Britton Campbell may not serve jail time after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the 2014 death of her then-boyfriend Justin Thomas Quintana.

Campbell, 21, was sentenced Friday in 30th District Court to 5 years supervision with deferred adjudication and a $1,000 fine.

During his statement, Alan Quintana spoke of his son's life and his confusion about the sentencing.

"My son was a heck of a person and always offered to help anyone. ...We don't want any ill for you, but we wanted accountability. ... My son's life is not worth food stamps," the father said, referring to a 5-year jail sentence issued in the court he witnessed earlier in the day for a man convicted of stealing food stamps.

No confusion here, she's a woman, courts are a known breeding ground for female privilege.

An Edmonton woman who tried to hire an undercover cop posing as a hitman to wipe out an entire family was put under community supervision for four years on Tuesday.

My Tai Sparling, 46, was handed a one-year conditional sentence to be served in the community, followed by three years of probation, after pleading guilty to counselling an indictable offence and uttering a death threat.

Provincial Court Judge Mike Allen described the case as “extremely unusual” and said that much of the recorded conversation with the undercover police officer was “bizarre” and some of it “bordered on the absurd.”

Two days after a woman allegedly threw acid on her ‘boyfriend’ in Bijnor district, police are yet to make any arrests in the case. Afreen, 20, was reportedly angry with Suraj, 23, as he was getting engaged to another girl. So she allegedly called him to her house Sunday evening and threw acid on him, police said.

The incident took place at Inampura village in Mandawar police station area of Bijnor district. Suraj, who works in a private firm at Haridwar in Uttarakhand, sustained 50 per cent burns on his face and chest and was admitted in the district hospital. His condition was stable, doctors said. The police recorded his statement on Tuesday.
