Do you respect the opinion of the younger folk at lit? Do you think they are stupid because they are younger?

Do you think that the older contributors to this fine BB are patronising?

Do you think you can generalize that people are acting their age here?

Halo :rose:

I think almost everyone is stupid.

Yes, older patrons are patronising.

I could generalize, but I won't. I believe some people act their age and some don't. I know I don't, but then I don't in real life either.

I think at times everyone acts like a bunch of horny 16 year olds despite whatever their real age is:D

I respect the opinion of anyone who can state is clearly and is willing to stand by their opinion...but I may change that depending on what everyone else says.

Age is just a number...I don't even know how old most of the people are, and it doesn't really matter to me. You can often get a sense for someone's age if you read enough of their posts, but sexy people are sexy people, funny people are funny people, dickheads are dickheads...age has little bearing.

I don't even know how old most of the folks around here are. But they're funny, so that's all that matters to me.

There are very few people who's ages I even know. That, and the fact that I've never been very good at acting my age (28), keep me from making judgements based on chronology.

People who post juvenile, worthless shit don't get my attention, regardless of how old they are. People who post stuff I want to read, get read.

Interesting Q ... To be honest, I seldom look at people's ages.

I think there are probably two ways to slice this.

One way is to look at age as a chronological construct (i.e. 24 years old)

The other is to look at it as the length of time you have participated on the board.

Depending on the subject, there are experiential values assigned to each. There are topics that require a historical perspective (either of Lit or the General world) - in those cases, older may be preferable.

However, being young doesn't necessarily mean that you a person knows nothing.

Having said all of this, I think I respect experience - period. If it happens to come in a shiny new package, then so be it. But being dusty and weathered doesn't always make one wise.

Eh? Why are you mumbling? Speak up, fer crissakes! And stop slouching!

An excerpt from a letter a dear friend wrote to me for my birthday that now sums up my feelings on this:

"...I celebrate the life that's been gained, not the time spent gaining. It is only a number, afterall. Irrelevant digits that we all use to try and replace (or represent) the amount of life lived..."

Halo :rose:

The only time I check out a poster's age is when I get the idea through the general tone of the post that they are young.

Unfortunately not all put their age down in their profiles.

But if I discover they are young then yes, I temper my own posts to suit someone who may not have the knowledge and personal experience that I have. I explain things more.

I don't know if that would be called patronising or considerate.

If I didn't know the age then I carry on regardless and they have to take it or leave it. Most leave it.

miles takes it:p

I only think people are stupid if their posts indicate it so. I don't regard age as a measure of stupidity...

I get annoyed when older people patronise me. I mean who the hell do they think they are for chrissake...

:D :D

Patronizing? Nah! They're just jealous because we still have all our original teeth.

Seriously, I'm usually shocked to find out anyone here is over 40. Youth is a state of mind. Especially when people can't see you.

I agree completely.

<runs back to profile and hastily amends date of birth>

:D

it doesnt bother me. if someone can put up with posting with me

i'll put up with them

I'll be 23 in June. I really don't think I act too juvinile; maturity has more to do with how you choose conduct yourself then how much experience you have. There are some 40 year olds I know who still act like they're 10.

Age of people on the board doesn't matter. Shoot how can you tell on this board anyway. Few people put the year of their birth in the profile.

Gunner got it right. sex is sexy, funny is fun, and well I won't berate the dickheads again. Ooops, I just did.

I would still be interested to know what age the oldest person in real life years.
