Ares has found a way to kill Gabrielle, in a torrid rip-roar of events. Gabrielle was sent to Hell. Our adventure takes it's foul twists and turns beginning with this event. Xena, in her love for Gabrielle, has summoned Hades, asking him to send her to hell.

Xena: "You know that she didn't deserve to die, she fell because of my mistakes. That isn't the way things work around here. Let me into hell.....that is all you have to do....:

Hades: "It is out of the question Xena, the only way you can get into hell, is the old-fashioned way."

Xena storms off, wandering the lands, in a half-crazed state, she has offered many to kill her. However, Ares has told the townspeople as well as his hench men to not lay a finger on Xena...or they will perish a horrid death.

Xena is frustrated and must get into hell. When she stumbles upon Hercules and Iaolus. Torn and beaten from starving herself as well as walking miles and miles through Greece, Xena starts a fight in an attempt to have Hercules kill her.

Hercules and Iaolus spot Xena, and hear of her misadventures. They hear of her beginning to burn down the village. They hear she has turned to her old ways. This is all part of Xena's plan.

Hercules

Hercules and Iolaus had heard of Gabrielle's death, and came to find Xena to offer their condolences. What they found, however, was a warrior princess driven mad with grief, ready to slay anyone and anything in her path.

Finally tracking her down, by following the trail of destruction, the heroes see Xena up ahead, preparing to burn down a village. No villagers or warriors are even trying to defend themselves, evidently too afraid of the enraged Xena to even approach her.

Hercules turned to his old friend, "Iolaus, I really don't like the looks of this at all. I don't want to hurt her, but I don't see how else to stop her. Maybe if I go up to her, I can talk her down out of her rage... I have to try, anyway."

Leaving Iolaus behind a short ways, the demigod approached Xena. "Xena! It's Hercules! I know what you are going through, Xena, but this isn't the way to deal with your pain. When Iolaus died, I thought part of my soul had been ripped from me, and I wanted to lash out at the whole world. It just won't help, Xena. It won't bring her back."

While he spoke, Xena paused, staring at him strangely, letting him get within arm's reach. "Xena, give me the torch... let's go talk." Hercules extended his hand to her.

Ares

I can't help to laugh as I see Hercules approach Xena. When the laughter dies down, I zap Xena again with a 'spell', enraging her even more.

"Ahhh Herc, you have made this plan of mine so much more enjoyable." I say as laughter echoes in my temple once again.

Xena, Warrior Princess

I stared at Hercules. His good nature and humor just causing me to laugh.

"Hercules..." I hissed. Thoughts ran through my head, and I wasn't thinking clearly. I didn't finish my thought.

Then it hit me. If I endanger a whole town, or even....Ioalus....Hercules...would have to kill me.

Suddenly, a feeling swept over me, I closed my eyes and swayed a bit. I felt Hercules' hand on my shoulder. I opened my eyes and my rage seemed to be thrice fold.

I am sure it could be seen in my eyes, the extreme pain and hatred.

My hand went to my sword. I sneered. The other hand had the torch. I cocked my head.

I waved the torch in front of a small hut. I smiled ...a cruel cruel smile.

Iolaus

"That's it, right there."
Iolaus drew back the bow, aiming it right at the torch. In an instant the torch fell from Xena's hand flying harmlessly into the street corner. It rolled a few times before sputtering out. The bow lowered as Iolaus looked on with great concern.
Nearly half of the village was on fire already, the rest was in shambles. Honestly, he felt that leaving Hercules would be a bad idea. Herc could take care of himself for a while anyway. What needed to happen was for these innocent townspeople to get out of the city now.
Running as fast as he could, Iolaus combed most of the city, looking for hurt people and warning other. The town was mostly evacuated already, which was good. He made sure the rest were there too. This was just terrible, and it was only the beginning.
A block away he could hear children screaming.
"Hang on, I'm on my way!"

Hercules

Hercules was watching Xena very carefully, and felt the surge of energy right before her eyes flared up with even more crazed rage... She smiled and moved the torch closer to the hut, but an arrow flashed in, knocking it from her hand. He smelled a rat's hand in this... an Olympian rat by the name of Ares, but Hercules had no time to worry about that right at the moment. Stepping up, he swiftly kicked sand on the torch, putting it out, then turned to face Xena.

