Jason was tired. He had been up to his eyeballs in paperwork for the last three days as well as trying to juggle all the orders that were coming in and going out. Normally he would have his competent secretary Helen to deal with all this but she was off having her second litter of babies. It was a joyous time for the pack and he could not have her working at a time like this. Heaven knew how dangerous it was for them to give birth at the best of times. She was off for the next three months to have her babies and raise them until they started walking. One of the advantages of being part wolf was the short pregnancy, and that your babies developed quickly in the first year. The disadvantage of course was that you tended to have four to six kids and mortality rates could be high. So far though in his pack there had been no deaths with the three pregnancies that had occurred. He put that down to having a doctor within the pack and her guidance during them. He was not above listening to good advice from lesser ranks within his pack when he needed it unlike some other Alphas and it had proven invaluable at times and this was one of them. They now had 15 healthy children added to the pack and more on the way with Helen's second lot on the way.

Of course he wasn't really thinking to kindly of her right at this moment. She was supposed to have arranged for her replacement and she had assured him she had. A girl from within the pack called Debbie who had filled in for her before last time she had been pregnant and a few times she had been sick was supposed to have come in. However that Monday when she didn't show Jason had waited until lunch and then had hunted out her number and called her home. He got her roommate and was informed she was on a holiday retreat and wouldn't be back for another two weeks. She looked at her friends calender and she had marked down the job for next month. Jason thanked her and then started to panic. He knew no one else in the pack could do the job and some of the things he had to do were pack sensitive so having an outsider here would prove complicated but he could not run his business without someone to do the paperwork and answer the phones.

Finally he relented and called a Temp agency explaining exactly what he needed. Someone for 3 to 4 months, that could answer phones and book meetings, could balance books using his computer system and make sure his stock was being routed correctly. Of course he would be helping with the last two but he wanted an independent person as well, he found it better to have two sets of eyes to catch any discrepancies.

The agency said the thought they had just the person he was looking for and would send her out on Thursday. He sighed at the delay but it was the best they could do. He was to look out for a Sasha and she would be there at 9am sharp. Jason thanked them and new he would have to stay late Wednesday night just to get the books in some semblance of order so she could start with a clean slate. Looked like he was sleeping on the cot in his office again.

Sasha was worried as she went to her work place for the next few months. This was her first job at the new agency she worked at and she hadn't had a lot of time to prepare. She thankfully had done jobs like this before. She had been at another agency but they had changed location and had suggested this new job instead of having her move. They had given this agency a ton of good references though so she got a really good pay.

She got the parking lot and looked at her watch. She only had one because looking at her phone for the time was a hassle. It was 5 minutes till 9 and she smiled. It was perfect. She got her stuff and locked her car. Thankfully she only had to push a button. She then went inside and told the receptionist who she was. She was quickly given directions on where to go and she got to his door with 2 minutes to spare. After making herself look presentable she knocked on the door right at 9 and put on her best smile, she was now worrying if she had underdressed in a comfortable t shirt, jeans and sneakers, but she worked best when comfortable and it was black too. She pondered over this as she waited.

Jason heard the knock and woke up. groggily he looked over at the clock and realized that he had slept in and that it was already nine o'clock. Quickly he got out of his temporary bed and made himself look presentable. Moving through his office to Helen's he opened the door and was confronted by one of the most beautiful women he had ever seen. She was dressed in casual clothing but he didn't mind that as Helen used to wear the same things.

"Uh hi. I'm Jason. Sorry about my appearance and that of the office. I was up all night trying to put the books and everything else in some semblance of order for you to start with. I think I got most of it done," he smiled sheepishly.

He gestured her in and had her sit down in the comfortable chair behind the desk. "I am assuming you are the girl the agency sent over, Sasha right?" At her nod he continued. "As I said I'm Jason or on the rare occasions when it is needed Mr Wolfman," he grinned. "You are taking over from Helen who has gone on maternity leave and the girl who was supposed to fill in who thought the job was next month," he sighed. "I am sorry to throw you in at the deep end but I have been trying to do my own job and hers for a week now and it just hasn't been working as you can see. I have tried to keep up with the basics but there are probably things I have missed but Helen left a list in her draw of what was supposed to be done. I am willing to pay for any overtime you need to catch up and if you need any meals here I will provide them. I normally eat here myself," He chuckled.

