quickly brighten as he leaves my mother's mother to talk to you. As if you are his long lost son. Or at least replacing the one he lost due to mother's miscarriage of their fist baby.

I follow you out to the yard, loving how amazing your ass looks in those shorts. We come to the group around your father.

"Mr. Storm" I say shaking his hand until he pulls me into a hug, knowing I call him Rick all day at the office. "My apologies for being tardy but Jesse here was keeping me in the kitchen, quizzing me on wine facts" I say smiling over his shoulder at you.

As we part the embrace I look over the yard "lovely party and home you have here!" I say standing shoulder to shoulder with him.

"Please, Joe." Father claps you at the back. "You know you can call me Rick. And I'm really glad you're getting along with her.

"Lovely party and home you have here!"

"Well, I do try to keep things as comfortable as possible" He clears his throat. "Anyway, you didn't bring your girlfriend? I don't see her."

I glare at my dad. One minute he was pushing me to you, the next, he asks for your girlfriend. How could he push me when he's obviously aware you have someone else? I shrug and take a bottle of soda from the table, waving at some of my cousins who are eager to play at the beach.

"Ah Rick you know how that goes, more style than substance with Rachel" I say patting him in the back. "Just so damned hard finding a good girl who is both pretty and smart" I say as I subconsciously look at you.

"Oh well, that's what this is for!" I say holding up a bottle of wine. "Shall we open it?" I say grabbing two glasses.

They broke up? They BROKE UP?! Great! Now I don't have an excuse to keep away from him. Or...maybe not. "Um, I'll pass. My cousins are calling me out to swim with them. You guys catch up, okay?"

"Jesse," dad gives a warning glare but I ignore it and run away as fast as I can to both my cousins who are only too happy to see me play with them, now that I'm busy with my own business and rarely have time for them. I remain in my shorts and tank for as long as they play in the sand.

As I build sand castles with them, I can't help but steal glances at you as Anna walks over to both of you. I don't want to admit I'm a bit jealous at the sight, but I do feel it. I growl at myself and focus on the sandcastles we're building.

"Your daughter the engineer" I say to Rick as he and I watch you build sand castles. I talk with your dad about some work stuff as your mom comes over. She also asks about Rachel who had come with me to the last work dinner. The two had hit it off. "Oh no that's terrible!" You hear your mom say as I tell her that we had broke up. In typical fashion your mom is loud and the life of the party. She seems genuinely sad that I had broken up with her. Your mom desperately wants me married off.

As we talk your sister comes walking up and touches my shoulder. "Hey Anna, good to see you" I say as she kisses my cheek.

I try to ignore all of you, but even as I talk to my cousins, I can't help but eavesdrop on your conversation.

"So," Anna siddles up to you and hugs your arm pressing it between her breasts, "You've broken up. Looking for a new girlfriend. You know there are so many lining up for you. Your options are so unlimited." She giggles.

I grimace for a moment but quickly smiled at my cousins again as they tug at me to swim with them. I nod and strip off my tank and shorts into my bikini underneath. I let my cousins tug me to the water not wanting to hear more of my sister's flirting.

"Many choices but not much quality" I say looking down at my arm and seeing Anna's cleavage from her firm, perky breasts rising out of her tank top. I look up so as not to cause a scene. "What's new with you?" I ask Anna as my eyes can't help but gaze over to you and your bikini. Amazed at how refined yet sexy you are.

Anna frowns seeing you look my way. She touches your cheek with a finger to get you to look at her again. "So, what do you mean by quality? Do you mean smart and funny?" she bats her eyelashes at him, hoping that he remembers how much more than a pretty face she is.

"Yeah, tell us, Joe," Rick says. "What kind of girl do you like?"

"I still think Rachel is such a waste, too," my mother shakes her head.

"Geez Rick, put me right on the spot there don't you?" I say taking a drink as we all get a good laugh.

My face blushing a bit I look off into the distance at nothing in particular "I suppose what most guys want, a pretty girl who is smart, who will challenge me with her wit and keep me on my toes. Beautiful on the inside and out, not just some swimsuit model who is all looks but no brains. Someone who enjoys life and parties now but who could also raise kids some day..." I trail off as I catch sight of your amazing body in the water in the distance "....you know, I'm not too picky" I say as we all laugh again "not too bad huh? As a lawyer I could have pled the 5th"

The kids got hungry and I get out of the water with them, rinsing and drying off as best as I could before wearing my tank and shorts and headed to the grills. With my bathing suit still wet, it makes small patches on my shirt and shorts outlining my bikini inside. I can't help but overhear the conversations once more.

Father laughed at something I don't know. "That's why I'm your boss, Joe, I can make you do what I want no matter how good you are. Which reminds me," he paused seeing me and I wince. "Jesse, join us. Liam and Carter can play on their own."

I sigh and follow him. My sister and I are raised to obey our parents, and even now, we do. Not because we're scared of them, but because we respect them. And for some reason, they seem to like the Italian and Asian values of family over everything else. Which is actually pretty good if I come to think about it. I say goodbye to my cousins and head over to you guys and take my place at the only spot available--beside you.

"Anyway, as I was saying," father continued, "I want to offer you a chance at becoming junior partner. I know you're young and you haven't really completed the hours yet, but even the rest of the board thinks you're ready. What do you say? Do well, and you can even make senior in maybe three or four years."

"Oh, that's great, Joe!" Anna hugged him, pressing herself against him and I can't help but stick my tongue out in disgust as mother hands me the wine. Why don't mom and dad ever make her stop? I feel so embarrassed for her right now. I did try to stop her a few times growing up, but all I got was flak and we just drifted apart as sisters.

