okay... so being from kentucky and all, you'd think i had a bit of a twang... but seein as how my parents are from montana donchaknow ... i have no accent at all. so here i am, talking to a dom from my own homestate and suddenly when i hear his voice for the first time... his crediblity as a dominant is somewhat undermined as i am struggling to relearn the dialect.

lol .... has anyone else run across this? where that wonderful southern honey of a voice either works to their favor or just wretchedly undermines them?

I met a Domina whose voice is a dead ringer for Fran Dresher's.

It works for me, but I'm from NYC, all the asskicking ladies in my world sound like that.

I too, have had all trace of an accent privateskooled out of me. And I caught myself calling soda "pop" twice now, since I've moved out here to the great cold Middle.

I'm a sucker for almost any accent. I find them very charming. Out west here, we all sound very flat and dull.

I love Texans... Brits.... Aussies... mmm

My last Dom was from Georgia (originally) and ohhhhh did I love to listen to him!

My Dutch accent makes me sound like a Russian colonel in a cold war movie.

"Breeng tze prizonerrs here immediatzly!!"

But I've been told it has its charm...

Love accents and have been known to melt for a Texan drawl, a Georgian caress, and a Mid West soother. Some Aussie accents I love, more the north and west than purely southern, and find especially heart wrenching when I hear one unexpectedly now I am so far from home. But you know my favourite now don't you.....that sweet mix of Spanish and Dutch my Master whispers sweet nothings in my ear with. http://users.telenet.be/eforum/emoticons4u/love/1.gif

I used to have 2 audios at my bondage.com profile but they don't seem to be working. Darn. Sent one to lit, but they never did anything with it.

Southern Gentlemen purrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Callista is a New Yawka, so southern is sweet on the ears to me.

I'm a sucker for a soft southern drawl. Guess it's a good thing since Snooze has one.

Regional accents fascinate me. Ones that I like listening to?

Southern, in general. I grew up in Mississippi, what can I say, it's what I grew up listening to LOL. My favorite of the southern accents? Hands down, Tidewater Virginia. Something smooth and seductive about it.

HOWEVER....

One doesn't WANT smooth and seductive all the time.

When I want hard....give me a southie accent. That's South Boston, Massachusetts. Ditto for an Irish Channel accent, from New Orleans. Think Dennis Quaid in The Big Easy. He sorta got it right. It's the Bronx meets the Bayou. Interesting as hell to listen to.

Of course...

North Carolina meets New York City is what thrills me. :D

I almost never notice accents.

A deep, deep voice is guaranteed to grab my attention, though.

ooo....

anyone up for some barry white?

he makes me melt ... i downloaded a bunch of his songs and listened to them on one of my projects - i still associate his mellow swooning with that time of my life.

i was born and raised in the south, but having parents from the north, also ended up with no accent (thankfully) i've only had a couple of experiences with accented doms. one was with a swiss guy who spoke french and had the SEXIEST accent ever. i was his at " 'allo" then there was another dom who would accentuate his southern drawl when we were in scene. for some reason, that made it seem so much dirtier, and i loved it all the more.

Oh my yes... I do love Barry...

How are you by the way?

I have to admit there are some accents that are definate turn offs for me. There's one of the English ones (too much Coronation St as a child), and the Australian accent at its worst is horrible!

On the other hand, a good Irish accent is damned sexy...

Strange, isnt it.....

how we all think that we missed the Accent-boat? NOT! If you call Australia on a regular business day, or the Midlands in England, its like a different language, and must be learned all over again.
The flat mid-west "A" as in Panyiac(Pontiac) is different from us in CA , who, of course, have no accent! Ive been told that I drawl, which makes sense, as the further west, the lazier-LOL

Ask a proper Kings Englishman- Im sure that he/she will have an answer for us all. Weve bastardised the language.