"Your job basically entails doing the payroll every 2 weeks, tracking my inventory both in and out, doing my secretarial work and on occasions accompanying me to formal outings. I will be paying for any dresses and shoes you need for these occasions of course," he said looking at her," In fact it might just be easier if I just take you shopping."

While he had been talking he had not been able to take his eyes off of her and he felt a growing sense of attraction to this woman. What was happening to him? This had never happened to him before. Oh sure he had been attracted to females and once a year all the females in the pack became especially alluring to him, but this was something radically different. It was if he was being drawn to her.

"So what do you say Sasha. Are you up to the job?"

Sasha smiled brightly as the door opened and was suprised at how handsome he was. Not that she didn't expect him not to be she thought to herself, just not as attractive as he seemed. She really didn't notice men much. It wasn't that she was snotty, at least she didn't think so. It was just she wasn't really into dating. She had closed up after her first boyfriend had tried to go too far too soon. He had even tried to force her but thankfully she had still been living with her parents then. She had come to just think of guys as friends and put that accident to the back of her mind, along with seeing men as attractive, until today.

She listened as he introduced himself and apologized for the mess. "Oh that's alright. It's very nice to meet you. I'm actually thankful you did what you could. With your permission maybe I could straighten your office sometime. I'm sorry that was too forward." Sasha kicked herself mentally. Way to ruin any chance of a non awkward relationship, she thought to herself. She still smiled though, trying to keep her professional image, what was left anyway.

She walked in at his gesture looking around and sat down, not crossing her legs, but keeping them close together. When he asked her if she was Sasha she nodded, not trusting her voice and words as she looked at him, and tried to hide that she was staring, but couldn't tear her eyes from him so just looked at his face. She smiled and tried not to giggle as he said Mister Wolfman and then listened as he explained some things. He apologized again and she smiled and shook her head, but waited to say anything. When he chuckled she spoke then. "It's alright. You really don't have to pay overtime. I usually go overtime on my own anyway and I can understand about being swamped, when you are trying to do 2 jobs.

She then went back to listening as he spoke of her job and noted everything in her mind, having a good memory. He then said about dresses and taking her shopping and blinked. Wow these people seemed rich. She hardly ever wore dresses evenat her jobs, but guessed it might be nice at this job. The people seemed nice and it was her first job at her new company so she didn't want to offend by saying no to dresses. She reminded herself to be careful though. She didn't want to mess up by getting too much and having them dislike her that way either.

She then noticed that even as she was thinking about all this her eyes had not moved from his eyes and she blinked in suprise and listened at his last question and smiled. "I think i'm up to it. I just hope I don't disappoint."

Jason was very happy that she had taken the job. In fact he would have done anything to make her take the job. For some reason he wanted her around as much as possible. He found himself looking at her a lot more than he usually did at other women and he even admitted to himself that he was checking her out. Of course this was stupid of him, she was not a member of his pack or any other pack as far as he could tell. She smelled like a typical human, and while he might be able to have some fun with her he could not have a relationship with her. That was reserved for pack members only. Still his heart was telling him to go for it, not his balls for once and with him that was very strange.

"Well Sasha welcome to Lupin Import/Export. For today I think you should read Helen's notes and try to get what she has written done. If you need any directions or help just ask. I will take over the phone duties so you are not disturbed today. I think the bookwork is a lot more important than answering a phone," he smiled. "Once you have a handle on things if you could give me a rough estimate on how long you think it will take to get back to a sense of normalcy around here that would be great. Oh and I will be springing for lunch. I have a bit of work to do today as well so we can eat in my office. Don't worry I will tidy it up a bit," he told her with a smile. "I know it looks like a bomb hit it but it is actually controlled chaos. It doesn't take me long to sort it all out."

He glanced at her and again his heart skipped a beat. "So what do you enjoy to eat? Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Pizza?"

Sasha had a hard time listening to him. She just wanted to stare at him. She of course got herself to listen, but it was hard not to look at him. He just looked so handsome. She shook that thought off, other memories burning into her mind. Reminding her she can never be off guard with men. She was glad when he said about the phone and nodded at the lunch thing. She almost giggled at his comment about his office, but kept it under control. He then asked about lunch. "Actually if you don't mind Japanese sounds lovely." She always liked ramen and other Japanese foods.

