'Can I Get a Witness' Marvin Gaye
'Heatwave' Martha Reeves
'I Heard it Through the Grapevine' Gladys Knight or Marvin Gaye

I like

OOh Baby, Baby by The Miracles.

And please, please do not mention Linda Ronstadt's cover of it! Not while I am eating!

You got it right! All of the Tammi Terrell songs with Marvin Gaye were awesome. She died of a brain tumor and Marvin Gaye turned UGLY!

The best is "If you don't know me by now......" by Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes.

I love this one

MY GIRL
(Robinson-White)

I've got sunshine on a cloudy day
And when it's cold outside I've got the month of May

I guess you'll say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl, I'm talkin' 'bout my girl

I've got so much honey the bees envy me
I've got a sweeter song than the birds in the tree

I guess you'll say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl, I'm talkin' 'bout my girl

Hey, hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey

I don't need money, fortune or fame
I got all the riches, baby, that one man can claim

I guess you'll say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl, talkin' 'bout my girl

I've got so much honey the bees envy me
I got a sweeter song than the birds in the tree
Don't need no fortune, no money or fame
'cause when I got my girl, I got all the riches one man can claim
Talkin' 'bout my girl, yeah my girl

The O'Jays were not part of Motown.

Basically, there were no best songs in MOTOWN. They were all good. From Marvin Gaye and Tammie Tarrell to Rick James.

Will you marry me?

Stevland Morris

When Stevie Wonder was a teenager he was writing some of the best music of all time. I think he'll go down as one of the greatest American songwriters. How many seventeen year olds wrote songs so good that Sinatra sang them?

A Place in the Sun is my favorite. He couldn't have been more than 15 when he wrote it, in the middle of the Civil Rights struggle. The lyrics give me the chills.

Like a long lonely stream
I keep runnin' towards a dream
Movin' on, movin' on
Like a branch on a tree
I keep reachin' to be free
Movin' on, movin' on.

'Cause there's a place in the sun
Where there's hope for ev'ryone
Where my poor restless heart's gotta run.
There's a place in the sun
And before my life is done
Got to find me a place in the sun.

Like an old dusty road
I get weary from the load.
Movin' on, movin' on
Like this tired troubled earth
I've been rollin' since my birth
Movin' on, movin' on

'Cause there's a place in the sun
Where there's hope for ev'ryone
Where my poor restless heart's gotta run.
There's a place in the sun
And before my life is done
Got to find me a place in the sun

There are lots of songs from Motown that can be
considered "best"......but I have to pick:

"Smiling Faces Sometimes" by The Undisputed Truth

Signed, Sealed, Delivered

Okay, then.

How about a cookie?

Signed, Sealed, Delivered? Hmmmmm. Tough to beat.

This one gives me goosebumps, too. Nobody alive writes lyrics like this. "As" (one of the verses)

Until the rainbow burns the stars out in the sky
Until the ocean covers every mountain high
Until the dolphin flies and parrots live at sea
Until we dream of life and life becomes a dream
Until the day is night and night becomes the day
Until the trees and sea just up and fly away
Until the day that 8x8x8 is 4
Until the day that is the day that are no more
Until the day the earth starts turning right to left
Until the earth just for the sun denies itself
Until dear Mother Nature says her work is through
Until the day that you are me and I am you

Until the day that 8x8x8 is 4

Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.
