As to your cat, do you direct their actions the way I do? If you want to demonstrate power over a cat, just say the following - it is helpful to the ego...
"Cat, I COMMAND that you ignore me!" Works every time

That depends. Some crisis I'm fine with and manage to weather them like a trooper. Others really undo me. I don't shut down, but I can be very aggressive and excited and yell alot. And swear. yeah, it's not pretty...sigh..

I think it's giving people responsibility commensurate with their ability and then not getting in their way so they can accomplish things. Some people, you can say "here's the big goal, go" while some people you have to say "your first task today is to..." I think recognizing where each person is, is crucial. I'm working on that...

It depends. I don't drink all that often. If I'm out with my girlfriends, then it's usually margaritas or martinis. If it's getting together for a drink and gripping (and in academia, it's often about the gripping) then a pint or a whiskey.
Otherwise, white wine.