"Japanese it is then," he said. "I can have this great little place around the corner send us over a couple of bowls of Ramen and a sushi platter if that's okay with you?"

Glancing around her office he shrugged. "Well you have your work cut out for you so I will leave you to it."
He was reluctant to leave but knew he better or he would just stay and talk to her for hours to be with her. He waved goodbye and reluctantly retreated to his office.

After surveying the mess he sighed and got to work. All his latest sales jobs he put to one side as well as the latest sales predictions. The overseas market figures he put in their folders and filed them on the shelf. The sales receipts and the books he quickly put in the tax file cupboard and made sure he had entered them all on the computer.

By this time he could actually see his desk again and his office was beginning to look like an office once again. he had fielded a few calls from clients and set up a couple of meetings, and assured a few more that their packages were definitely en-route. In fact because of his tracking system he was able to tell them exactly where they were and when they would get them. By this time it was almost lunch so he called the restaurant and ordered their lunch. He had a good deal with them. He supplied a few specialty items for them and he got major discounts from them. By the time the front desk paged him to let him know his order was here his office no longer looked like a bomb had hit it and there was a nice clear space in front of his couch to eat.

He walked out and told Sasha to take a break and to meet him in his office for lunch and then went to get it. He hoped she would like what he ordered. For some reason her approval meant a whole lot to him.

Sasha smiled as he agreed to Japanese, saying he had a place. "That's great." He then left her to her work and she began quickly. She got out the other secretary's notes and began following the instructions. Boy there was a ton of work. She did a lot of it though and with no phone calls the stack of work was shortening. She smiled as she thought of her temporary boss. For som reason she wanted to please him more than she had wanted to please bosses at other jobs. She was pretty sure if he kidnapped her she wouldn't care, but shook that off, getting back to work.

Around lunch time she was sort of proud of herself. She had done so much. She turned her head towards her boss as he came and was glad about the mention of food. She finished what she was doing and then pulled herself away from doing more going into his office. It seemed he had also done a lot and she sat on the couch just a little nervous.

Jason walked back into his office and was once again captured by her beauty. He almost forgot what he was doing there and then the heat from the soups reminded him. Smiling he walked over and placed the bag down and then the box of sushi. Pulling out the two large bowls he placed one in front of her and took the other for himself. Then he handed her some chopsticks and a soup spoon and a couple of napkins and then sat down beside her.

"I hope you don't mind, I just ordered a combination meat Ramen. I hope that's okay but if you have a favorite one just tell me and I will remember for next time. I often get the seafood Laksa myself as well."

He smiled at her as he broke his chopsticks apart then took off the cover on his bowl releasing the wonderful aroma. Breathing deeply he smiled and drooled a little as all of the smells hit his more than average senses. Oh they still weren't as good as what they were when he was in his wolf form, but they were still vastly above a normal humans and they were all telling him this was an excellent bowl of soup.

He dived in and began eating and watched as she did the same. She even ate daintily. He just could not get over how perfect she was. Even her scent was magical. It rolled of her in waves and filled his nostrils and was causing him to become slightly aroused. Feeling a little guilty at his reaction he began to talk.

"So Sasha tell me a little bit about yourself. How long have you been doing this sort of work? Where are you originally from? Have you got a boyfriend?"

What the hell!! he thought to himself. Where had that last question come from? Damn he shouldn't have asked that, what if she thought he was hitting on her? He could get in a lot of trouble for that and it was only her first day. Damn he couldn't take it back or really make light of it, he would just have to see how she took it.

Sasha smiled as her boss walked into the office with the food. It smelled good. "Oh that's fine. I do like the sound of seafood though." Sasha took her spoon and got some of the broth gently drinking some first. It tasted so good! She then broke the chopsticks and ate the noodles. She ate peacefully for a few minutes before his questions she turned towards him, but paled at the last one. She set her stuff down. "I've been doing this kind of work since almost the end of highschool. I was taking college courses then while in high school and just need a few more so I could do this. I actually come from Indiana." She then took a deep breath. "I also haven't had a boyfriend since I was 16." She still knew there was a hint of iciness in her voice. She just hoped he didn't hear it as memories tried to drown her.

