My invisibility was useless against them. They didn't need to see me to find me. They were robots. They had other senses.
I ran. It was all I could think to do.
The robots swarmed over the Baxter Building. They attacked without warning. Johnny was rendeder unconscious before he could even flame on. Ben fought with all his might, but there were just too many of them. He vanished under the weight of them. Reed stretched himself to his limits before he too was soon overwhelmed.
That left only me.
And I knew I couldn't beat them on my own, so I encased myself in a forcefield and tried to escape. I was amazed when I made it. I reached the Fantasticar and opened the roof. I knew I could be at Avengers Mansion in less than three minutes. The Avengers could help. Little did I know that the Avengers were having troubles of their own.
I had to drop the forcefield to drive. This was a mistake. The instant I did so, a tiny robot the size of a fly buzzed around my head. It exploded into a thin cloud of gas.
That was the last thing I remembered.
When I regained consciousness, I found myself trapped in an enormous glass tube. There were dozens of more tubes on either side of me. I gasped. Each and every one contained a costumed heroine. I recognized them all. I also recognized the man standing in the center of the arena.
Victor Von Doom.
"Our next captive is quite near and dear to me. On numerous occasions, she has foiled my plans to conquer the world. Why, I may even bid on her myself..."
There was a roar of laughter, and I looked out to see the audience. My heart sank. There must have been thousands of people there.
Well.
People. Robots. Aliens. Gods and goddesses.
They had one thing in common, though.
They were all evil.
Then, I remembered what Doctor Doom had said, and I began to tremble.
"What am I bid on Susan Richards, the Invisible Woman?"
