The Bordelli vineyards are the California’s oldest family owned and continuously operated winery. Founded in 1883 by Frank Bordelli with just 48 acres and was turned into a 3000 acre fifth generation run winery selling top notch vines all over the world.
Two weeks ago on a dreaded dark night, a plane went down into the ocean and upon it were Randolph and Grace Bordelli leaving behind one daughter as well as a son to take over the business immediately without notice.
Jillian just had her twenty-fifth birthday and was in awe, she sat down behind the big mahogany desk and looked over the paperwork that was tossed before her by the lawyers, and signed where she needed to. Jillian sighed as she choked back the tears and pushed the pile of papers back to Preston the family lawyer, as she reached up and wiped her tears away.
“I have no clue what I’m doing Preston, I can’t manage this all by myself, but I know I have no choice. Two weeks ago, I was just daddy’s assistance in training, I have so much to learn, I-I’m not ready for this responsibility, but I know he isn’t either, he loves the military, I’d hate to see him leave his career.”
“Jillian, listen to me, I can help you, I do have some winery knowledge, I can help you get through the roughest parts. As far as your brother goes that would be up to him to make that choice.”
Preston looked across the mahogany desk at Jillian. She was young, bright, responsible, and charismatic as well as one of the wealthiest females now available on the market due to the death if her parents. Her hair was long and deep jet black, it flowed freely around her face as well as cascaded down her shoulders and back. Her eyes normally held such a bright sparkle, her build; you could tell she worked out daily. Jillian was almost every white collar mans dream and a few blue. Preston knew if he really wanted to land a wife she would indeed be ripe for the picking now and could easily make and take him to the things he wished for and wanted.
“I just don’t want him stuck here like daddy was, no life but this winery and that’s all. I mean I’m the oldest and it’s more my responsibility.”
Preston wanted her to keep thinking that with her younger brother out of the way the winery and Jillian could easily be plucked like a freshly bloomed flower in spring. “I agree Jillian; let me help you and we’ll struggle through this together okay?”
Jillian nodded her head, though the winery was flourishing, and the help could be used she decided to not call upon her brother, heck Jillian wasn’t even about to tell Preston that her younger brother was going to return before he signed on for his next tour of duty, he was actually due back in three days.
The meeting broke up and Jillian went to work, she looked up and watched Preston’s car go along the long drive till he was out of sight from her view from the office window. Jillian began to familiarize herself with what her father had taught her, trying to make sense out of all the bullshit paperwork that was piled upon the desk since the death of her parents.
Jillian grabbed the phone as it rang; she sat back in the leather chair and sighed as she heard the operator make the connection for the overseas call. “Hello brother dear, yes I’m okay its just a lot of work, too much for me honestly I really have no clue what I’m doing. I mean I do but everything was just tossed at me…us and I’m still feeling lost without Mom and Dad.” Jillian wiped the tears from her bright green eyes as she closed her eyes.” I keep waiting to wake up and walk into the office and see daddy sitting behind his desk like normal, and my mind knows it isn’t ever going to happen again, but my heart wishes differently.”