Jason could hear the hurt and pain in her voice as well as the steel. It seemed as if there were some bad memories associated with her last boyfriend and he was not sure he should dredge them back up. Then again he never could stand to see a woman in pain and it was obvious that she still was.

He was torn. On the one hand he was just her new boss and he really didn't have the right to pry into her life, while on the other hand he had already taken such a shine to her he already thought of her as a close friend and wanted to do all he could for her. He had never felt this way about someone he had only just met before. It was almost like she was a member of his pack and he was prepared to fight to make her his mate. He had not felt this way about any other female he had ever met and he wondered what was going on. He would have to go and see the elders tonight and have a long talk. Maybe they could sort out what was going on with him.

In the meantime he had to figure out what to do. He glanced at her out of the corner of his eye as he ate his Ramen. She still had a cool look on her face but it was gradually fading. He decided to leave it for now until he could discuss it with her when he had built up more of a relationship with her. He would just try to stick to safe topics for now.

"So What brings you out here then? Not that I am complaining mind you. Indiana's loss is definitely my gain, and it looked like you have already done a ton of work out there so I know you are very competent. I think you are going to be a great addition to my business."

Sasha was in a whirlwind of memories each hitting her hard and threatening to break her. It was all so much that she almost didn't hear her boss ask his question. She looked over quickly shaking her suprised look off her face. "Well the last comany I was with moved and last time I decided to move as well since there weren't any other jobs of this kind close to me. This time though there was so I stayed." Sasha went silent for a minute eating a little then a question came to her. "What about you? How long have you been working here?"

Jason was at a loss about asking about that boyfriend. If he ever saw the guy he was liable to rip the guys throat out, literally. Anyone that caused someone to have that look on their face, male or female, had to have done some pretty awful things to them. However he had a question to answer.

"Me, I have been out here about Ten years now. Came out when I was eighteen and started working here on the floor in shipping. Worked my way up and four years ago I took over the business. It is sort of a family run thing so if you are thinking it was a quick rise to power that could be why. Still I know how every part of this company works from the ground up, that is why I like to keep my staff happy. We all feel like one big happy family."

If only she knew that most everybody working here was a pack member. He ran one of the biggest packs in the continent of the US and he was lucky that he had good Betas and that they took very good care of the day to day running of the Ranch area were most of the other work was done. He was not like a lot of other Alpha leaders. He was fine with his pack members living and working in the city and having their own lives. They were free to have children and if they turned out to be Were then they would be welcomed into the pack. All he asked for was 10% of their wages was donated for the upkeep of the pack and that every Sunday they come to the Ranch for meetings. The full moon was also reserved for the run. Their were also a few laws about traveling to another packs territory and unauthorized hunting, changes and such but they were pretty straight forward.

It was also strange that he had never mated but the elders had agreed that he had to wait for his soul mate to appear and he would know her. Wolves mated for life and each one knew the other pretty quickly. Casual sex was fine but a mate was something different. Although lately he was starting to feel the pressure. Four years and still no mate. Their were rumblings that he should stand down even though under his leadership the pack had prospered like never before.

"So what do you like about this place? Your friends, The night life, The restaurants. There must be something keeping you around. A beautiful woman like you could get a job anywhere she wanted."
Whoops he had done it again. Something about this woman was just encouraging him to flirt with her and he couldn't stop himself.

Sasha listened quietly as Jason talked. To be honest she was only half listening. The other half was a big chaos battle. One part of her felt like she wanted to kiss him, one part of her was trying to hold her back and one was trying to keep everything in order and failing miserably. She didn't understand it. What was it about this guy that was messing her up this much, in a good way, but still messing was messing. Well you could start with his strong features, or how he seemed to be really smart or the way she could melt into his eyes. That last thing suprised her even as she thought it and she shook herself mentally.

Sasha snapped out of her thoughts and laughed, shaking her head. "Actually I don't know why I'm here. Except I actually probably couldn't get another job. I don't have any friends really, the restaurants are okay, but not enough that I would stay because of them, but actually and this may sound stupid, but I feel like I'm drawn here and that if I leave i'll miss out on something important. Sorry, I know that probably sounds crazy."

