Jacob Wise loved running the neighborhood bar. He also enjoyed meeting the various patrons, including the new soccer mom who lived down the street and frequented Jake's Tavern. That she was his neighbor as well as his patron would make it easier to learn more about her. She wasn't the only girl to catch his wandering eye, but she was the newest attraction by far and he hoped to get to know this MILF a lot better. He didn't know nearly enough about her, but that should change very soon.

OOC:

Apply here to be the new soccer mom or other characters that you can make up. Since Jacob is a bit of a philanderer and the soccer mom's past is unknown, there is a lot of potential for other people.

Jacob Wise

Jacob Wise gladly popped another top for his umpteenth patron, mostly men who loved to bitch about their wives, often the same stupid complaints for years. Usually, they had good points, but were blind as bats to the fact that they were partly at fault for things like spending all of their time and money at bars....oh, he was grateful for their business, but they should learn balance and keep everything in moderation.

Oh, well...it was their divorce in five years' time, and then he would really make bank from them. The Big D (not Dallas) was always good business for a barkeep. Jacob was admittedly a bit jaded, but he had been there, too, and screwed up three marriages before realizing that he wasn't able to keep his dick in his pants, so why bother? At 46, he was done with that rubbish. He just wanted to make the money from pouring the draft, mixing the cocktails, and most of all, listening to every miserable complaint, including a few from the womenfolk, too.

It didn't hurt that the latter got him laid now and then.....well, there was her. Far better than the barflies that he kept around for money and fun. She was quite the dish, this one. He didn't know her name yet, but damn, she was worth listening to, just to find more about her.

Jacob seriously doubted that he could ever fall in love again, but he wouldn't be surprised by a serious desire for a woman like this. She was not a girl....she was a woman. Girls were nice, but it was always better to have someone who had been around and knew what she liked. Less drama, too. The younger ones were looking for a Daddy substitute. Jacob just wanted a good time, preferably with someone of his own generation, who had more in common with him.

Someone who could talk to him and not make it feel like part of the job.

"Hey, there, gorgeous. What will it be for you?" Jacob smiled as he prepared to serve her whatever drink she liked....wondering what all she would have to unload on him....occupational hazard of barkeeps and barbers, wasn't it? Jacob just found bars to be more fun than barber shops. More women around, after all.

Samantha, Sam as her friends called her was 32, married and a mother of 3. She had come to the bar tonight for some alone time. The kids were asleep at home, the husband was sick in bed and she was going stir crazy just being a stay at home and soccer mum. She was craving a conversation that didn't revolve around yelling and crying and tantrums and this random bar she'd driven past after the kids soccer game sounded interesting enough to stop into.

She saw the bar was full of regulars, the bartender smiling and making conversation with them all, until he reached her. She felt a little out of place. White Chucks, jeans and a blue button down shirt. Honey blonde hair in a pony tail and chocolate brown eyes framed her face.

The bartender asked her order and she replied, "shot of whiskey and a Stella chaser" - her college favourite when she would drink with the guys from her Accounting lectures. The drinks placed in front of her, she threw back the shot and downed half of her pint before shaking her head and placing the glass back on the bar.

"Do you ever feel you're destined for something great and you're being held back by the status quo?" she asked nobody in particular, as she took a sip of her beer.

Jacob Wise

"That's a feeling that I have now and then. Maybe, however, my moment passed me by. Or maybe running this bar is my destiny. Who knows? If I die and find that I should have been a heart surgeon, I'll definitely have egg on my face then," Jacob admitted, adding, "check now or do you want another?"

"I think that some of it in my case is because my family came over from the Old Country with nothing but the clothes on their backs and my father never got more than the equivalent of junior high school back in Europe. I think that he had such high hopes of college and such, and so far, only my nephew Levi even made it to college," Jacob added, "he's a rabbi now. I'm not even kosher anymore."

The young woman was very attractive, even if now and then, he felt somewhat guilty over his constant skirt-chasing, thanks to his parents' strict Orthodox Judaism. After three marriages, however, he was largely jaded about such things. Part of him felt that if the woman came looking in a bar for another man, her marriage had bigger problems than just adultery. The only scruples he had were with the prospect of hurting her kids.

Just to be sure, he looked for a wedding band, so he would know if she was taken.

