What is the art to a good thread?

I have been on this site and i see some threads having increadible amounts of posts i start them and they die immediately

How do i overcome this any suggestions

This one will die like the rest of them

To begin with .... a thread title that is clear and if possible, a bit clever...

Frankly, poorly spelled thread titles are a turn off...

That would be a beginning.

However, I am not one who author's threads that last more than a few days, so perhaps, I am not the one to respond!

Good thread though...

I look forward to the responses.

Rambrat said the same thing about his threads....it's now over 100 pages. Have faith;)

The board moves so fast these days that the majority of threads only last a short time. Don't give up, just keep posting!

I agree on the title being very important though. If the title isn't interesting, I won't bother opening the thread.

I think I would rather have more threads that have a short death, than these tons of never ending threads.

Have you opened one up? It's just nonsense in there!

I resemble that remark.

I don't think I have ever opened one of the legendary "monster" threads. I do not want to take the time to read through it all to figure out what the hell it is about -- if it is about anything at all.

MONSTER THREAD ENTHUSIASTS

The monster threads are nothing more than people unwilling to join the general fray and haven't figured out that we have our own chat room.

Not there's anything wrong with that. I think a lot of people start off posting in those threads just to make friends and learn their way around.

Those that stay in the monster threads are sociopaths and should be avoided at all costs.

Those that stay in the monster threads are sociopaths and should be avoided at all costs. Along with those whose names are derived from leftist dictators.

There is a chat room. Either i aint been invited or i is blind.

Can i come and say hello?

Say something that's interesting to you and hopefully it will be interesting to others.

Title definitely helps. I like titles that actually match the threads. But teaser titles seem to get a lot of attention as well.

Try and be aware of what's gone on here at least over the past few weeks and don't start a thread on a subject that was already discussed to death just a couple weeks ago. I know, over time, that subjects will pop up over and over again (like the at least dozen threads I've seen since coming here on why people choice their nickname). This is inevitable and there are enough new people all the time that there is always some interest in repeated topics. While I don't expect people to review every thread posted here since the beginning of time, at least trying not to be repetitive within the short term will help create an active and interesting thread. (BTW, I've been guilty of this myself so this is not meant as a "slam" to anyone who has done this, but rather as good faith advice based on your initial query).

Having found the chat all i get is lots of blue logging on writing followed by my name in the top right hand corner box

I wrote a reply and it seemed to fall on deaf ears is this just cause its empty or no one wants to talk to me

Wiz

Good question! I've been wanting to know the secret to this for a while...
Quick question though...
Wouldn't you rather your threads dies a quick painless death than the slow, agonizing death my threads experience?...

Much like a party it's always good to send out invites. Night time is the right time. Y'know, "hey i'm in chat with Vanessa Del Rio, Sekka, and Chasey Lain" or something....

To learn the art you have to study the classics, namely...

THE GREATEST THREAD IN HISTORY!!!!

I too feel the title is important but more than that the subject has to at least spark some interest, otherwise what's the point of responding.

However, what you might find interesting isn't neccasarily what other people find interesting. Have you ever noticed how some seemingly innocent threads recieve big numbers, whilst well writen, informative and down right educational ones go by in a day.

Like this thread for instance, I find it interesting enough to place my mark on it, I will also come back later to see if it has caused anyone else to add to the conversation.

Good thread

I don't think I've ever opened that one.

Marx was never a dictator, simply a theorist and writer. :)

Did *I* actually say that? *hiding my head in shame and not wanting to admit that I actually took several philosophy classes in college*

Thanks Lavy - you're GREAT for a guy's self esteem.
;)

I hate maintaining threads...I have a game called "Rent Boy Survivor" I'm sitting on just becouse its too much like work...but the trick is not being afraid to "talk to yourself" a little and bump your threads up untill someone either responds to them or you come up with better ideas...