Crazy, no Jason knew exactly what she meant. Ten years ago he had left his own pack and traveled halfway across the country to here for some reason to apply for a job. Six years later he had challenged the Alpha for the pack leaders position and instead of a fight he had just backed down and decided to exile himself even though Jason had asked him to hang around. So he knew precisely what she meant when she said she was drawn to some place.

Of course he was also feeling drawn to her, and he wondered what that was all about. He had to get to the Elders but he also wanted to ask this lady out. However he had known her for all of about half an hour and she had only started working for him that morning. It had to be totally inappropriate right? There was no way he should do it.

"So Sasha if you have no friends keeping you here you have to let me take you out. Everyone here normally gathers at a local watering hole after work for a few drinks before heading home, or we could even have dinner there. The food is excellent and their steaks are to die for. The juiciest you have ever had I guarantee it. However if you don't like steak they serve everything including vegetarian dishes. So what do you think?"

Sasha was suprised when he asked her about hanging out after work. "Oh sure. Steak actually sounds delicious. I've always had a thing for meat. I could never understand how vegetarians do it, but that's just me." Sasha smiled warmly, actually glad at an opportunity to go enjoy herself and that she had taken the offer. Which made her curious. What had made her take the offer? She hadn't even thought of it, she just said yes. Even now she knew she hadn't want to say no and wondered what was going on. She pushed that to the side though and ate the rest of her lunch, and then got up. "I better get back to work. The more I get done the sooner everything gets to a more normal pace."

Jason smiled and watched her leave and definitely noticed her cute rear end on it's way out and her heavenly scent. Oh hell something was definitely wrong with him. It was like he was in a rutting spell. He had been in a similar sort of thing before when four of the females had been in heat on one of the full moon runs and couldn't help but present themselves to the alpha. If they had been single he might have taken them, but all four had been married and highly embarrassed the next day. It was just one of those things though. In wolf form natural instinct sometimes overrode the human part of the brain.

However at the moment he was human, so what the hell was going on. As far as he knew she was Human as well and while she might be a little excited, probably about getting the job, she was certainly not in heat let alone sexually excited.

Still for the rest of the day he went around doing his work with a big grin on his face and was able to get double the amount of work done because he felt so good. By the end of the day his office was sorted out, his files were back in order and he had caught up on his paperwork and had even booked in 6 new jobs. It had been a great day. As the clock hit 5 he opened his door and glanced out. 'How you doing Sasha? It's quitting time, you ready to go?"

Sasha walked out still excited at the prospect of hanging out this evening. She thought that was probably why she got a lot more done than she usually did. She had just finished another task when she heard her boss. "Yeah, just let me get my bag." She went over and slipped it over her shoulder anf then turned her attention back to Jason. "Alright I'm all set." With that she followed Jason out. "How about I follow your car with my own to this place?" Sasha really didn't want to leave her car here and have to come back and get it so following him was the most reasonable solution. Even though she didn't even like the thought of going separately. What was wrong with her?

Jason smiled at her. "Of course you should take your car. It is only natural." Inside he had secretly hoped she would come with him so they could spend more time together. Damn that was wrong. What was he thinking, he couldn't have her thinking he was trying to get her to come home with him. "Just follow me it isn't far at all."

Most everyone else had already left so he jumped in his jeep and backed out and waited until Sasha was behind him before heading for the exit. It was only a ten minute drive and he made sure to keep her in sight the whole way, indicating early and changing lanes only when there was enough room for both of them.

He pulled into the parking lot of the DEN and waited for her to park. He had deliberately chosen a spot with a park next to his and hoped she would take the hint.

Sasha smiled and went to her car and followed him to the place, laughing a little as there was a parking space beside him. She took it and got out, going over by the door and then waiting for him. She did feel nervous though. She felt like she was somehow invading some kind of space and she didn't know why she felt that way.

Jason walked over and was about to put his arm around her as if it was the most natural thing in the world and had to physically stop himself. Whoa what was that about. It had been almost like pure instinct for him to do that. He was going to have to be very careful tonight if he was already behaving this way.

