as for me, i know of at least one occasion where sex with some random guy helped me to get over someone, but in fact it was not right after the break up, and it was more because it was part of me proving to myself "i can do what i want now"... but yes, it did help...

I think that's easier for women. a woman can always get laid, if she wants to. doesn't always work like that for a guy, unless he wants to pay for it..lol.

I would say that depends a bit on standards... And yes, on shyness too... I know I would probably always find someone to get laid with, but the problem is to find someone I want to get laid with, and then getting his attention.

But what I actually meant is, given the chance to have no-strings sex with whomever shortly after a messy break up, do you think it would help you to get over said break up? or will it make matters worse because you will end up comparing?

I tried it once. A few days after being dumped I had sex with another guy. All it did was make me feel horrible and like I'd betrayed him even though he'd dumped me. I remember scrubbing myself in a hot shower and feeling dirty and stupid.

I'm one who needs to take time to get over someone. I also don't like having sex with men I've just met, I at least have to have made friends with them first. Women seem to be a different story, I have had sex twice with women I have only just met and felt fine with it

I'm sorry, MrWolf, but even after reading this several times, I'm completely stumped as to what you're talking about.

For me, having sex with someone right after a break up doesn't make anything better. The only thing that does help is taking time to be good to myself, grieve, and reflect on what I've learned. I guess I figure I'm going to have to go through that process anyway, so I might as well start as soon as possible so I can move on to better things.

Yup, been there myself. I tried, but never worked.

Personally I'm never ever a fan of quick fixes. I just don't think they work.

The way I look at it is that at the end of a relationship, we need a mourning period. In a way it's almost like grieving for someone who has died; in this case a familiarity or a relationship has passed and will never return.

I'm all for giving myself an adequate time to grieve and mourn. I also believe that everyone has their own time frame to heal. And even after we claim to be healed, we're never the same afterwards.

But a quick fling to ease that pain in the bigger picture has never seemed like a good idea to me. Physically maybe but emotionally no.