Behind him, he heard Iolaus' voice as he ran to help the villagers. They were in good hands, and Hercules could focus solely on Xena now.

"Xena, you know I'm not going to let you hurt these innocents any more. Now stop this madness before it's too late."

Hades

Hades sat brooding on his ebony throne. The Wraith Maidens who surrounded him with their pale and chill beauty could satisfy him no longer.

Rising to his full height and higher levitating slightly off the serpentine marble of the floor of Hell he sends a summons.
She waits in the Outer Chamber, he has kept her there for a reason. But now it's time...

Gabrielle...open the door, please come in.

Gabrielle

Gabrielle heard the summoning and knew it was for her. Though, to be honest, she did not really recognize the name. Simply that the summons was sent to her.

She was foggy on where she was and how she got here. Visions kept flashing through her mind but she couldnt seem to pin any of them down in order to make sense of them.

Her visions did keep pausing on a certain face, however. A female with ebony hair and flashing eyes. It was almost as if this memory was the strongest in her mind and was trying to break through. To clear the fog that had encased her mind.

Trying to shrug off the feeling that she was not supposed to be here, she rose and entered the chambers.

Looking around, her eyes fastened on the man in front of her and she said,"Hello, why have you summoned me?"

autolycus

"hey it smells like a barbecue...hmm...maybe i can steal some good eats." *stomach growls loudly* "funny...i don't remember what village this is, oh well, it smells good at least."

i walk over the hill, "great, it's looting season and i forgot again. better go grab some of the goods while there's goods to be gotten."

Xena, Amazon Warrior

"It is too late Hercules. Too late. ...too late..." My voice began to trail.

I grabbed my sword, with a flash it was in my hand. "Hercules....there is nothing you can do TO stop me. "

I smiled an evil grin.

Flipping backwards, I caught a small child. Hercules would have to kill me before he got the child away from me.

I grinned again.

"Hercules.....there is one teensy tiny problem with your master plan of saving the world. "

He looked at me oddly....and he began to try to speak, he began advancing towards me.

"You will not be able to save everyone today. Sorry. You have two options. Kill me, or I kill the child."

autolycus

*with an armful of items, he approaches the pitiful trio*

"ah herc let her go. it's sad to see a nice piece of ass like her go, but hey...we all gotta go sometime...it's been fun xena, i'll have to look you up in hades sometime."

ooc: umm...if the plot was mailed to everybody i definitely didn't get it... lava godess *i know that's how you want it spelled anyway* umm, could you please send me a detailed email of what you would like autolycus' role to do??? i'm a little lost as to where i fit in... thanx!

Hades smiled at her and floated just a bit higher...she thought of him still as a 'Man'.

"I wondered if you would consider having supper with me. I have waited so long for someone to come who would listen to my story with a shred of sympathy. I had in fact given myself up to a life of lonliness and misunderstanding."

The Wraithes had reappeared, shocking in their pale skin and slender beauty, bearing an obsidian table and a soft couch of sable velvet.

"Please Gabrielle, make yourself comfortable. You are quite the lovliest thing in Hell you know."

Gabrielle

Gabrielle's face wrinkled in confusion. The 'man' before her had risen from the floor and now women....barely clad at that...appeared with food. Somehow she felt she should know what was going on but it elluded her as if it was teasing her on the edges of her memory.

"Gabrielle?," She said not approaching the table yet,"Is that my name?" Somehow it rang right and so she accepted it.

Sitting down at the table, she looked at all the food set before her and then at her host.

"I dont see why I shouldnt listen to you but will you tell me exactly what I am doing her and how I came to be here?," Ignoring the food for now she simply sits back and looks at the dark stranger, waiting for him to begin his tale.

OOC: Ummm...people do realize what happens if Gabby eats anything I hope....

Hercules

Hercules turned for a second to Autolycus and fixed him with a steely-blue-eyed stare... "Shut up now," was all he said before turning back to Xena.

