If you've been hurt because of marriage inequality, we want to tell your story. If you or someone you know has been hurt, email us at couples@aclu.org The American Civil Liberties Union is looking for couples to tell their stories of harm. Most Americans will reject discrimination when it is pointed out to them. That's why America needs to know the second-class status it gives to same-sex relationships hurts good citizens.
Tell us why you need to get married. Tell us how you are vulnerable or have been hurt because of marriage inequality. If it makes you feel any less valued, it matters. There are hospitals that give gay couples no say in their partner's medical treatment, and even forbid visitation. Some have lost jobs for taking time off to care for or mourn the death of a former partner. There are surviving partners who have lost their children when the adoptive or birth parent died. There is exclusion from health insurance and denial of pensions and burial rights. There are nursing homes that won't let gay seniors live together in the same room. Immigration laws separate many gay couples. The stress of discrimination -- big or small -- takes its toll on every couple.
