My Bloody Valentine
The Posies

If you like the Posie's check out Big Star live at missouri university 4/25/93. It's them backing Alex Chilton.

Another semi-known great band:
Sugar - featuring former Husker Du member Bob Mould

I am the Queen of little known Punk/Rock bands. :D

To name a few:

The Get Up Kids
Millencollin
Ataris
Dropkick Murphys
Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies
The Hippos
Less Than Jake
Flogging Molly
Alkaline Trio

Loki, I would be interested to hear when you decide which is better Summerteeth or Mermaid ave. I really like Summerteeth, my only complaint on that one is some of the songs sound to much like the Beetles (talented as they were just not my bag).

Fuck punk and heavy metal.

Here is someone who can actually play their instruments well.

Widemouth Mason. Canadian blues rock outfit.

Opened for the likes of: Rolling Stones, ZZ top, AC/DC, Moffats.

Hey if they opened for AC/DC then the moffats they HAVE to be versitile.

Check their site
www.widemouthmason.com

They have some live vid shite from when they played in switzerland at the montreaux jazz fest.

Check it.

Good College Bands

Umphree's McGee, they are a great college band and have a good following in the midwest. Defnietly an up an coming jam band you will hear about in the future. A band based out of Notre Dame.

Also OAR they are the most popular band at Ohio State right now, they have a great frat rock kinda sound.

Rich Hardesty, a guy from Purdue. His songs are great and about relationships, I am sure a lot of people on this website would love his music, he is halarious and a great guitarist.

Me First!

and the Gimmie Gimmies! Oooh I love that band! They do the funniest remakes....gotta love their rendition of Rainbow Connection :)

One band I absolutely adore, that it seems most folks don't know of, is Portishead. Seems on occasion I run into someone who knows them, but usually I'm turning folks onto them. Maybe it's just where I've lived? I know they have to be well known somewhere, besides just the UK? Anyway...great music, haunting voice on Beth (the lead singer). Damn, I'd kill to see them in concert! Would kill lots to have been at the Roseland NYC concert *sob*

I like, The Freddy Jones Band. They're out of Chicago, and I don't know if they are known anywhere else. Maybe everyone knows them and I'm just behind the times...

My favorite is Rick Magee and the Roadhouse Rockers. They are a biker band that plays all Rock and Roll. They play at various places in the US including, Daytona Bike Week, Sturgis, Hazen, and various biker events. They have released three albums and are supposed to have a fourth out this coming spring. Their website offers many pics and songs to download. They are great guys and a riot to see perform.

The Residents...

Best *unknown alternative rock band ever!
(*which is true..no one has ever seen their faces)

http://www.residents.com

The Residents are great! I've been listening to them for 20 years now? (more?)

And their website is just TOO cool.

So many good bands ..I will go with the most different thing i have ever heard of as of yet..The bands name is Therion they come from Russia and mix classical music with opera sing and mix it up with some heavy duty metal..I just find it addicting to listen to ..well theres my two cents

The residents are they the guys who used to wear giant eyeballs on there heads ..if so that stuff is old school

Ekoostik Hookah has to be one of the best bands I have heard in years. Since I moved to a different state in 1996 I haven't heard much of them but by going to this website I see that they have gotten quite the following. My husband was their guitar tech before we moved and had the chance to go on the road with them but didn't. Now he says he should have. Oh Well!!
My favorite album is still their first "Under Full Sail".

Yes those guys.

Is there something wrong with Old School? I hope something doesn't have to be new to be good? Otherwise Mozart is Old School. Beatles are... Zep... actually just about all music would be Old School except the stuff that was released 2 hours ago.