"Xena, you never killed children!!! And I'm NOT going to kill you!" Her eyes took on a wild, crazed gleam as she tightened the grip on her sword. The glint in her eye told him she wasn't kidding. She was mourning Gabrielle and would do nothing short of getting her back, even...if it meant, killing a child. Maybe even Hercules himself.

The sword flashed out, then back, clearly about to sever the child's head from its shoulders. Hercules leapt forward, striking the sword from her hand. However, Xena's lightning reflexes allowed her to do an incredible somersault over the demigod's head, retaining her tight grip on the child.

When Xena landed, she struck the child on its chest, using her famous death touch. She grinned again, looking at her old friend. "You want to save the brat, Hercules? You just have to get through me!" With a blood curdling uluation, Xena threw herself at her shocked former companion, one of her best friends in all the world.

Hercules was dumbstruck that she would do this. "Xena, NOO!" He knew that the child only had a few minutes to live, and this impelled Hercules to fight all the more furiously. Unfortunately, Hercules had developed a bad habit when fighting normal humans... he always pulled his punches.

This habit was getting him in serious trouble. Xena, having retrieved her sword, had him cut and bleeding from any number of places. Hercules knew his normal fighing style would not save that child, so, with a heavy heart, he began to use all his divine strength.

Quickly, Xena was overmatched; Hercules pounded through her defenses, forcing her back. She hurled her chakram straight up, planning for it to land on the child.

The two warriors continued their battle as the chakram rose in the sunlight and the child's face grew whiter. As the chakram came flashing down, Hercules dived forward to move the child. He got to the child just ahead of the snarling Xena, and kicked her in the stomach just as the chakram came hurtling at them.

Hercules had put his entire strength behind that kick, which totally stunned Xena. Her body flew back through the air, only to land in the exact same spot as the child had been. Hercules realized what had just happened, almost immediately, and set the child down.

However, it was too late. Xena, paralyzed from the force of Hercules' blow, could only stare in odd satisfaction as the odd weapon which had saved her life countless times screamed through the air straight at her, striking her in precisely the spot where her carotid arteries were easiest to penetrate

Xena managed a clear-eyed smile at Hercules, covered in their blood, as he cradled her in his arms. "Why, Xena? Why?!!" Her smile never faded as she lay in his arms, and quietly died.

As he looked at the still form in his embrace, he was flooded with memories of the way she smiled, the way she laughed, and of all the feelings he'd had for her, yet never expressed. There would always be time later, had been his feelings on the matter. Now, crushed, he realized that there would never be a 'later'.

The village shook from the sounds of a demi-god screaming in denial... "XEEEENNNAAAA!!!"

Aphrodite

As the sound of Hercules...well Herculean...yell echoed through the village, there was a shimmer and sparkle on the horizon that heralded the entrance of yet another player in this saga.

When the sparkles crystalized, Aphrodite...sister to Hercules and very womanly goddess....stood looking around the village with a look of disgust on her face.

"I knew it!," She said hands on hips and an irritation in her voice,"I knew I felt bad vibes. And the week before the big festival in honer of yours truly. Just what am I supposed to do now? There is no way they can fix this up and prepare offerings in that time. And I spent all day on a dress just for the occasion!" A pout came to her lips as she surveyed the scene of devistation.

"Ohhhh....I can feel Ares' hand in this. Just wait till I get my hands on him. He KNEW this was supposed to be a big event. I'll make sure his followers get such a good dose of love sickness that they wont be able to fight for weeks! Cupid!"

It was at that moment that her eyes fell on Hercules and the limp form he was holding and the name of her son died on her lips. Letting her rant as well as her temper calm down, she carefully picked her way around the debris and closer to the demi-god.

Moving over to Iolaus, she allowed Hercules' friend to see her.

"Bummer," She said in a saddened tone but one not hidden to Herc's ears,"She got what she wanted, huh? I mean I thought Hades was exaggerating when he comes up to Olympus and starts complaining about Xena wanting to get in to Hell. I mean, honestly, who would believe that someone actually asked to get into a place like that? Talk about needing a decorator! Hades hasnt redone the place in centuries!"

