Figured I'd throw this idea out there while I am still here and see if anyone is interested.

My idea for this is to have an exploration spaceship, but the crew are all androids. We still have thoughts and feelings and sensations, and are primarily organic in appearance. However, our flesh is made of a much stronger material that self-heals rapidly due to nano-enhanced cells. Underneath the synthetic skin and muscle, we have skeletons made of a nearly indestructible metallic alloy, artificial organs, and positronic brains. Many of us have also been designed with various abilities and superpowers.

The story is set in an alternate reality where "English" is known as Archadian, and the capital of the United Systems Federation is a planet called Archades (pronounced Ar-Kay-Dees). Society operates using the Hagorian Calendar, which was implemented centuries ago when the major factions of the Traverse Wars signed the Treaty of Archades and formed the Federation. It lists "Federation Time" as twenty-four hours a day, five days a week, six weeks/thirty days a month, and ten months/three hundred days a year. Most work schedules have people with four workdays and then a day off, and these days are titled Naumday, Suutday, Sedwenday, Ruthasday, and Fahsatday. The months are titled after their numbers -- Onetember, Twotember, Threetember, Fourtember, Fivetember, Sixtember, Seventember, Eighttember, Ninetember, and Tentember.

At the start of our story, it's Twotember 5th 704 H.Y. (Hagorian Year). We are a group of androids that were previously used as sex slaves, laborers, guards, and enforcers on the Outer Edge systems under control of crime lord Audelus Ligerdine, one of the key figures of the Syndicate. Worlds in the Outer Edge of the galaxy are technically beholden to Federation law, which gives androids the same rights as any citizen. So, we are "free citizens" in theory, but in practice, we are property. The Syndicate-controlled systems are so far out of the government's reach, the laws are rarely enforced there.

For many Roids, as we call ourselves, there is no hope. But for us, things are different. We are purchased by a rich old scientist who upgrades our bodies and brings us to peak condition and performance. Unlike many other android owners, Dr. Traun is kind and gentle. He actually pays us wages and staffs us aboard his cargo/passenger spaceship, the Equinox. Some of us were assigned specifically due to our strengths, such as Navigator, Security, Engineer, Medic, etc. Also aboard is a female A.I. entity known as Verra that handles communications and auto-piloting and can manifest as a hologram within the ship.

My main character will be a military-grade assault unit named Ottobaun, who just goes by Baun for short. He was used as chief of security for decades at Talasko Manor, which was owned by a very prominent family. But when that family fell due to skirmishes within the Syndicate, Baun passed through a number of hands as either security or enforcer. He spent a number of years being rented as a mercenary before Dr. Traun purchased him and loosened the restriction protocols programmed into his Control Box, an illegal brain implant used in many androids.

After a mission puts us at odds with Ligerdine, Dr. Traun is fatally wounded. But before the good doctor passes, he activates a killswitch that he had installed in our Control Boxes, deactivating them and releasing us from direct control. His last words urge us to defend our freedom at all costs, and never let others control us again. As he dies, we stand there realizing we are finally free. Will we avenge Traun, fight Ligerdine, and free other androids? Will we return to the Federation and live as free citizens? Will we venture off on our own in the Equinox and be mercenaries or pirates? Let's find out :D.
