The better I feel the story is, the worse the votes - help!

Your choice of category is the main problem... Hard crowd to please in reluctant and sometimes lesbian.. especially if you're male.. as I found out.. the hard way...

Ditto

A male writing a Lesbian story is suicide especially with a handle like mine. If I write another one it will be under a different handle.

A couple of suggestions to increase your votes:

1. Make the stories longer than one page.
2. Build up the characters for at least a half a page without a sex scene.

Start there...Slickman

I see what you mean

I see what you mean, I've just looked at the top votes section and they all seem to be romantic stories and chapterised (if that's a word). I guess I'm going to have to do a long romantic story if I want to see any scores over 4.5.

Thanks TXRad and Slickman.

Write to please yourself :rose:

But I guess one of the things I've learned on this site is that there are generally 2 types of stories - stroke and those with a plot & character development. Both are geared toward their own readership, but readers of the stories that fall into the latter category seem to vote a bit more.

Keep writing

Deep Inside

I read Deep Inside and I will have to say that while it was dark and disturbing, it was also very well written. I voted it a 5. Things that make people a bit uncomfortable can be very well written and imaginative as well, as your story is.

Unfortunately, whether someone is comfortable with it and can immerse him or herself into the story and identify with the characters is also one of the things that drives most readers' votes. If you don't like a story because it makes you squeamish or uncomfortable, that's OK, but not voting at all is better than voting down a well-written story that is outside your comfort zone.

I've had the same reaction to a few of mine, for similar reasons, mostly around having some characters be married and doing things without their spouse's knowledge or consent or for some aspect of BDSM (the category I wrote in most of the time) that is outside the reader's limits of acceptability.

If you write solely for votes, you'll probably not be as happy with what you create, but you'll have a more marketable product. It's a choice we all have to make.

What Wishful said!

Write for yourself, or someone you love. If anyone else likes it, that's a bonus.

I perused a few of your stories and was impressed with the style; good descriptions, realistic actions, and characters with depth. My only serious reservation would be that they are too short to really move me, but that's a personal taste thing, and the personal taste that matters most- is yours.

Take Care,
Penny

Sorry, I haven't looked (yet) at your work. I'm going offline soon, but wanted to respond.
keep writing. Do it for yourself, as Penny writes in the quote. Some cats are hard to please, and i have great difficulty in 'Loving Wives'. I try hard but...
Whatever, keep going and enjoy.
Regards.
