The Best of the BB

Now, there's been some talk, and I think it's time to address it, about having a seperate set of Awards for the BB. I think that this is a wonderful idea (it's not my idea, mind you, but a good one) and I would like to see what everyone else says about it. Perhaps we could start these awards when the Literotica Reader's Choice Awards come to a close. So, post away with your likes and dislikes on this subject, suggest possible awards, and lets just throw out some ideas... This is only the beginning...

Much has been said lately about popularity threads, and how they cause some strife. "Who do you like the best" lists, as friendly and fun as they are, by their nature also create "Who am I not going to mention" lists, even if they're just in people's minds.

Bulletin Board Awards? For what? Who's the smartest? Who's the flirtiest? Who's the best?

You know, the only nice thing about getting those "Best" awards in high school was that they gave them to you Senior Year, when you were leaving high school forever. Once we get done judging the dubious values of each other's posting habits we still all have to come back here.

In other words,some will take it well, and some won't. If if the "take it wells" outnumber the "wonts", is it worth it?

There comes a point when awards have no meaning; generally when an award is given for everything short of "Best Corpse." Even then, the contending cadavers might have a beef.

Seriously, why? I can see it, sort of, for those who do RPG, which is really a gift. But the other boards? I don't think so.

Oh the Role Playing boards absolutey. Is that what we're talking about? Sure, I think they deserve to be included. Though, who would you give the award to? You see the problem? Or so you just award it to the whole thread?

If you did that I think a nice category would be "Best Set-Up" because I wrote a pretty nice one for a thread that went along for a while. I didn't contribute to the game at all. I just wrote the first post -- the story that kicked things off, and found that it requires a real talent. You have to get people interested in your story enough to want to contribute. You have to give them plenty of details to work with, but not so many that you're controlling too much of the action. It take a lot more effort than, "And then I killed the orc."

I agree with this and lord knows we don't need to start anymore problems or fights on this BB. It is a good idea but some people won't think that way!

Would it really be a popularity contest though? I don't know... when I read HSWriter's first post to this thread, I thought it would be cute... I'm sure there are alot of people here on the boards that don't write. I figured it would be more like the Superlatives pages in High School yearbooks, not a popularity contest (Or maybe I am just odd for not seeing that as a popularity contest lol) I think we are more like one huge perverted family and we get to know each other's quirks and personalities. It would be more like a way to see if we all have the same assumptions about each other as everyone else does.

You see, this is what I was getting at... It's not about having awards to see who is the coolest, or most well-liked member... its just another corny thing we do to pass the time... I think that if everyone takes it as it is (a fun, non-threatening way to recognize some funny and interesting people), then everything would be just fine...
