Terry Baker dropped into the café booth across from an older woman, greeted her politely, then -- upon the waitresses quick arrival -- ordered, "Coffee, black. And one of those delicious apple thingies you gave me last time."
The waitress acknowledged his request and departed. The woman across from Terry -- who was now and always had been all business -- glanced to the folded newspaper sitting near the condiments. She said softly, "New assignment."
"But, Sara, I'm already on the--"
"New assignment," she interrupted quietly but no less firmly. "The embassy case can wait. This is urgent."
Their simple-to-fill orders came, and once the waitress was again gone Terry slid the newspaper closer and opened it to reveal a manila envelope. He reached inside and pulled out the top sheet of paper, 8-1/2 x 11 inch color photocopy of a photograph of a pretty, young woman.
"Her father is -- officially, anyway -- the Vice President for Coordination of International Shipping for USAID," Sara explained as Terry eyed the sweet young thing. "He has an office here in D.C., but he spends most of his time in Ankara."
"And unofficially?" Terry asked knowingly.
"Senior Officer, Coordination of Clandestine Operations," Sara told him. She waited for the waitress to pass by with a couple destined for a back booth, then continued, "If it's undercover and it happens between Tunis and Tehran, Moscow and Mogadishu, he knows about it ... and likely has a hand in it."
Still looking at the image of the young face before him, Terry asked, "And you want to try to get to him through his daughter."
"We were getting to him through his daughter," Sara began. "We had a man close to her."
"And did he get anything?"
"Yeah, dead," Sara told him. When Terry looked up with a confused expression, she laughed, "No, she didn't kill him. He was hit by a bus."
"That guy over on Madison Ave'?" he asked, unaware that the man killed on the streets had been "S Directorate", like him. "So ... you want me to replace this guy. What's the cover...? Teacher? Co-worker? Neighbor?"
"Lover," Sara said softly but bluntly.
Terry laughed, looking back at the picture again before saying in a whisper, "She looks like she's fourteen years old."
"She turned eighteen two months ago," Sara corrected. "Legally, she's an adult now, but ... I can tell you that from your predecessor's reports, she's been very much conducting an adult life for quite a while now."
Terry looked at the picture once more before closing the newspaper around it. Sara continued, "Find a way to meet her. Get close. Get closer... enough to get into her house. Find a way to keep tab's on daddy's travels. The man's as slippery as an eel. By the time we've learned that he's out of the country, he's usually done with his clandestine work and on his way home. We need to know when he's heading out before he heads out."
"I'll find a way," Terry told Sara with confidence. He stood, pulled the newspaper and its classified contents under his arm, and -- before turning and leaving -- told the woman, "Eat that apple thing. It's to die for."
(OOC: The plot is similar to one of the story lines in the 3rd season of "The Americans". Terry is an agent for the Federal Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, the successors to the KGB. His mission and the girl are roughly explained above. I am looking for someone who likes a lot of story with their sex, not the other way around. The young woman is a bit of a rebel: sex, drugs, rock and roll, baby. PM me if you want to learn more.)
