Clutch your pearls! Multiple incendiary reports:

Teen boys use AI to make fake nudes of classmates, sparking police probe

But when reading the actual article...no one has seen the alleged photos. "Now, police are investigating the incident, but they're apparently working in the dark, because they currently have no access to the images to help them trace the source."

From the WSJ: A boy told a girl another boy had made AI-powered porn of classmates. She reported him. In the ensuing witch hunt, more boys were ratted out. Yet, "Girl's parent's...who filed reports with local police....hadn't seen the images"

Cue ye olde 'pics or it didn't happen'

Never mind that it was likely photoshop or the like, not AI. Never let reality get in the way of a good moral panic!

I'm very much anti-moral panic.

But, if you know what's going on with AI video and deepfakes, you can understand why people might be overly jittery. It's a big deal.

Edit: I read your post again: "never mind that it was likely photoshop" = AI and deepfakes are not even close to being analogous to Photoshop FYI. Classic Photoshop requires a human to use the tool to alter an image - and the scope of what it has historically been able to do doesn't touch this stuff.