"And the pets he keeps," She allowed herself a shudder,"Far be it for me to talk about someone's beloved pets but, please...three heads? Three times the doggy breath if you ask me."

"You cant throw a party cause no one wants to eat the food there. The dead are never lively," She almost winced herself at the pun,"And its way too hot and stuffy down there. Why Xena would keep bugging Hades to get in is beyond me. Okay, Ares was playing dirty as usual and killed her friend off. Mortals tend to die....."

She broke off the statement and bit her lip. "Oops. Not the best way to put that I guess." Moving from Iolaus to Hercules, she said,"Sorry about that, little bro. I know how you felt about her. Duh, I mean that is my department, right. Hey, she wanted you to do this. Word is she has been trying to get past the way Hades is a stickler for rules. You know....'Once in hell, the dead cannot go back to the world of the living.' That kind of thing. I dont know what she thought to accomplish by dying before her time. Seems now she is trapped there along with Gabrielle. I wonder if Hades is prepared for the bookkeeping nightmare this is going to cause?"

I quickly glance around at the other damned souls and demons, then turn my attention back to the doorway.

I heard that Gabrielle had been killed and was now in Hades.

loud, wicked laugh

I'm sure poor Xena is going crazy if that's true. I would give anything to be back on earth so I could see the despair she must be going through. Oh, how I'd rub it in her face. She had taken my entire family from me, the bitch. I wonder how she likes being on the receiving end of grief. Hopefully, I'll be able to thank the person responsible one day.

I snatch an apple away from one of the weaker demonlings. Since I've been in Hades, I've transformed from one of the damned into a demon of sorts. Because of the hatred I still carry for Xena, perhaps?

I know she'll try to 'rescue' her beloved Gabrielle and when she does, I'll be waiting.

Hercules

Hercules looked up from the bloodstained form cradled in his arms. His half-sister, the goddess Aprhodite had arrived moments ago, but it took a little time for her presence to sink in past his overwhelming grief. He fixed her with his piercing gaze, his face streaked with tears, and asked her, "What do you mean, she was trying to get in to Hades' realm? She couldn't get Gaby out, regardless, unless... Unless the only reason Gaby is there is from a god's plots!" A look of utter disgust and fury was plain upon the hero's face as he uttered the name of his hated half-brother, "Ares."

Aphrodite

Aphrodite rolled her eyes and gave out a sigh of frustration in response to Herc's statement.

"Well, duh! Little bro," She said with exaggerated indulgence,"Where have you been while I have been talking?"

Moving to survey the damage to the town built around worship at her temple, she continues to speak.

"And daddykins is not happy about it. Not that the affairs of mortals puts him out or worries him but the bickering between Ares and Hades is about to drive him to throw a few lightening bolts."

She stopped and used her hands to illistrate her point.

"Ares, do you know how much work it is to keep the underworld and it's occupants straight without[/i] you screwing up my paperwork by sending someone down that isnt even scheduled to be there? Arent you happy with the fact that you already send me armies full of the dead and dont even let me have time to straighten them out before you start another war?"

"Hades, stop your whining. It's not my fault I can do a better job with my realm than you can with yours. Its not my fault that your such a wimp that Zeus assigned you as a paper pusher."

Aphrodite threw up her hands and then put them on her hips.

"I'm telling you, Herc, the majority of the gods suddenly found something to do that took them out of Olympus for awhile. I came down here to see how things were going for my big festival...only to find this mess!"

Joxer

Joxer walked slowly towards the group. His eyes barely recognized them as he did so. There was a slight limp to him, blood covered nearly all of his clothing, and were on parts of his face. Joxer didn't care about any of it, he simply walked on.
In one swift move he cuddled Xena up in his arms. It was inevitable, it always was. Turning around, Joxer walked back the way he came, still not recognizing anyone around him.
"Wait, Joxer, where are you taking her?" Iolaus ran up to him.
Joxer stopped, a part of him remembered the voice. It did ring familiar, from somewhere before. Joxer pulled the memory down, purposely forgetting whatever spark came to him.
"She's going to be with Gabrielle, they deserve to be with each other."
And, as he finished saying that he walked off, not stopping for anyone or anything. Hunger growled at him, but he did not stop. He had an oath, a mission. Nothing would take that away from him.
Besides, he did not care for death anymore. He welcomed it, but he wouldn't let it take him. Death could consume him once he had finished, but before that.... nothing would get in his way.
Nothing.