Sam lifted her glass for a refill of whiskey, her engagement and wedding bands glinting in the bar light. She raised her glass to the bartender and accepted the refill. She knocked it back, the brown liquid warming her up.

"I was a promising student back in Australia when I had the opportunity to come over to the States to complete my post-graduate studies and do an internship to become a forensic accountant with a major firm over here. Then I fell in love, got married in Hawaii in an intimate ceremony, and at 24 became a first time mother."

She motioned for another drink and continued.

"I have 3 kids. They're 8, 5 and 2. I love them. I love my husband, but I really wish I'd waited to finish uni before I started a family. My last transcript says my studies were incomplete and I had to quit my internship due to morning sickness. I drive a minivan that's full of car seats and toys and crushed up food. My house is in a constant state of mess as I juggle chores and playdates. I want more. I need more."

She finished her beer and threw some money on the bar.

"Also, I think my husband's having an affair. He's always worked weird hours but lately he's been coming home later and later, and his shirts have been smelling of someone else's perfume when I wash them. Thank you for listening and I'm sorry for laying all my troubles out on you."

Jacob Wise

"Yes, I must say from experience that does sound like an affair. What exactly do you want, that is more out of life? Do you just want to finish school? Do you want a job? It's tricky with the youngest, of course. Getting daycare and all that, I suppose, or just a babysitter. There are ways to finish college, of course. You think that maybe you and the hubby have just drifted apart?" Jacob asked her.

Jacob honestly wanted to do more this time than just listen to Samantha's complaints. Something about her really affected him, deep-down...it was a lot more than the usual heat of the moment. He was very attracted to her...more than just that she was an Aussie, though that was interesting. He liked that about her. He liked her in general.

"I made some real mistakes, which is why I am thrice divorced. Yep, three failed marriages under my belt. It didn't help that I shoot blanks and my last ex tried to pin her baby from her boyfriend on me. Some DNA and evidence presented of my sterility changed her tune in a hurry," Jacob recalled, "though I was no Boy Scout. I'm a womanizer, I'll be the first to admit that. Not my fault that Saddam Hussein left some presents for me that killed my fertility back in '91. It also ended my term of service in the Infantry."

"Another beer please?" Sam asked. "I don't know what I want. I need to go back home and visit my parents, siblings and nieces and nephews. I need a job - are you hiring? I want to sell my minivan and get a totally inappropriate car. I want to get my Masters and move to New York and get a real job. I don't know how my kids and husband factor into this. Do I move without them, and see them once a month? Or do I sacrifice another 10 years of my life?"

Sam started toying with a few beer nuts and lined them all up in a row. She flicked them all into the service area.

"Sorry, nervous habit. Hi, I'm Sam," she said, extending her hand to introduce herself, "as you can tell I have no fertility issues and would probably be pregnant again if the husband wasn't sleeping with someone else and having sex with me. If I was knocked up, there'd be no hope for me at all. I'd be running around after 2 school aged kids, a toddler and be looking like a fat pig with swollen ankles."

Jacob Wise

"I doubt that last part, but yes, I'm hiring. For a waitress, mind you. Given what else you handle and juggle in your life, waiting tables shouldn't be too hard. Granted, I admit that I am attracted to you, so I'll have to be careful not to harass you, Sam. You are quite the looker, if I may say so myself," Jacob chuckled.

"What you might want to consider doing is online courses. You can even study while on break here or hang out after hours for a bit to borrow the PC for classes, say an hour or so, if that's practical. We can work you part-time to give you enough time for kids, family, and school. Just a thought. With the tips you're likely to get, you'll do pretty well even on part-time hours," he added.

Jacob really was more and more attracted to Sam, of course.

Sam flushed pink at the compliments. Or maybe it was the alcohol talking. A job would be handy, but she'd have to juggle it with the household chores and kids. She sighed and mulled over the proposed job prospect. They didn't need the money, but she had to get out of the house - she was going stir crazy.

"I would be glad to accept your job offer, it's been a long time since I last waited on tables, so if you can be patient with an unskilled employee. What's the uniform? And don't say a skimpy black skirt and white tank top - you're wearing jeans and a black tshirt!"

"Thank you for listening, please call me when you want me to come in to sign paper work and start." Sam pushed her half finished beer toward Jacob and pulled out a $50 note from her purse and left it on the counter. She fished through her her bag and found a pen and left her number on a napkin.

