The Best Unknown Writers Are Female

It seems the best unknown writers are female. I examined a long list, about 90% of good writers you never heard of are female. Why?

What I see is, females are slaves to fashion and catch the popular wave too late in the trend.

"Unknown writer" is a strange term. Basically a nice, lofty way of saying "unpopular."

Partial credit.

What it looks like is theyre Barbie and Rolex 'knockoffs.' Their vampire and shards of grey books come out after the parade has passed by. Generally speaking, in the world of commerce you wanna be 2nd NOT first, but in the arts 1st is everything.

My personal definitions:

Popular = on the NYT Bestseller list

Known = adored by critics and assigned in English 101

Yeah, I'd rather be known and assigned in class.

Hmmmm......That's the deep and "noble" answer.

I'm a Satanist I'll take the fat paycheck and people saying I'm a hack like E.L. James.

Then after the one big hit I would write what I want and people would then complain I went downhill, but that would be okay, I would still have the money.

Saints starve Sinners succeed.

The most ridiculous statement I have ever heard! if they are unknown, how do you know they are females?

Give me the paycheck, too.

Not to mention people wanting to read me, as opposed to feeling like they should.

Or that's the prideful answer. ;)

I'd love both -- the paycheck and the reknown -- but if I have to choose one, it's the reknown. I'd love to be assigned in class, for my work to be the subject of papers and debates, to have that sort of long-lasting influence, long after I'm gone.

Your method's okay too, though. I've also thought about that.

HP Lovecraft created something immortal with his writing. People are still using his mythos today and his influence is everywhere.

he died a pauper. Screw that.

Plus as I said if you sell out and make the money then you do whatever you want afterwards so you could still have both.

If I had my "fantasy" I would break fairly big with my incest series Broken. The books thena nice dirty little Showtime show out of it.

But its incest so what I would achieve is infamy.

I tell my wife my dream is to have a book signing where the Westboro baptists show up to protest me:D

And I can have my people beat the shit out of them.

Well! I am in total support of your dream! I would love to see that! I hate those fuckers.

I see what you're saying, about selling out, but the problem with writing that way for a period of time is that you have to make sure it doesn't become a habit. You kinda lose your voice. It's not always easy to get back.

Bobby? Pay attention.

The question was asked and kind readers submitted their candidates, 9 of 10 were females; it wasn't a sinister conspiracy by the Moose Club.

My dream is to stick a best seller up Pilots ass.

In that case shouldn't you be writing instead of wasting your time here trying to reinvent the writing wheel?

Oh wait, you keep whining about the time Pilot spends here. Funny thing is, he puts out a whole hell of a lot of stories. How are you doing on that front?

They pay me to keep you distracted.

You're not doing a very good job for all the threads you've started in the last week. Most sink with you still talking to yourself.

Obviously youre there holding my hand.

That's a good point.

For me I have two types of writing one is "fun and fluffy" and sadly what I make most of my money off of. Group sex, milf fantasies, incest stories, etc....just your typical "sex stuff" Not quite stroke but fun topics.

Then my other work, my circle series, Broken....is much darker and more serious and I find that after banging out three or four fun things it is hard to capture the right feel for the other works.

But on the other hand if I spend too much time in that mind set my wife will send me to therapy so I have to lighten it up a bit.

Yes, sometimes striking a balance is tough.

Luckily I'm already in therapy, so I don't have to worry about being sent there. ;)

I find that reading some philosophy will break me out of a hollow mindset. I say hollow because none of my stuff is fluffy. It's dark, but it's mostly stroke. I'm trying to veer away from that and add more depth and authenticity to my work again. Trust me, when you lose it for as long as I did, you miss it.

Well if anger management is considered therapy I've had three bouts of that.

See for me, saying dark and stroke in the same sentence is off. Stroke is pure "hey baby let's fuck" if its dark is has to have a little more to it.

There is a niche for dark here, but its a small(but loyal) one.

MY SWB series was only getting 50/60 votes per chapter because of how intense and depressing it was compared to "hey sis can I see your tits" stories getting 500/600, but that falls under who are you writing for you or them?

But fun and fluffy has its place and I find it effortless and relaxing, the dark stuff.....I have not found that switch that enables me to write it without putting myself through hell.
