The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Labooboo Duck (I don't get it either),
They're apparently an international phenomenon of some sort. I found out about them a few months ago when another site I was on had a contest about them. I won 2nd place somehow. I guess most of the people participating were really phoning it in.

Yeah, people tend to slack off on silly contests. That's how I handle The Halloween, Valentines Day, April Fools, and Nude Day contests.

Valentine's Day isn't a big contest? I would have thought that might be a popular one. (not challenging your assessment, this will be my first Valentine's Day on Lit)

I didn't say small or unpopular, I said Silly. I'm primarily a romance writer but personally I can't find anything romantic about being forced to be romantic. If you come up with a great story, go for it! I may take a romance scene and toss "Valentines Day" in the back ground. But cards and flowers and dinner out because that's what everyone else is doing on the same day just doesn't have a zing. (Side note, Mrs Duleigh and I fell in love when we confessed to each other that we hate VD We'll go do something nice on Presidents day. What could be more romantic than a candlelight dinner at Mt. Rushmore with the Marine Corps Band playing in the background?)

Gotcha, totally understand.

Not more romantic, but a card that says "I  you 1/0" works for my characters.

She might not look it, but Sexxi Foxx also likes math. Her dating profile starts off with "a train leaves Dallas, traveling east at 60mph. Two hours later, a train traveling west leaves ..."

a train leaves Dallas, traveling east at 60mph. Two hours later, a train traveling west leaves ..
she's a ♥️♥️♥️ RAILFAN! ♥️♥️♥️ Now that's romantic 🥰

I tried to do a romantic scene on an Amtrak train, but Amtrak has gotten soooo horrible. I screwed up and took a cross country journey before I wrote the scene. My disgust with how far Amtrak has fallen came shining through.

Problems with an algebraic solution are fine for a romantic dinner, but if she likes someone she takes them home for lingerie, oral sex, and the kind of spicy fluid flow rate problem that requires partial differential equations to express.

She'll marry the man who proposes a question that can only be solved numerically.

I keep reaching a point where I go, "Okay, now I jot down some notes and move back to my main projects." But that stupid sexy snake just keeps pulling me back.😒

Good morning everyone! It looks like the gel shot in my knee is starting to wear out. It doesn't hurt but I can feel the joint clicking and catching again. I guess I'll have to make an appointment and get it taken care of after Thanksgiving. We're expecting more rain today so it will probably be a washout.

I've got a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. There are donuts and a coffee cake on the counter. Please don't drop any crumbs on the floor to encourage the plot bunnies to hang around and get underfoot.

I'll be over in the corner working on my story. I got another scene completed so I may have it ready by the deadline. Even if I don't make it, I should still be able to get it published before Christmas.
my daughter manages to get four months (but the last 2 weeks are 'iffy').

it's day one after chemo. always a wild card as to side effects. Hopefully, usually, just fatigue, but even that is a bummer, esp. when I want to start writing again. Finding it tough to write the sex scene when I feel like this, but have already left one highlighted "insert sex scene here" gap, don't need a second.

Coffee may help.

New -> Folder -> "Valentine's Day Contest 2026"
New -> Google doc -> "Diary Day"
Coffee? check
Character that's been tuned with Brandon Sanderson's advice? check
Aversion to adverbs? check

Engine revs. Tires squeal. The writing for 2026 begins.
But some of us love adverbs... its those pesky adjectives that we wish the plot bunnies would eat more of.

Taking some days to play with my Muse (we played Strip Mario Cart, and we both played to lose. Also my Muse in the movie version will be played by Jason Mamoa) was a lot of fun. Today I knuckled down and got to work on a V-Day contest story. I got 1000 words (not trying to show up @sirhugs , but once the words started flowing they just kept coming out) and it feels really good. It feels like I hit the groove right away.

Flow is good. Right now I'm just trying to start slow and build my stamina.

As long as the words flow and keep going, it's all good.

Finally emptied the storage unit. About half went to charity shops, a third to the tip, and the rest will be moved. We then started on one of Bec's chest of drawers. Got rid of 20 pairs of socks, and some other stuff, then vacuum packed the rest.

And it's raining. We moved here in the rain ten years ago, and moving out in the rain.

***Sigh***

The rain we were supposed to get never really showed up, although we got a sprinkle or two. It's all gone now and we may even see a glowing ball of flame in the sky today.

There's a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. Donuts and cookies are on the counter and I plan to make a cornbread today.

I'll be over in the corner working on my story. I sketched out the ending and I've got a couple of more scenes to flesh out and I'll be done. The words are coming in dribs and drabs (whatever those are) but I am making progress. Once I'm done with this story, I'll have to figure out what I want to write next. I'll probably work on the next installment of Picture Postcards from LA but I really need to get back to working on my Opus 17 in D Minor: A Love Story in Four Movements.
