The 5th Annual Literotica Awards - FINAL CALL

I have voted...

if you haven't please go vote!!! My faith in literotica is in jeopardy!!!

jim : )

I voted weeks ago and now I've got a sort of helpless feeling. :(

I hope everyone (who appreciates beautifully written poetry) will vote for Giving Thanks. The Friendship poem in the lead, I'm sure has touched some readers, but compare it to the current runner up: Giving Thanks, then vote for Angeline's poem.

Then vote for Lauren or Angeline for most influential poet. They both offer feedback, encouragement, and do much for the board. I just hang out here and show my ass, basically. lol

Only a few more hours to go. Have you voted on your favourites yet?

The 5th Annual Literotica Reader's Choice Awards

I especially recommend IMMEDIATE visits to these two threads:

Most Influential Poet (I'm rooting for Eve, as you all know)
Non-Erotic Poetry (If Angeline doesn't win, it will be a crime)

Thanks Lauren. :)

If you haven't voted yet for these awards--especially the poetry awards--please consider doing so. There are some wonderful nominees--many of whom are heavy hitters on this board, Cordelia, jthserra, Lauren, and Tristesse--and yes, me too--are nominated for awards this year.

Vote for the poem (or in the case of "most influential," the poet) you believe is best. Please take the time to support poetry and this forum by voting on the basis of the quality of the writing. Yes, I love my nominated poems, but I'd be thrilled to see any good poem win. :)

I've posted a reminder in the General Board - ya never know. :D

thanks Ange. :rose:

lol. I swear i did not know you were writing that. haha! Vote for Eve damnit. EVEEVEEVEEVEEVE, ok?

And ty for the giving thanks support--but Cordelia, jthserra, and Lauren wrote winners too. I'd be thrilled to see any of them win. Really. :)

I agree. They are good also. But I do love your poem and it has a shot at winning. Though, maybe lit is a friendship poetry kind of place, which is... fine. :)

Friendship is a beautiful thing if it's with people and not new user names. :D

You know what I'm disturbed about? I mentioned a few posts up about showing my ass---figuratively, of course. Then a moment later I decided to use a "showing my ass" av, and guess what! I had a folder full of my ass--several already av size. That's disturbing.
I hope my ass anecdote puts this entire award thing into the proper perspective.

my vote goes to the whole lot...

the joy of reading never ceases here.

my best.

Well you have a very influential ass. :D

but I guess my saying I have the most nonerotic ass is not such a good thing. there's a category i'd happily lose, lol.

:rose:

I know someone is gonna bitch that this is all favortism, so let me explain it right up front: The person who gets most influential should not be someone who has not posted a new poem (or story) since june! This is so going to annoy me, I know I should never look at results.

Grrrr.

I'm going back to lurking more.

well, since I also have voted already, all I can do is wish everyone nominated the very best!!

it aint up to me, thank goodness, I could never choose without feeling like a heel :)

I don't want to be cynical here, but I think the award poll is kind of speaking for itself. With total votes just above 100, it's obvious that no big audience have been voting. So then it's all down to the nominees networking skills who will win. It may or may not be the "best" poet and poem that wins, but the final score is redundant.

So really, you're all winners in my book. :)

Congrats to all the winners!

but especially the nominated and winning poets.

Lauren Hynde won three (!) awards, and deserved every one of them. Stylization of Self, her winning poem in the erotic categoryi is (imo) nothing short of brilliant. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to see her poem win. (I'm glad for all your wins Lauren, but that poem is amazing.) ;)

Tristesse's Reflections on a Shaved Ham Sandwich is a wonderfully sly metaphor and is beautifully read. It's about time Tess got the formal recognition she so deserves. Writing such delicate, deliciously naughty erotica takes imagination and insight.

And while I'm happy fpr sweetsubsarah who is a lovely person, I'm saying here for the record that the most influential poet on this site for this poet is (and has been) Wicked Eve. No one has done more for this forum and the poets who frequent it than she. Eve baby, nice ass av, but thanks most for poetry, inspiration, and friendship. You really are the best, and we all know it.

