Is the diversity of the membership of the team from the U.S.A. We got someone from everywhere living here.
I just love it.

I'm one of those type people who's moved by the whole story behind the story. Sentimental fool that I am, I'm always tearing up by the time the actual event takes place cause all of the back ground info they've given about the person competing. TV people must love dolts like me....

I take it you mean the expats from other countries that compete for america...

I actually thought the nicest thing I have seen so far at the olympics was the Spanish coach of femal gymnastics hugging each girl as they came off the vault no matter what they did and the actual cameraderie of the team.

Oh and the mens 4 x 100 freestyle relay.... oooh yeah!

Seriously flamingo... how many would be not born in the US and be in the team... any ideas?

Swede....

I am clueless about sports, in general. Your question would be best put to the proper authorities.

You are not suggesting that the U.S.A. would use a "ringer" or that any other member country would do anything suspect just to win a medal, are you?
(As if I cared).

You see, the point of my post was that when I saw teams from other countries, their members were generally all of the same nationality. In the U.S.,we have them all. That is the great strength of this country, I believe.

You didn't see the Aussies then mate... multicultural we are!

Well I wasn't suggesting that Americans would 'adopt' an athlete... I don't think they would need to anyway but in Australia we did that a few years ago with some weightlifters and when they realized they weren't going to get rich they fucked off.

Is it right that Wilson Kipteker runs for Denmark?
Is it right that Australia has to ex-russians pole vaulting for them?

In both cases there is no doubt about the genuinity of the athletes wishing to compete for their adopted countries, but athletes for hire? The Carribean Canadian sprinters for instance... is that in the olympic spirit?

As long as the rules allow it....

I guss its okay. On the other hand, I have no idea what the rules allow, Chef. Check it out.

By the way, I wasn't aware that Australia was so multicultural as I really don't know much about the country except that its really far away and still under the British flag.

Immigarants from other countries is what made America great. Glad to see that Australia is that way, too.

The best things about the Olympics so far....

The canadian victory in triathlon by an athlete who was offered huge sponsorship to compete for Oz.

And the blonde on the Brazillian womens volleyball team. Could she be any cuter!?

Wasn't that triathlon finish just kick ass?!

I'm always a sucker for the underdog, no matter where they're from. :D

Senor Blue hands, are you trying to say, in your very Flamingo way, that you're proud of our melting pot? ;)

Me thinks Simon is about to become a canadian icon for that 1K kick.

I have to agree with you Flamingo, I think that it's totally cool seeing such a diverse group of people representing the US. Everytime the US wins a gold, (which has been quite often :) ) I get misty eyed when they place our national anthem.

The best thing about the Olympics is that it's on NBC, and therefore isn't preempting any shows I actually watch.
