OK, you lot are some of the brightest most well-informed and argumentative buggers I've met online so I'm setting you all a challenge that will (hopefully) result in Brownie Points for (and from) Vermilion...

So... Artistic respresentations of terror... what have you got?
I'm thinking films, comics/graphic novels, paintings, sculpture/installations - whatever.

And when I say terror I don't mean 911 exclusively, although that's obviously a major part of it.

Any nationality and anything withint the last 50 or 60 years I guess.

Now amaze me :)

ps- anyone who suggests that diabolical Nicholas Cage film will be deprived of all flirtation rights! :D

I'm not sure what you are asking for. Do you want work that we have done or do you want us to point you in the direction of terrorism depicted in paintings, etc?

Although I always like looking at friends' work I actually want work that is out there in the public forum that is making some comment on terror and its results. If anyone is wondering why I am asking it's an assignment for one of my art modules so anything that fits into the artistic realm really.

The movie Munich: Munich is a 2005 drama film directed by Steven Spielberg and written by Tony Kushner and Eric Roth which depicts the 1972 Munich massacre of Israeli Olympic atheletes by Black September gunmen, and the Israeli government's secret retaliation assasinations. The film shows how a squad of assassins, led by former Mossad agent "Avner" (Eric Bana) tracks down and kills a list of Black September members thought to be responsible for the 11 Israeli athletes' murders (see Background and planning of Operation Wrath of God). The film was nominated for an Academy Award. The film is based on the book Vengeance: The True Story of an Israeli Counter-Terrorist Team. (gotta love wikipedia)

If I remember correctly the main character loses a part of himself through the retaliation/killings and questions what good it has done.

"Beware when you battle monsters" and all that.

goya's 'darker' paintings, such as 'saturn devouring his children' and the 'may 3' (execution) are pretty good for terror/horror.

Belfast Murals

The divisions in Northern Ireland are marked by street art.

I'll try to attach one.

Search for Falls Road or Shankhill Road.

Of recent films, The Last King of Scotland comes close, IMHO to portraying terror at an individual to individual level.

Try some of the pictures that came out of Cambodia and the "Killing Fields". State sponsored terrorism, (political cleansing) at it's worst.

Also any of the pictures of the ovens in places like Treblinca.