Hercules

Hercules drew a breath to respond to Aphrodite, then exhaled slowly... He had caught sight of a figure more grief-stricken than he himself, Joxer. Without a word or look of acknowledgement, Joxer approached Hercules and held out his arms. A feeling of rightness overtook Hercules as he gently laid Xena's still form in Joxer's arms. He then watched the slowly moving figure recede into the distance as Joxer carried Xena's body away...

"Aphrodite, this cannot be tolerated. I've lost friends before, but this is different... Ares has gone too far this time. Sister, I need your help. You can get me and Iolaus into Hell, where we can get things straightened out. Hades will just have to see how wrong this all is. He doesn't like Ares, anyway..."

Aphrodite

Aphrodite stepped back and threw her hands in the air.

"Woah, little bro," She said shaking her head,"Lets think about things for a minute, shall we? Sure I technically could get you into the Underworld but really....why do you want to go. I mean think about it...humidity, boredom, dead people. I know lots better places to party than that."

"Now him," She pointed to Joxer carrying Xena's body away,"and the idiot trying to carry off my offerings," She motioned to Autolycus,"Are different. Right now they would fit right in with everyone down there. You and the 'little studmuffin' need to find a more lively place. Hey, I even know a monster or two you could go fight if you wanted to."

Seeing Herc's look of frustration starting, she slipped her arm through his and pulled him along as she walked.

"Seriously, Herc, like I said, I came down here to get away from the family quarell. Zeus is so mad right now he is bound to take it out on the next kid who steps over the line and, believe me, you havent experienced spankings until the king of the gods hands them out!"

"Move on, Little Bro," She said giving his arm a hug,"trust me...love comes and goes. I should know. It's my job. You will find someone else. Someone without an instinct for self destruction."

Hercules

Hercules understood where Aphrodite was coming from... She acted like a total airhead sometimes, but her heart was true, and she was a LOT wiser than she let most people see. However, she didn't really see why he needed her help yet.

"Aphrodite... sister... I do love her, more than I thought, but that isn't why I need your help now. I've lost loved ones before, without going to Hell to retrieve them. This time is different. Ares caused this, despite his promise not to meddle in their affairs anymore. He is up to something, Aphrodite, something huge." He removed his arm from hers, and turned to face her, taking her hands in his own.

"You know his feelings for Xena, Aphrodite. He would never have allowed her to be killed, or even killed Gabrielle, if he weren't up to something he considered even more important. The only way I see to stop him is to get them out of where he wanted them. Aphrodite, if Ares wants Xena and Gabrielle in Hades' domain, we have to get them out."

Aphrodite

Aphrodite shook her head and let Herc's arm go. "No way, dude, you are not including me in this 'we' thing. Hey, I send Hades a fruit basket twice a year. A personal visit is out!"

She stopped and sighed when she saw the hurt look on his face. "You know, being the Goddess of Love can be such a bummer sometimes. They only thing that gets me by some days is the wardrobe factor."

Rolling her eyes she says,"Okay, okay. Your reasoning sucks, Little Bro and you cant hide why you want to go. I must have rocks in my head but I'll do it."

A mischievious smile came to her lips as she added,"Besides, it will serve Ares right for screwing up my festival. I might as well have a hand in his punishment. I'm still sending Cupid after his followers though. Let him try to send love sick puppies off to kill something!"

Hercules

A million emotions were running rampant in the hero's heart, but he gave little outward sign, saying simply, "Thank you, Aphrodite." He then turned to Iolaus, who had returned from saving villagers. "Iolaus... I can't ask you, or anyone else, to come to Hell with me; it's just too dangerous. But, if you want to come with me, I'd be honored and very grateful."