"Well, looks like your reputation precedes you, Joe." Mother lifts her wine to him in a toast and we all follow.

I drink the wine and close my eyes savoring it. Definitely what the doctor ordered. At least the wine made it worth going into this circle.

I stand in the middle of the group surprised by the announcement but partially knowing it might be coming. "Rick I don't know what to say" I say standing the circle looking at this happy family together "other than THANK YOU!" I say raising my glass in a toast.

"Thanks Anna!" I say gently squeezing her as she hugs me. Still a bit stunned I stand with a huge smile on my face, proud of my accomplishment and proud to be so loved by this family.

"You know I want to thank you all" I say feeling a bit sentimental at the moment. "When my parents died when I was in high school and I went to live with my aunt and uncle I never thought I'd have a close family again" I say as I look you each in the eye. "But, and I hope I'm not being too presumptive, you all have really made me feel at home here" I say as I toast your family.

"Joe what can I say" your dad says "you've worked your way into all our hearts, just in different ways" your dad says smiling. "And I'm thinking, we are all going to the carribean in a couple months, I'd like you to come" he says putting his arm around your mom. "What do you think girls?" He says looking at you and Anna.

Father had been talking about the promotion for months, so I'm not surprised. What surprises me is the carribean offer and I cough almost spitting out the wine. "Wait, what?"

"Oh, come on, Jesse," Mother said. "Lighten up. It's just like having a big brother along. At least your father and I don't have to fret about the guys who always hang around you."

"Her. Not me," I correct with a little bitterness. "I'm the plague people avoid."

"Well, it doesn't matter what you are," Anna says and turns to you, "You're coming with us. Daddy's orders."

"Well, I'm not coming." I say. "I have a contract to finish. My deadline's coming up and the Pentagon wants to see results. Just send me photos."

"Jesse!" Father bellows.

"You always did say your work is mobile," Anna says. "Isn't that why you love it?"

Sometimes, I just really hate my sister. But wait. What am I so hesitant about? Anna and Joe looks good together. And the thought is twisting my insides. I can't like him, can I? But even if I do, I can't like him. I'll only be another notch on his bedpost and I don't want to be a statistic.

"Great then!" Mother says. "While you're at it, stay with us for the weekend. You and Rick can go to the office together on Monday."

"Well thank you Mrs Storm, that sounds like a wonderful invitation!" I say smiling, "I actually have no plans the whole weekend so I think I will take you up on that" I say handing her another glass of wine.

I look over at your sister "quite the argument you made to get your sister to come along" I say playfully pushing her shoulder, "you might just be a good lawyer some day!" I say as we all laugh a bit, all except you.

I smile looking over at you "the pentagon huh?" I say in regards to your project. "Working on some top secret project so that you can sky on all of us?" I say with our eyes locking. My mesmerized by your amazingly beautiful eyes

Anna giggles leaning her head on your shoulder. "I aim to take over dad one day. I'm set up to have my name in the firm in a few years. It'll be great! The two of us up in senior partnership. Of course, I'll be managing partner."

I really don't know why everyone is so into law. It's so convoluted. Nothing is right or wrong. The law is supposed to defend the right and punish the wrong, but apparently, as I experienced first hand, it defends those who have money and connections enough to be scot free.

I'm surprised that you actually paid attention to what I said and, unlike the rest of my family, you look interested. "No. It's open, actually. They and three of the top banks in the world funded me for a security system that's supposedly uncrackable. Still working on the kinks in the connections. If I do this right, this is going to put me on top of the list of digital security. Then I'd really have to get an office." I smile, confined in my own world.

"Managing partner huh?" I say to Anna "I better start being really nice to you then since you will be my boss!" I say chuckling.

I turn to you "Pentagon and three of the top banks, sounds like you are on your way to success and big money!" I say smiling at you "good for you, I always knew you were smart. You deserve it" I say taking a drink "and let me know if you need office space, I have friends in commercial real estate" (my last girlfriend Rachel used to sell commercial real estate)

At that your father calls the party together since the food is ready. "Well then, where to sit?" I say out loud to no one in particular

Success and big money. That's what they all think I'm doing this for. No. I'm doing this because I love creating challenges, cracking it then, creating something better. Doing it for money is just a bonus. I already have a trust fund and a host of financial investments that will set me for life even if it means that I lose the company.

I sit myself near my dad's place and Anna leans over to whisper to me. "I'll give Joe to you tonight. Have fun."

"What? I don't--"

"Look. You've never had a guy in your life. Go have some fun."

"I already have!" I hiss as my dad continues to talk about how thankful he is to everyone and how blessed he is.

"Being fucked by a dildo at Marie's bridal shower doesn't count. And you're no lesbian so that doubly doesn't count." She looks at you. "Look at how he keeps on glancing at you. How he flirts with you. He finds you attractive and i know you think he looks hot."

"Same goes for you. But that doesn't mean I'll be doing the same things you do."

Anna rolls her eyes and takes your hand and sits you beside me. "I have something to say to our dear cousins. Keep him company, will you sis?" She winks and I groan inwardly.

"Well now I feel pawned off like some cheap piece of meat!" I say smiling sitting down next to you. I take the napkin off the table and put it neatly on my lap "I trust the wine was to your liking?" I say to you.

"You know all kidding aside, I would love to hear more about your project" I say passing a dish of fruit salad as I casually glance over to your sister. Making sure she isn't around to cause trouble. "Provided it isn't too classified!" I say with a smile as our hands touch passing plates.