She leaned over to shake Jacob's hand again before she left and she thought she felt his hand linger a little too long over hers.

Jacob Wise

"I would be a real jerk if I didn't help out someone else having a rough time. I've been there before. Not quite in your spot, but in a rough patch with marriage, at least. When can you come in? Screw the paperwork. Just bring in your documents, things to prove that you can work in the country. That sort of thing. We'll get it sorted out as we go and back date it. I can tell that you need this job for reasons other than money. Who knows? Maybe your family will come to thank me for it," Jacob touched her hand lightly...enjoying the contact of her skin to his.

"Don't worry. I'll pay you more than what the State requires me to. I don't want to make your wages entirely dependent on sometimes pigheaded patrons," he added.

"I was a waiter once or twice, back in the day. I know what's involved. Drinks were on the house this time, Sam," he handed her back her fifty.

Sam barely got through the next day of school pickups and dropoffs and cleaning. Always so much cleaning. She'd organised with the 18 year old that lived next door to babysit until her husband got home at 7.

She took a quick shower and dressed in tight black jeans, a slouchy white tshirt and black sneakers. She debated whether to have her shoulder length hair up or down but settled for it down. A quick spritz of perfume, some pink lip gloss and a dab of mascara, and she was ready to go get herself sorted.

Armed with her green card, visas and marriage certificate, she made her way to the bar. She parked her minivan in the carpark behind the bar and made her way through the front entrance. It was a few minutes before 5 and the bar was a ghost town. She made her way behind the bar and knocked on the office door before opening it.

"Jacob, hello, I brought my paperwork in. What do you need to see?" Sam handed it all over to Jacob and took a seat next to his desk, smiling nervously.

Jacob Wise

"Good to see you, Sam. Yeah, it looks like you have everything in order. Proof of the legal right to work in the United States, so forth. Excellent. You need to do the tax form here and I need to photocopy your driver's license."

Jacob smiled at Sam, very glad that he hired her and helped her out. He would just have to resist his urge to make any moves on her. It wouldn't be easy, but he would try. He didn't hire her just to make her want to quit.

Jacob got a dinner together for both of them, so Sam could have some energy in her system as she started a fast-paced night of waiting tables. For the first night, it would be a good idea. He hurriedly got some sandwiches and fries ready for her with a soft drink of her choice.

Sam sat and ate at Jacob's desk with him and chatted about growing up in Australia and how different it was for her kids who had never visited her home town. "We did want to go last Christmas but my husband couldn't get time off work. It's been like 3 years since I've been back. Sure, my brother has come to visit, but it's not the same as going to see my folks. The kids Skype with their grandparents all the time, but I've had one too many white Christmases. The kids need to experience a beach Christmas, playing cricket with their cousins."

She got a little teary and wiped her eye with her hand. "Maybe I'm just homesick? Sorry to act a fool on my first night here. I'm okay now, I think I needed that." Sam dusted an errant crumb off her shirt, stood up and gathered their empty plates to take to the kitchen.

Her first night was much busier than she anticipated, she was run off her feet and super glad she'd worn sneakers. After the dinner rush was over and she took empty plates and glasses to the kitchen she leaned against a door frame out of eyeshot of the bar and took a deep breath. She saw Jacob and asked if she could have a short break to call the babysitter to check on the kids.

"They'll be fine, I'm sure, but I just want to say good night to them, I haven't been away from them this long except for when they're in school. And even then, I have the little one with me 24/7."

Jacob truly enjoyed listening to Sam talk while they ate. He was glad that he had hired her in more ways than one. He liked most of his staff, but to be frank, most of them had the same basic background and attitude. Sam was a refreshing new personality, not only foreign with that delightful Aussie accent and slang, but also a mother and thus a woman who actually cared about something other than the next party or gossip about her latest boyfriend. She had a maturity about her that would appeal to many patrons, just as it did to him, and she might well be a good influence on her co-workers.