Ok, back to the salt mines--go write poetry everyone. :)

Angeline, do I at least get an award for my ass?

I like sarah! Actually, every name on that list is great.

What bothers me is the Giving Thanks versus Friendship. But I keep reminding myself that most readers at lit will be moved by Hallmark sentimentality. I suppose, there's no shame there. They are in the majority.

Lauren, you kicked some major booty!

Tristesse's Ham was my pick!

Friendship
by eastTNbbw ©

At the heart of all relationships
Is a special connection
Of souls and minds called friendship.

Between two who may be very different
Or two who share much in common.
Their lives become interwoven as time passes.

As they explore new avenues...
Share their hopes, dreams, desires...
The bond gets stronger and the trust greater.

And as they open up to one another,
Become more vulnerable,
A special love develops and grows.

It is a love that has many sides...
Honesty, caring, laughter
It is rewarding and fulfilling.

It is a love that transcends all...
Disagreements, sorrow, despair.
It is a love that gives strength.

For most people, there are friends,
Those whose company is enjoyed....
But very few true friendships.

Giving Thanks
by Angeline ©
Apropos of nothing,
you are beautiful.
I may have mentioned this
3 or 4 hundred times recently,

but there are leaves yet fallen
who need to know this:
they're not trembling because wind
ruffled their parchment fingers.

It's because you walked by
unannounced, unsettling orchards
in an awesome understatement
of light steps.

Is grass aware that the low rumble
of your voice prods boulders to slip
down softly to outcroppings,
where a gorge curves fresh streams,
and shines in the gathering sun?

New shoots break hard ground
just to see you smile in spring,
and daffodils nod, whispering
to each other, him,

just
him,

just you in the simple act
of passing kindness, just you.

So why wouldn't trees know,
or even the nesting birds,
that this is why I sing?

Noting wrong with a little friendship now and then. All the nominees were IMO a batch of well above average poems, and of those I voted for Giving Thanks. Opinions may differ, and Friendship had an obvious following. Kudos to the writer.

On the other hand, there are so many good poems out there. I've read most of the incoming poems on the New poems page since this summer. And niether of my top ten was even nominated. :)

I'll dig up a Liar collection of my favourite '03 Lit poems later tonight, rwview it and post a new thread. Feel free to join in.

Well said! :)

For a liar, you know a few truths don't you? And as for me--thank you to those who pmed or otherwise supported my poem, but trust me I've had a great year, lol. Anyway, I already won something wonderful this year, which is exactly the subject of my poem. I have no complaints.

It's worth noting that before last year, poets didn't have the opportunity to win awards here at Lit, so the fact that what we do is formally recognized at all is quite good.

Anyway writing poetry--for me--is not about prizes but about being compelled to make art from words. Awards are wonderful, but the process is its own reward. Y'all know that, right?

Congratulations to all the winners - and voters.

I voted for Ange's poem because I found it more thoughtful and deep, but as Eve said - there are admirers of both styles.

Thank you for those who voted for my poem and to Ange for her super remarks ^^^ above that made me blush. :rose:

I think this is a terrific idea. Some of the poems I quite liked this year weren't nominated, and after last night's Oscar mishmash I'm in a discussion mood.

I'll get in on that. See to it!

Yes, it's a good idea--we've had favorite Lit poem threads here in the past. I think one of the benefits of the new poems thread and the challenges and other events we try to do here is to help us recognize that there are many wonderful poems and writers here. Your poem Inchoate is one of my favorites of 2003--actually one of the best poems I've ever seen here, imo. :)

Aw shucks. Thank you, ma'am. I voted for you in both categories, as I find your lyrical style quite hypnotic, and that's the poetry I dig the most.

I've submitted my entry to teacher's college, btw...was wondering if you have any advice :p High school kids scare me, but someone's gotta teach em proper grammar, or else they'll end up here. I have one of these, and believe me, they weren't lying when they told us spelling counts. :p

Congrats to the winners and nominees on the Poet side of the house. In my eyes you're all weiners ;)