Oh, and here in th ecentral part of CA, we use gais(gas) in our cars.We also look forward to tamarra(tomorrow)-

I was almost hurt when a friend informed me I had an accent. Then I remembered how sexy I probably sound ;)

I have a thing for all accents.... I have a good ear... and I do love the sound of an Aussie....

Of course being in Texas and from Oklahoma... I don't have an accent at all... not a one... you would never guess.... ;)

Hmmm... did I blink and miss a change in the English Monarchy?

English has always been a bastard of a language anyway. Hodge-podge of Anglic, Saxon, French, Scandanavian, and a few other odds and ends as well.

I love that you pointed it out. I say tamarra. I also say you guys. But I'll drag out the iiis in some words like ... tired, nine, five ... makes me sound like i wear coveralls and have no shoes. Its so cool when people moved around as kids and you can hear it in their voices - giving them a sort of "placeless" accent

I love the variety of accents here in SC. My favorite comes from right here in the middle of the state. The people here speak with a sweet lilt that brings to mind a certain graciousness. For some reason I associate it with the University, but that may just be the environment I was brought up in (professor's kid). It seems the further upstate you go, the more twang is introduced, though it never sounds too heavy to my ears. The accents towards the coast are rich and varried reflecting the many cultures. It's a good thing.

I'm a bit like bunny, my parents aren't from around here, and so my accent at times is almost unperceivable. It does tend to be more pronounced depending on who I am around.

Skyline, I was just about to start a thread like this! I even asked Anelize to be sure there wasn't one already.

I LOVE accents. I live in Texas, and always get a shiver when I hear the tones of a East Texas cowboy... deep, slow, and very sure of themselves, are those real Texas men.

I know a man who visits here from England, where he is on a professional rugby team... y'all thought football was tough? You should see what this man does for fun... and it is soooo shocking to hear naughty words spoken in that clean, crisp, OH so proper British accent.

A little secret of mine is that I get sopping wet when I hear two men speak...
The first is Sean Connery, and the second is Russell Crowe. I do not care how old Sean is, I swear all he would have to do would be talk to me for me to come. As for Russell... well, do I really need to say anything about that?

For some reason though, I hate Indian accents. I don’t know if it is because I have to talk to people who work in our call center in Bangalore, and they are always screwing something up, or what, but the sound of an Indian accent sets my teeth right on edge.

As for myself, I recently got chewed out for not having a southern accent, though I have lived here all my life. A guy from Chicago I was talking to on the phone insisted that I could not be from Texas because I didn’t have a drawl… Just to prove my provenance, I had to break out a few “sugahs” and talk like Scarlet. I guess it is cause my mom was from California, but I really have to work at it to sound like a southerner.

One of the things I love about my job is listening to the voices; there are just so many variations.

Very interesting
I am a Domme and Im from east London UK. Yes a real cockney. My parent have always drummed in to me to speak well if you expect anyone to take any notice of you or what you are saying. So at times my accent changes completly.
Now been living in Australia for almost seven years, I think this has caused the speed to slow down (or is that just me ageing) but the novelity factor of being an English girl sure gets me a few perks.

Accents I love mmmmm Something Deep, Something Slow.

well i'm a southern gal born and raised, so naturally, i love southern accents. not so much deep south as the smooth accents of my own home region....virginia (south of fredericksburg), to north carolina. i'm really attracted to older southern white gents with stronger, more pronounced accents and southern completely politically incorrect slang. a man who will refer to me as a "colored gal" and think he's being PC...lol. with black men, i love native french-speaking west indian accents (so direct and forceful), and middle african accents. i swoon over arab/middle eastern accents...all so musical. i love a puerto rican accent but a mexican accent completely turns me off for some reason...but really, it's the tone and clarity of a man's voice that has the greatest effect on me. my Master has the most awesome voice...so deep and utterly masculine...with just the slightest hint of a southern accent in the background. He has the kind of authoratative and self-assured voice and manner of speaking that makes one immediately feel like an underling....not condescending in the least, just unquestionably powerful.