"I know what it's like to be apart from family. In some ways, though, mine was due to other things, like people not understanding what the war was like, what a blow it was for me to find out that I was now sterile, how tough the first divorce was, for example, after Bethany decided that she couldn't stay with an infertile man. To be fair to her, I wasn't the poster boy for fidelity, either. That and my failure to observe Shabbat, keep kosher, go to Temple, etc. My tendency to marry goyim, too, didn't help there. I was often kind of forgotten on Hanukkah, Purim, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Pesach. When they did invite me, it was to set me up with a nice Jewish girl, which rarely worked out, because their idea of 'nice' was religious and practicing," he added while eating his bacon cheeseburger with Thousand Island dressing on it, a classic example of his continuing rebellion against the Torah.

All told, Jacob couldn't fault her work ethic, either. She kept up with the youngsters and served the customers remarkably well. In short, she was an excellent addition and investment, one that he was glad that he greenlighted without the usual job application, resume, or interview. In a way, she basically had her interview over the past day or so and had impressed him greatly...of course, it didn't hurt that he just plain enjoyed her company. Then again, that was a very good thing in dealing with the public, too.

More than a few patrons, including many regulars, had pulled Jacob aside and asked him versions of, "Hey, who's the new girl? She's very good. Friendly. Hard-working. Kept my drinks filled up and was prompt about bringing over the appetizers, etc."

So when Sam approached Jacob about the break, he smiled and said, "Sam, you more than earned it. Everyone has enjoyed having you around. I've had nothing but praise for your work tonight. Yeah, take a few off your feet and call whom you need to call. In this business, a few minutes off your feet can make all the difference. If you're half as good to your husband and kids as you are to your patrons, they should love you to death."

Sam took a seat at the bar and pulled her phone out of her pocket. She rang home and got the machine. Worried, she checked the time and realised the babysitter must have Sophia in the bath. The older kids would be reading or doing homework. She tried the babysitter's mobile and it picked up on the second ring.

"Hello, it's Mrs Davis. Just wondering... Oh, good! I didn't realise! Is Mr Davis..." she trailed off, noticing someone was standing next to her, invading her personal space. She put the phone down and mouthed 'sorry, on a personal call', before returning to her call.

"Sorry, love, I just had someone standing next to me," she continued, before she felt a hand on her arm and she tried to move it, to no avail. "I have to let you go, just get Mr Davis to call me when he gets home. Hope you don't have to stay too late. Bye."

The man wasn't moving and Sam was feeling awkward. He was trying to buy her a drink, obviously not noticing her rings or the fact she was referencing her husband in a phone call. She couldn't even get her arm free and she was getting scared.

"Please let go of me, you're hurting my arm," she said as she tried to stand up and move away. Freaking out she made eye contact with Jacob who was at the other end of the bar, panic written all over her face. She called out loudly, hoping no one else in the bar could see her making a scene.

"Jacob, can you please help me clean up a spill under the bar?"

Jacob heard Sam call out to him and saw that the patron in question, Joe McDonald, hadn't left her alone in spite of her obvious discomfort with his attentions. It was clearly about his misguided affections or desire for Sam, rather than his need for friendly service.

Then again, with Joe, he often mistook such service for a sign that a woman desired him. Joe was just fresh from a stint in prison for stalking one of the teachers of his children. Jacob cursed his luck that Joe chose that night to show up, Sam's first on the job.

"Joe, leave her alone. She's a married woman and you aren't her husband," Jacob warned Joe in a very stern voice.

"Here, Sam, go ahead and continue your phone call," Jacob encouraged her as Joe took the hint. Jacob had a good inch or two of height and twenty pounds of weight advantage over Joe easily.....plus Jacob used to box in his youth and had once knocked Joe out cold during a match when they were boys.

"Thank you, Jacob, I appreciate your assistance. I forgot you need a thick skin to work in a bar. You can definitely tell I've been out of the service industry for a while." Sam reached over and grabbed Jacob's hand to thank him, her maternal instincts kicking in. Sam put her phone back in her pocket and hopped off the barstool gingerly, her short legs having a longer way to travel.

"Right, back to the grind! Do you think I can hassle some of the kids to mop while I clean tables?" Sam's love of delegation kicked in and she was back to work in moments, finishing off orders and cleaning. The food orders were winding down and being close to 10pm, thought Jacob would call last drinks soon.

Tonight she thought she'd hang back at the bar and see if her new colleagues did anything after work. She wasn't keen on clubbing but if they went for tacos or stayed at the bar for debriefing drinks. Sam got through the rest of her shift uneventfully. She was thankful her night was uneventful after her experience with Joe.