"Well Sasha welcome to the DEN, my home away from home. I have to admit as a bachelor this place has become one of my favorite places to eat in as well as drink in. It is very family orientated and never gets too rowdy, even on Friday and Saturday nights and the owners are some of my best friends. I will introduce you around, I am sure there will be a few people from work here as well."

He led her inside and towards the front bar first. Sure enough he caught sight of a group of about seven employees having drinks, All of them from the pack. There was a reason this place was called the DEN after all. It was an unofficial meeting place for the pack to meet up and have a good time and was also one of the designated Safe Houses in the city. After all they were not the only supernatural beings living here. Still the place was run by one of his Beta couples Steve and Janice. He was an ex marine and she was ex CIA. They had wanted a nice quiet life and so had migrated out here and started the Bar with his consent.

"Hey guys," Jason said walking up and shaking hands. "This is Sasha, she will be filling in for Helen for the next few months. Just treat her the same as you would her." That was his subtle signal to tell them she was okay and would work out. Everyone greeted her warmly and he nudged her and whispered, "What can I get you to drink?"

Sasha listened as Jason introduced her to the Den and she smiled. "It sounds like a nice place." She then followed him in looking around and stayed close to Jason quite nervous as she would probably be viewed as an outsider. Sasha kept her warm smile as he led her up to some employees and suddenly had an urge to do something. She didn't know what it was but part of her mind was trying to alert her of something. What was going on? She pushed whatever was happening at the back to her mind as Jason nudged her and asked her about a drink. "Dr. Pepper would be nice." With that she looked around and then her eyes landed on a woman and it suddenly clicked what had happened and that was all she could think of before trying to stare the woman down. She felt like she wanted to punch the woman. Now to explain this the woman had been looking at Jason with an almost flirty look and that caused Sasha to flip personalities though she didn't know why. Sasha was still trying to stare the woman down and didn't hear Jason come back till he was right next to her.

Jason was surprised when Sasha had ordered a Dr pepper but pleasantly so. He himself didn't drink that often so to find a woman that didn't mind not drinking was nice. He had made it to the bar and had ordered her drink and a lemon squash for himself and then had headed back towards her. he had noticed one of the younger members of the pack making flirty eyes at him as usual but paid it no mind. it happened all the time as they tried to use him to gain status within the pack. Even if they could get near him or sleep with him for just one night their status could go way up.

As he got closer to Sasha though he noticed something strange. She was giving the girl a death look. In pack terms it was almost as if she was warning her away and claiming Jason as hers. If that girl was foolish enough to come over here right now Jason was pretty sure Sasha would clobber her. His question was why? She was not pack but all her movements and body positions, even her scent was showing exactly what a female pack member would do. Just who was this girl? First things first though he needed to defuse this situation.

Bumping into her he watched as she seemed to come out of a trance and he handed her the drink. They chatted for awhile with the other employees and then he invited her to dinner. Maybe he could find out a bit about her over a meal.

When Jason came up and bumped her she seemed to come out of whatever weird thing she had been in. She was now worried. Her mom had always been there to be supportive and make her understand when she had these weird things. Like traveling to a different state. Sasha went and sat down with Jason and they chatted, but she couldn't understand glaring at that one girl. She had obviously been flirting with Jason, but that didn't matter right? Somewhere in her minds said 'yes it does matter', but she shook that thought away as he asked her to dinner. "Oh sure. I would be happy to." What the hell? What was wrong with her? Agreeing just like that? Was she insane?

Jason led her through a side door and into a quieter part of the Den. Walking along a small corridor they exited another small door and were in the dining hall. The decor was totally different and would not be out of place at a good restaurant. It looked nothing like one would expect to find at a Pub. A hostess led them to an intimate table and handed them a menu and then left. Jason didn't even pick his up. He knew what he was eating and really all they had to do was put his name down as his order.

He looked to Sasha and was ready to help her with any recommendations she might want. He had eaten here so many times this place was like a second home. Actually he considered this place and the Ranch his real homes and his actual home his second home.

"So do you need any help with that?" he asked "As I said before the steaks here are to die for. Of course you are spoiled for choice as well. Venison, Cow, Lamb, heck they even have Buffalo here," he chuckled.
