The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Right now, the stupid of my administration is eating at me. (I'm also feeling my exit coming up imminently 79 more class meetings, including exams.

But now for something both sad and immensely happy at the same time. And for something for sirhugs and others battling diagnoses.

For those of you who do not know xkcd, this particular strip is a continuation of earlier ones. And is autobiographical. And makes me cry.

EDIT: Yes men cry. Get over it.
I remember the series, isn't this one a fantasy? I remember him getting a tattoo of three dots in her memory.

I noticed that phenomenon at every assignment I had in the military and with every engineering job I had after.
I could put up with their daily dumb, but as the time to move on came nearer, their stupid grew intolerable.
I mostly fixed this by consulting. Now when a client is being stupid I'm just hearing "kaching, kaching, kaching" in my head as the minutes tick over.

The big downside to consulting is the feast or famine nature. I had a project that was supposed to start in November and run through March, and the day of the project start I found out that over the weekend my role had gotten cut and given to another consulting company. It was annoying because I spent 3 months learning the tech required for the project, but on the up side I've got space for a V-Day story (and now you guys are subject to some of the more random thoughts that go through my head).

alas, I was told I was cancer free for seven years- the final scan before they discharged me from the surveillance program changed that.

Nothing like seeing people get old to remind you that aging is a *good* thing.

@iwatchus - That reminds me of my sister except its been 28 years. She is the only survivor of the experimental treatment they used in her clinical trial back in 1996 ...

It's raining and we're expecting another polar vortex just in time for Thanksgiving. Low of 23 degrees in the morning and high of 38 degrees. Cold but expecting sunshine so it won't be so bad.

There's a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. Donuts and cupcakes are on the counter. Looks like the apple cider was a big success ... not a drop left. The plot bunnies look dejected. I'll be working on side dishes for Thanksgiving today so maybe that'll perk them up ...

I'll be over in the corner working away on my story. I got another scene completed and hope to get another one done today. Then the big sex scene will be up ...

Polar Vortex, Alberta Clipper, Arctic Blast, Ground Blizzard, Lake Effect Blizzard, flurry, squalls, Moon Dogs, Sun Dogs, Block Heaters, kerosene heaters, and playing with the Mpemba Effect. I remember all those terms with a combination of disdain and utter revulsion.

I've since traded them in for Sunshine, beach weather, sunburn, drought, swamp, snake, gator, gator tail (chicken tastes like gator tail) hurricane, storm surge, snow bird, and Florgia.

I saw that today and thought of so many people!

I crossed 5K words in my Valentine's Story. It's a hot mess (note to self, that's a good title) and I love it. I can see where I want to land this one and I can see how to get there.
I'm at 15K and counting - which I am slightly freaked out about - in a story that started as two small lines of dialogue. I actually think neither of those lines are in the story anymore, even though the circumstances around them still are.

I was surprised to find only four stories named "Hot Mess" or "A Hot Mess" and a few more with "hot mess" included in the title. That's not bad.

In my stories it's pretty common for whatever detail started the story to get lost before the story is done. That's good. Stories grow in more than just length, and sometimes they outgrow their inspiration.

I was looking at my downloaded stats from a few months ago (which one is wont to do from time to time) and noticed an intriguing anomaly.

About a third of my near-100 tales have garnered the Scarlet H, but of all the stories with a title beginning after the letter 'S' (13 of them) only one gets the 'aitch, so less than ten percent.

Now, part of this can be dismissed as another Lit oddity (by including articles in sorting titles, my 'The Bikini of Brevity' really should be a 'B' title, not a 'T'') and so this therefore artificially distorts the alpha-sorting pattern.

But still, is this a sign I should only stick to story titles earlier in the alphabet? Are readers truly that finely tuned?

Is this a sign that I should be even more frustrated at the fact that there should have been a "Do" at the front of the title in my signature, but the character limit was too low?:ROFLMAO:

Been working on two stories this morning induced by forum plot bunnies. One about "notch counts" has taken on a life of its own. 😇