Sam gathered a couple of stray glasses from the bar and took them back to the kitchen for washing, trying to keep busy at the bar on a weeknight.

Jacob Wise

"Oh, I would do that for my staff any day of the week, but I admit that you're rapidly becoming my favorite employee already. Of course, we need to get this place set up for tomorrow's business, too," Jacob said, "just let them know that Jacob said to mop. They'll get right at it."

Last call was at midnight in this community, but Jacob made sure that whatever could be readied in advance was. That was his style, of course, to think of ways to speed things up and be ready to call it a day sooner that way, rather than waste time and have to play catch-up later.

When the last patrons were done, it was about one, but that was normal enough, and Jacob simply organized a kind of "early breakfast" for the mostly college age staff who would likely have to cram for exams, quizzes, etc. in the morning and might not have time for it. He naturally invited Sam for it, wanting to make an announcement.

"Boy and girls, as you've have met Sam, let me be clear. She is already proving a valuable member of our team. I know that most of you have college and other things to do, but just remember, Sam has a husband and kids. We've all got things to do elsewhere. She puts that aside, near as I can tell, and does her job. That's the way to do this job. You can't dwell on exams. Focus on your work and helping the patrons. Without them, we have no work, no business, no money. Sam, is there anything that you want to say?" Jacob asked as they ate plenty of scrambled eggs, bagels with cream cheese, and breakfast burritos.

Sam smiled and stood up unsurely. She looked down at the uninterested looking faces of the college kids. "Hey guys, I'm not here to steal your jobs. I'm here to work with you and be part of your team. Before you ask, I'm Australian. I grew up 20 minutes from Sydney, I don't have a pet kangaroo back home. I used some different words to you all, even though I've lived here for 10 years. I have a husband, Tom. I met him when I came over here to study at UNCC, as part of my degree in Forensic Accounting. We fell in love, got married and have had 3 beautiful children. Robert, Stella and Sophia. They're 8, 5 and 2. The older kids go to school not far from here and love to play soccer. The youngest one doesn't play yet, but she's obsessed. So, that's me in a nutshell. Please ask me anything you want, I'm an open book!"

Seeing the youths eyes glaze over, she took her seat next to Jacob and played with her eggs while slowly everyone excused themselves and made their way home. Sam took a sip of water and yawned, knowing she had to be up in a few hours to make lunches and start the school dropoffs. She thanked Jacob for the interesting night.

"Thank you for taking a chance on a lonely housewife, besides Joe, I've had a good time tonight. The kids are just being kids but they'll warm up to me soon. Do you want me to work tomorrow night? I know I don't have a formal roster, I just need to give the babysitter a few hours warning." Sam yawned again and found her bag, ready to leave and go home to sleep.

Jacob thought for a second.

"Tomorrow is Friday night. If you don't have anything better to do, that would be helpful. Then take the next few nights off. You're part-time, after all. It's best to make sure that you still have time to be a mother and wife. I really appreciate what you're doing and you're very welcome. You've proven a stellar worker so far. However, you need a life outside of work, too, and you definitely need some nights to spend with your family."

"Keep up the good work, anyway. You're a very impressive member of the team and I'm glad that I trusted my gut about you. Now, go home, get some rest, and warn your family and babysitter about working one more night this week. Best to ease into it before starting even a part-time load for the week."

Jacob did his best to remind himself that Sam was married. She was supposed to be off-limits...but, damn....he would definitely have a hard time not jerking off to thoughts of her before he took his afternoon nap. God, she was his kind of woman!

Sam got home just after 1:30am, showered and poured herself into bed. She loved the house at this time of night. Mostly clean, but it was dark and quiet. There was no television, no temper tantrums. Just the sound of sweet baby snores and kids talking in their sleep occasionally. Tom moved in his sleep and wrapped his arms around her. A kiss in the dark landed on her ear.

"I'm sorry, did I wake you?" asked Sam as her husband let out a murmur and went back to sleep, softly snoring. Her eyes closed for what she thought was a minute. The next thing she knew, it was 5:30 and there was a toddler sleeping in the crook of her arm. She let Sophia sleep in her bed with her father while she trudged downstairs and started her day.

