Scott felt a bit of a third wheel sometimes. Being readily available for so many of his friends that wanted company on short notice. Being in his late 30's and single, while so many of his gang are now married or living together in a long term relationship.
Sam and Julie and ask him to join them for dinner to celebrate her 28th birthday. Sam and I have been friends since early high school, and the three of us halfway through college. They have been married 4 years now and were probably my best friends ever. So how could I refuse.
I headed over towards their place ready for a nice quiet evening dinner of celebration. As I opened the door and was met by Julie, she said, "Change of plans, Sam wants to go out for dinner, can you handle it?"
Laughing I said, "Yes, anything for my almost brother and sister." And handed her some flowers from behind my back. "Happy Birthday almost old maid," expecting the slap at any time.
