Ordinarily, Anon comments are snarky, hit-and-run slam pieces. Not today!
My latest story, You've Lost That Loving Feeling, is a Romance (not an LW because there's an HEA) that involves a husband who happens to overhear his wife (who he absolutely adores) in a conversation, saying she's considering cheating on him with her ex-husband. Current hubby doesn't bother to have a discussion, instead he reacts to the betrayal by going full-on nuclear.
The Anon picked up on the nuances of the story, and his/her comments reflect that:
"I have to laugh at the people saying he went to far, that he was an A-hole and was wrong to go scorched earth. I wonder if they read the first page at all. IF he hadn't opened the screen door and smashed the vase on the floor. If he had not stepped in she was as good as in her ex's bed. To write it as a picture with words, She was already out the door and was in the process of closing it behind her when he stepped in. Mentally she was already there, Emotionally she was 95% of the way there, Physically, she was over 70% of the way there. That's 265 out of a possible 300, if you don't get it that this is the perfect time to go nuclear then you don't know how to fight for what's yours.
If he hadn't stepped in, there was no chance, even though he wanted to wring her neck, even though he didn't give her any chance at the very beginning, even though he wanted nothing more to do with her. It was the Sand Bag to her head that she needed to wake the F-up. No his actions, although he didn't know it at the time, were completely justified and the only way they had any chance to get back to firm ground. He was absolutely 100% right to do what he did and that's the only thing that saved them in the end."
So, sincerest thanks to the Anon, wherever they may be!
