Gabriel wiped the sweat from his brow as he tossed another line of rope up to one of the sailors in the rigging. They had been at sea for almost two weeks now and were expected to hit land sometime today. He could have easily used his magic to make the task easier on himself, but he always preferred to keep himself in good shape should a confrontation come down to martial skill instead of magical. Working in the summer heat all in black might have been a mistake, though.

He looked out across the deck at the crew and passengers who were pitching in to help maintain the ship. The sun beat down harshly overhead as sapphire blue waves surrounded them on all sides. The salt air had long lost its pungence in his nostrils, but that didn't stop the heat.

Gabriel once more wiped the sweat from his face as a cry of, "Land!" echoed through the open air. His eyes followed the sailors as they crowded to the bow of the ship and sure enough, the sillhouette of the Arkon Islands was on the horizon. Finally.

Land! They'd finally made it. She stayed put in her hammock. No need to go out yet. She'd see enough of this place soon enough. Cynn went back to her reading. It was always good to be a part of a guild, especially if it's a guild that actually helps you out instead of just demanding fees. She knew her services would be useful here.

At last! Michael had grown quite weary of the boat. he had longed for solid Earth to place his feet upon. He knew Ishira was tired of sailing as well. There was little to hunt for a phoenix at sea. He wondered to himself what the bird had been thinking

A very small smile tilted her lips upward as she gazed out over the waves, the blue of land in the distance a glimpse of new life. Oh, how she had yearned for this moment.

Pulling her hood back up and around her head, she slipped out of her hammock near the port-hole window. With barely audible steps, she glided up to the deck. Now that land was near, she knew the sailors would need all the help they could get to offload supplies and passengers.

"Anyone need help?" she asked in a soft but ear-catching voice. Magic, and the army, were good from some things, she had discovered.

Kyara looked with wonder at the island as they approached. Who would have thought a young farm girl like her could be on a ship? She had never even seen the ocean before this. Leaning against the railing, she looked down at the turqoise water splashing against the side of the ship, the wind blowing her long hair behind her. She wondered what adventures she would find here.

The ship reached land, and Ishira took wing. She would return in time. Michael headed down to the hold. Calling to the rest of the crew as he went. “Hey, I’m gonna need some help unloading this stuff!” With that, Michael went down to start grabbing crates

Ah, the glorious call of duty Cynn thought to herself. "Be right down. Let me get my boots on and I'll be right there."

Pulling her feet into her boots she got out of her hammock and went to help with the off loading of crates. She'd get her things after they had gotten the crates off. Then it would be tent setting duty until everyone had some sort of shelter to sleep under.

The strangely cute half-orc followed Michael down. She was tall, but she didn’t look all that buff. He wondered how useful this lady was going to be. As he was thinking this, she picked up a crate easily twice as heavy as he, himself could carry. “Well, I just emasculated myself mentally; It’s gonna be a great day.” He mumbled under his breath

This work wasn't so bad as she'd first expected. Boring, yes, but otherwise easy. She made it a point to take the occassional break to herd the occassional children gaggle out of the work area making a game of it so that even the children were helping.

That was her first mistake of the day. She'd let herself get comfortable with this group of settlers and had to be chastised by some of the mothers for the Orcish working rhyme she'd taught some of the boys.

"Toil or boil.
Lift and grip.
Toil or boil.
Jump for that whip."

There were motions that went with it as well that one could do while carrying but she wouldn't go over how the human children had looked doing them.

Her second mistake was to begin a contest with the bruiser of a sailor she'd kept company a few nights of the trip. He would be a human worthy of bringing home to meet the family. If he weren't tuckless she'd have easily forgotten he wasn't an Orc. He began wearing her out with crate moving. Did that damned man have Giant blood in him? He worked like it.

With the word of one of the passengers, she began to pull her weight in work. Albeit she wasn't as strong as some of them, but for a woman of her stature and strength, she was not ashamed.

In no time, she was ready to take a nap, but she kept pulling with the rest of them. No sense in her taking a break when the sailors weren't able to either. She grinned at a few, knowing they could hardly tell she was a woman with all of her clothing. Of course, people see what they want to see, anyway. She was just another left over soldier, escaping a fruitless existence.

For a fleeting moment, she stopped off-loading to look about the land. It was beautiful. The sigh that fled her lips couldn't be helped. But, she must remember, they were here to inhabit and take over, to destroy some of this natural beauty for the sake of power. And, this gorgeous landscape held unseen dangers as well. She just hoped she didn't have to bandage too many settlers.

Gabriel used his magic to try and help unload the supplies onto the beach before he was approached by the captain of their ship. They had settled on the beach of the largest island and were facing a long, wide beach with all sorts of unusual-looking trees at the edge of the sands forming a forest ahead with a small range of mountains toward the heart of the island. "Look alive, son," the captain said to him. "I need you to get some men together and scout out a source of fresh water. Try to stay in sight of the beach."

Gabriel nodded and unbuttoned his shirt to relieve some of the heat. He still never removed the fingerless gauntlet on his left hand, despite how must have imagined how uncomfortable it was. He shook out his mane of black hair, curled from sweat, and asked a cabin boy to retrieve his daggers from his room.

Once he had his weapons, he took up a machete and waved it in the air, using the reflective blade to catch others' attention. "Ho! I need five volunteers for a scouting expedition!"

Approaching the man with the machete, she gave a half-salute, smirking. "Ready for duty. I'll help." Even with a voice as soft as hers, her husky tone allowed for the illusion of 'man' in a passable manner.

Her long scabbard was strapped to her back, the hilt of her sword in easy reach over her right shoulder. The rest of her weapons were hidden in the many folds of clothing drapped over her form.

"Water scouting?" she asked, just to be sure.

Looking to see if anyone had answered the call for scouting Cynn said "Let me go get my blades and I'll help."

She leaned over and kissed the cheek of the large man she'd been in competition with and told him he had won the bet. The man had the grace to look almost pale after hearing of his victory.

Cynn ran back to the hold where she'd bunked down and belted her blades to herself then went back to the beach. "So how many are we up to now?"

Michael was just setting down a crate when he heard the call. He grabbed his staff and trotted up to the forming group. Ishira appeared in the sky on the way. She landed on his shoulder just as he reached the group. “I’m somewhat accustomed to life in the forest. I could be of help to you.”

Kyara had been watching the endless sea from the beach when she heard the shout and turned, walking over to the group. "I'll help as well" she said as she watched the man with the machete. Turning her eyes to the forest, she let her gaze wander, looking for any source of food, her survival instinct kicking in.