As she made breakfast and lunches and sorted uniforms and homework, she realised she couldn't wait to go back to work, back to the bar. Back to Jacob? She realised she missed him more than she should, he was the only adult conversation she'd had in days. Tom came barreling down the stairs, gave her a kiss on the cheek and took a piece of toast she was buttering. He mumbled something about seeing her tonight.

"No, I have to work so you'll have to come home on time for once and look after the kids. Get pizza tonight, I'm not cooking," she called after his retreating back. She went through the motions of her day on autopilot, checking in with the babysitter and confirming she'd come look after the kids at 4.

She emulated the look the kids were wearing last night, black tshirt, blue jeans and black Nikes. Hair in a side braid hanging over her right shoulder and she was ready to go back to work. She felt butterflies as she remembered the way Jacob came to her rescue the previous nights. Sam was trying to get into the bar early before anyone else so she could spend some time with Jacob, chatting.

Sam arrived early and let herself into the bar through the kitchen, high fiving one of the cooks before entering the dining room. She started singing softly to a pop song playing on the speakers while setting up tables with cutlery, serviettes, menus, ketchup and salt & pepper shakers. Jacob entered the service area and Sam didn't notice as she was lost in the song and her work.

"Early again, eh? I'm pleased to see your enthusiasm for this work. So many of my staff drag in at the last second, doing only what bare minimum I ask of them. We could use your positive attitude around here. It's a definite change for the better. I hope it rubs off on the rest of them. Is this the way that you are at home? If so, your guy is a lucky man and your kids are lucky as well," Jacob complimented her.

He did his best not to ogle Sam too much, but God, she was just perfect, as far as he was concerned. No wonder the guy had knocked her up three times. Jacob would have gotten busy with her plenty of times, given the chance....very tempting. He would behave, or at least try to, but it wouldn't be easy. Still, despite the tease, he didn't regret hiring Sam. She was already making him glad that he did. It just felt right to him.

Sam flushed at the compliment, it was a long time since someone said thank you and meant it. She was taken for granted at home by Tom and the kids and while she knew she was appreciated, she liked hearing it said. She kept working, finishing off and greeting the first couple of college kids that walked in to start their shifts. She got them to dusting and walked off to find Jacob.

"Sorry, I should have let you know sooner, but if you need me on Saturday, I have soccer in the morning and a family dinner at 6 so I might be able to pop in for a few hours if you need me to do anything. Also, do you want to show me how to pull beers? I'm only one of a few employees older than 21 that can legally sell and serve alcohol. Just a thought." Sam had found him in the corridor near the kitchen and cornered him accidentally.

"Also, I brought in some biscuits, er, cookies, I made. Australian ones. Thought I might share them round with everyone after we finish?" She was so excited to have some meaning again that she was talking a million miles a minute. Sam knew that when she spoke fast, her accent became thicker and she was worried Jacob might not be able to understand her.

"Yes, that way you can fill in as barkeep now and then. It would be good to have an extra barkeep and once you've gotten better at it, you can become a bartender more permanently, if you wish. There is something of an art to it, of course," Jacob assured her.

"Those cookies or biscuits sound nice. Never had Aussie food before. As for Saturday, I appreciate the offer, but only if it won't get in the way of any time with your man. I don't want to intrude on quality time with your hubby," Jacob answered Sam, even as he felt the attraction grow stronger.

Was he imagining things, or was the woman eager to spend time with him? It seemed that way. Much as a large part of Jacob kicked himself for even contemplating an affair, there was a strong primal urge to have Sam....to make her his. Why did he think like that? Then again, maybe his hesitation was a lingering effect of his religious background....

Sam wasn't sure why, but she was becoming attracted to Jacob. She'd only known him for barely three days and she found herself at work early and thinking of him when she'd daydream. She kept envisioning herself straddling him in the end booth with the lights dimmed and rock music playing while they made out.

She shook herself out of her day dream and grabbed a glass of water. She drank it and chatted to Jacob. She didn't want him to go do other jobs, she wanted to chat to him, but she wasn't sure about what. She drummed her fingers on the bar and tried to think of something to say, but her childhood shyness had kicked in once again. She opened her mouth a couple of times and stopped.

"Jacob, do you have a minute if I can come chat in your office about my pay? The dining area is all set up and I have the early arrivals cleaning?" Sam didn't need to talk about her pay. She just wanted to get her boss alone for a minute. She knew she was going to be pushing the boundaries but was spurred on by some adrenaline.
